Song Lyric Sunday: Singing Pictures.

It’s Sunday and time for Jim Adam’s Song Lyric Sunday. March. Today 31 March 2024 the prompt is โ€“ Songs written for movies suggested by Nancy aka The Sicilian Storyteller.

One of my favourite Films is Highlander and of course my favourite group of all time is Queen so what better than Queen singing the soundtrack to my favourite movie! Please enjoy!

Highlander is a 1986 British-American fantasy actionadventure film directed by Russell Mulcahy from a screenplay by Gregory Widen, Peter Bellwood, and Larry Ferguson. It stars Christopher LambertRoxanne HartClancy Brown, and Sean Connery. The film chronicles the climax of an age-old war between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present-day storylines. It is the first film in the Highlander franchise.

Connor MacLeod (Lambert) is born in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century. After being mortally wounded by the murderous Kurgan (Brown) in battle, he makes a seemingly miraculous recovery and is banished from his village under suspicion of witchcraft. Five years later, MacLeod is found by swordsman Ramรญrez (Connery), who trains him in swordplay and explains that they and others were born immortal, invincible unless beheaded. Immortals wage a secret war, fighting each other until the last few remaining will meet at the Gathering to fight for the Prize. In 1985, the Gathering is finally happening in New York City, and MacLeod must ensure that the Prize is not won by the Kurgan.

Highlander enjoyed little success on its initial theatrical release, grossing more than $12 million worldwide against a production budget of $19 million, while receiving mixed reviews. Nevertheless, it became a cult film and inspired several film sequels and television spin-offs. The rock band Queen recorded several songs for the soundtrack, with “Princes of the Universe” also used for the title sequence in the television series. The tagline, “There can be only one”, has carried on into pop culture.

A Kind of Magic is the twelfth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 2 June 1986 by EMI Records in the UK and by Capitol Records in the US. It is based on the soundtrack to the film Highlander, directed by Russell Mulcahy.

The album enjoys the status of an unofficial soundtrack for the 1986 film Highlander, for which no official soundtrack album was released. The title, “A Kind of Magic”, derived from one of the lines character Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) says to describe his immortality. Six out of nine songs on the album appeared in the film, although in different versions. The three songs that did not appear in Highlander are “Pain Is So Close to Pleasure“, “Friends Will Be Friends” and “One Vision“, which was featured a year earlier in the film Iron Eagle. Conversely, a recording of “Theme from New York, New York” made specifically for a scene in Highlander does not appear on A Kind of Magic, and in fact has never been released in album form to date. Band member Brian May, according to a statement he made on the Greatest Video Hits 2 DVD (2003), had, at least at that point, the intention to work on a proper Highlander soundtrack in the future. In one scene, a snippet of “Hammer to Fall” plays on a radio, a song from the previously released The Works album.

So Happy Easter to you all ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฃ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ‡

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 30, 2024. Plain, Plane.

It’s Saturday again and time LindaGHills SoCs again. Linda said: “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: โ€œplain/plane.โ€ Use one, use โ€™em both, bonus points if you get โ€™em both in your post. Have fun!

Here we go, two songs and two Acrostic Poems one each for plain and plane.

Perhaps if I had
Light wings, then I could fly like
A plane in the sky
Never landing, soaring high
Earth no longer my problem

Pastures green roll on
Leading the eyes to the west
And the horizon
It is a God given right
Never to be fenced right in.

THIS IS PART OF LINDAGHILL’S STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS SATURDAY.

Good Friday .

Today is Good Friday , the day that Jesus was crucified. Below is part of my story “SOFIA, HOW IT BEGAN” . Sofia is a fallen angel who fell to earth during the first battle between good and evil. She lost her wings and is condemned to an eternal existence as she tries to redeem her soul and rightful place under God’s gaze. If you’d like to read more of how her story began you can read here. It’s a rough outline of a work in progress.

The Crucifixion

The sky had gone unexpectedly black and there was thunder and lightning ! The woman and the child stood at the foot of the young man’s cross the child shaking with fear the woman talking, beseeching as if there was someone else there. One of the Roman soldiers spat and said to no one in particular ” Who is that, she has dragged that child here, two steps behind this ‘King of the Jews ‘  since he left Pilots house.”

Sofia was unaware of the weather and her surroundings she was there to support the man, the boy , the babe she had followed every step of his life. Except for his mother she was, of his followers, the closest to him โ€ฆ.. *The pain that had wrecked her body since that day in the market she now was sharing with the man.

She kept reaching out to touch his foot but each time she did Gabriel or one of his brothers stepped forward to stab at her hand. She was bleeding from both hands and her shoulder where the angry angels had struck her. She spoke softly to the man asking for his forgiveness and offering to take on all his pain. The man looked like he had weakened once or twice but each time he went to speak to her Gabriel would lash out at her causing more blood to flow.

Suddenly as if awakening from a dream she knelt down to comfort the child. “Don’t worry Nadia , remember he has taught us all that he is going to his father’s house and we too shall join him there.” The child looked into Sofia’s eyes and asked “why are you in so much pain? I don’t understand I am frightened!” Sobbing Nadia buried her head in Sofia’s cloak “why does he not listen to you, why do the others hurt you” Who” asked   Sofia shocked “what others” Wiping her eyes Nadia shouted angrily. “Those men in white with swords of fire and white wings and faces of stone when they look at you”

“It is a long story I shall tell you all” replied Sofia but not here.

It was early afternoon in reality but it was still as black as night up on the hill at  Calgary. Sofia and Nadia still held their vigil the child crying for the man she had come to love who she and Sofia had shadowed faithfully over the last two years since her mother had died and she had found Sofia. Sofia her body, shuddering in pain, cried too for the world.

Later

A group of women approached, among them Mary the man’s mother and Mary Magdeline a well known whore who had given up all her hard earned wealth and her work to follow the man. He had that effect on lots of people and not only women, just look at his close twelve known as the Apostles.  All of them fishermen from Galilee they had just up and left all to follow the young man.

As the group arrived they embraced Sofia and Nadia.  Mary thanked them for staying with her son. “He is still suffering ” said Sofia . As she spoke Mary ( the mother) looking at her had a strange feeling of recollection just out of reach. Then as Sofia bent forward to kiss her on the cheek recollections flooded into her head. “Sofia” she cried “it’s you, where have you been” Taking her hand Sofia replied “I have been either at your side or one step behind you, I never left , you just did not see me. “The angels moved to separate the two women but the man on the cross silently stopped them.

Sofia told them that she must take the child away to rest , Mary held on to her hand  “please do not leave me again Sofia I need you” Sofia saw Gabriel over Mary’s shoulder his look was like stone but Sofia took her gaze from him and looking into Mary’s face she promised she would stay this time and she meant it!

Leading Nadia away Sofia made her way down the hill, as she passed the lead Centurion he whispered in his ear “Give the order to stab the “King of the Jews in the side”. As they climbed down to the road Sofia heard the voice of the centurion barking out the order……

I don’t know why but my mind has taken me back to hight of the pandemic when my mother in law had a stroke, was taken into hospital where she caught covid and after a brief spell of recovery she died not long after her 100th birthday.

It was a hard time … No visitors were allowed on covid wards in fact no one apart from staff and the sick were allowed in hospitals. But as it was her 100th birthday hubby was asked if he would like to join the ward staff as they celebrated her birthday. He went and they kitted him out in PPE and he had an hour or so helping her celebrate. We all hoped she would get through the covid but sadly she did not . She made it to 100, she was determined to , she had a lovely birthday party and thankfully one of her children was with her.๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ Mother in laws birthday was in May she died the next month.

I hope we never have to face another Pandemic.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US.

Bombs fell they prayed, more was needed.

Rips apart the tranquil dawn
Gaia has risen

As sleep evades me
I watch the hazy moon light

M.M.M.M. Misheard Lyrics ๐Ÿซข.

Mondayโ€™s Music Moves Me is sponsored byย Marie,ย Cathy,ย Alana, andย Stacy, so be sure and visit them, where you can also find the Linky for the other participants.

The theme this is week, submitted by Alana at Ramblinโ€™ with AM isย Misheard Song Lyrics.ย  I absolutely am on of the biggest offenders at this ! My favourite is Supper Trouper by ABBA. After the intro the first line is. “I was sick and tired of everything when I called you last night from Tesco” If you don’t know Tesco is a supermarket chain. Why are ABBA at Tesco’s…. Well they are not the line actually is “I was sick and tired of everything when I called you last night from Glasgow’ But ever since I hear this track for the first time all I ever hear is Tesco.

Now let’s hand you over to the those with quick minds and good ears.I hope you enjoyed these as much as I do and please excuse any adverts and or repeats and I hope you don’t get offended by and rudness.
