MMMM let’s go green, let’s go nuts!

Cathy from Curious as a Cathy said “Let’s give Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle a round of applaus. 👏 She volunteered to be this month’s guest co-hostess.  The final theme for February, Mary is giving you two choices.  The first one is to spell pistachio using Song Titles (or Artists/Bands if you prefer) since it’s National Pistachio Day or  go with number two to build your picks with “leap” or  “jump” song titles since it’s a leap year.

Well I am going for the first option and spell Pistachio with songs from my favourite singer songwriter Imogen Heap. Old and new tunes here and all interesting I think.

Pistachio

P, Lonely Petunia

Imogen recorded a rendition of the song “I’m a Lonely Little Petunia (In an Onion Patch)” for the seventh episode of the fourth season of the HBO drama series Six Feet Under, which premiered in August 2004. Her rendition later appeared as the album closer for the 2005 soundtrack album Six Feet Under.

I, I am God .

I’m God” is an instrumental track by American producer Clams Casino and British singer Imogen Heap, released officially on April 24, 2020, and appearing on Clams Casino’s album Instrumental Relics. Clams Casino, real name Michael Volpe, created “I’m God” by sampling Heap’s song “Just for Now” (2005), after learning of her through a friend. Volpe then sent the track to American rapper Lil B, who rapped over it. The final result appeared on Lil B’s debut album, 6 Kiss (2009). Volpe released the instrumental unofficially in 2011 and, following years of unsuccessful attempts to clear the sample usage, it received an official release nine years later. “I’m God” is considered an important instrumental of the cloud rap subgenre and received a cult following on the Internet.

S, Speeding Cars

Love this song so much , it’s message of no one is perfect and we’ll get there was a boon while I was learning to walk again after breaking my back .

T, First Train Home.

“Imogen Heap revealed a story behind the creation of the song in a few interviews. She claimed:

“I was trying to project manage my studio, and the house and moving in never having done anything like that before is EXTREMELY stressful. […] I was so stressed out. So my friend rang me up and said “I never see you anymore, why don’t you come down, you’re not making the record yet – come down”. So I went down to Brighton and all the way on the train I was making phone calls, and I wanted to just be back home working on it. […] So we went out this festival – it was good – but being around music made me even more jittery like I should be doing more and getting home. I didn’t really have a good night really. I was trying so hard to be into the night and they were all nice people and everything but I just wasn’t into it, but I just couldn’t escape and I couldn’t get home and it was too late and lived three hours away. So I was stuck […] Literally, you just want to scream and slap everyone around (not really slapping everyone around – joking), but you know you just don’t want to be there. Panic attack set in. Cold sweats. And I just wanted to get on the first train home basically. I did eventually – got the first train home, stayed up all night and wrote the song on the piano at home really quickly. What’s lovely about it is that I recorded the song in the studio which is directly underneath the dining room where the piano is. And then yesterday [says very excitedly], I filmed the video for it which is where I wrote the song!” Information from Wiki

A, Aeroplane

Aeroplane” is a rerecorded version of 1998 b-side “Airplane“. Often labeled as “Airplane (Frou Frou mix)”. The song was reworked by Frou Frou for Details but it didn’t make the cut and ended up on the 2002 Japanese reissue of iMegaphone.

C, Come here Boy

Imogen recorded Come here boy in 1987 on her Album Imegaphone ( which is an anagram of her name.)

H, Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek” is a song recorded by English singer Imogen Heap and released on 19 May 2005 as the first single from her second album Speak for Yourself. Written and produced by Heap, the a cappella folktronica ballad heavily uses the harmonizer and describes painfully losing someone due to a breakup or a divorce.

I, It’s good to be in love.

Imogen and Guy Sigwood FrubFru On 4 June 2002, they released Details, their first and only album to date. The album spawned the singles “Breathe In”, “It’s Good to Be in Love” and “Must Be …

O, Oh Me!, Oh My!

I Megaphone is the debut studio album by British singer-songwriter Imogen Heap. It was released on 16 June 1998 by Almo Sounds. The album was primarily written by Heap, starting when she was 15 years old, with co-writing from Guy Sigsworth and Fil Eisler. It was first produced and recorded solely by Heap and Dave Stewart, and it was subsequently re-recorded alongside producers David Kahne and Guy Sigsworth. It is an alternative rock record with largely confessional lyricism, addressing themes ranging from adolescent drug use and revenge to perseverance and religion. The album’s title is an anagram of “Imogen Heap”.

In 2007  we took a  trip to  Crete  and  while  there  we visited  Spinalonga  . Spinalonga  was a Leper  colony  between  1903 to 1957 and  before  that  it  had  a  colourful  history!Read  about  it  here

a daunting entrance

Above  the  door  by  which  the  lepers  entered … one  way.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A beautiful and  tantalising view of  the  sea  and  the  mainland  so  near yet  so far.   OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A beautiful sky , and a beautiful  day  the  sky  framed  the  little house with  the  sturdy  brown door! Was it a house, a school or a church I don’t remember .

a blocked up window above the arch..I wonder why?

Another  dark passage.

you can't beat that

The  view  from  the double doors of  our  room.

look at the colours

The  doors  of  the  houses  below our hotel…. blue  doors, blue  sky  blue sea.

ODE TO SPINALONGA

Abandon hope all those who enter here
This is a strange place to land
You can see the land you’re forbidden it’s so near.
Separated by sea and sand.
The shame and sadness of this disease
Back then made hearts to freeze.

Through fear and ignorance
Imprisoned within sight of home
Caught up and trapped by happenstance
They built a life and coped alone.

MMMM Time to say Goodbye.

It’s Monday Morning and time for MMMM Cathy said ”Let’s give Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle a round of applauds. 👏 She volunteered to be this month’s guest co-hostess.  This week’s theme is love or breakup songs!  Mary gave us a choice for this week’s theme and while no one likes break ups, especially the romantic type, you might find it interesting to know in 2015, I did a Breaking Up is Hard to Do mini series, part IIIIIIIV which was fun to do. “

So I have chosen fourteen songs all with the twist of break up…some more quirky than others!!

Lets start with two from Sam Ryder, one that really pulls at the heartstrings with all the feelings we have felt during a break up. The title is “All the way over you yet. ”

.

Followed by “Living without you” a very up beat , get on with life song. I love the use of distortion on Sam’s massive voice as he sings a about living with a recent break up!

.

This song by Gotye is an absolutely brilliant break up song showing the pain from both sides. Being stonewalled, having possessions argued over …it says it all.

.

A very acrimonious and vicious break up now great song and fabulous video from James Blunt…Love Under Pressure

.

Miley Cryus and Wrecking Ball , a great song about pushing a relationship too hard and breaking it in the process then living with the fall out.

.

Jar of heart by Christina Perri is a really good song about breaking up from an abusive relationship …..such a hard thing to do !

.

Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide is about the break up of long term relationship when people are getting older and all the deep thinking and pain that brings .

.

Another song from Fleetwood Mac Go your own way. I believe this one is personal to Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

.

Fix you by Coldplay Not so much a break up song as a relationship broken by death … But it hopeful.

.

This beautiful track is sung by Maitre Gims and Sia called I forgive you. The song is about a relationship gone so bad … That it’s a lost cause but that said there is still forgiveness left.

.

Dance Alone by Kylie and Sia such a great break up song …if you keep dancing it’s not happening…eyes closed fingers in ears LaLaLaLa

.

Run time by Imogen Heap is another brilliant break up song. The moment you realise that the relationship has run it’s life, it’s sell by date is past. You need to end it now before you end up hating eachother .

.

As a break up song Forget you by Celo Green is such a great song….it’s supposed to be about the music but I will always see it as the boy who is not quite the look, face does not fit. Has a crush on a girl …long story short she keeps putting him down …then he became famous… suddenly she’s interested.. guess what he’s not 😍😍

.

Dido and White Flag…. There comes a time in every relationship when you have to accept it’s over…. You have to move on. It’s hard if one of you can accept! Especially after a nasty untidy breakup.

Happy Monday Boogie On!

Song Lyric Sunday: Uniform Inspection.

Good afternoon all hope you’re well. This weekend for Song Lyric Sunday our host with most has asked that we choose a song from a band that wore uniforms. Now Jim has given us a long and comprehensive introduction of what he’d like us to feature you can read his thoughts here.
Well my first thought was TDC5 otherwise known as The Dave Clark Five. These guys are on Jim’s list but I didn’t know that when I wrote my post. Now they were a very clean cut and for their day suave group of handsome young men who my caught my eleven year old eye and ear! I remember well one school holiday going with friend to see their film catch us if you can, I remember I was coming up to thirteen, two years after becoming a fan.

.

Here they come again, mhm
Catch us if you can, mhm
Time to get a move on, mhm
We will yell with all of our might

Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can

Now we gotta run, mhm
No more time for fun, mhm
When we’re getting angry, mhm
We will yell with all of our might

Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Woah

Here they come again, mhm
Catch us if you can, mhm
Time to get a move on, mhm
We will yell with all of our might

Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can
Catch us if you can

Now their uniform was very smart. A black and white combination of jacket and trousers. Either black jacket with white trousers or visa versa, or same mix of shirt and trousers and on occasion black and white striped jacket and white trousers…..very dashing!

Since you left me and you said goodbye
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
All I do is sit and cry
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
You went away and left me misery
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
And that’s the way it’ll always be
You said you loved me and you’d always be mine
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
We’d be together ’til the end of time
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
Now you say it was just a game
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
But all you’re doin’ is leavin’ me pain
Time goes by and goes so slow (oh, yeah)
It just doesn’t seem true
Only just a few days ago
You said you’d love me, never make me blue
Now you’ve gone and I’m all alone
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
You’re still way up there on your throne
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
Nothin’ seems to ever go right
(I’m in pieces, bits and pieces)
‘Cause night is day and day is night

The Dave Clark Five, also known as the DC5, were an English rock and roll band formed in 1958 in Tottenham, London. Drummer Dave Clark served as the group’s leader, producer and co-songwriter. In January 1964, they had their first UK top-ten single, “Glad All Over”, which knocked the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” off the top of the UK Singles Chart. It peaked at No. 6 in the United States in April 1964. Although this was their only UK No. 1, they topped the US chart in December 1965, with their cover of Bobby Day’s “Over and Over”. Their other UK top-ten hits include “Bits and Pieces”, “Can’t You See That She’s Mine”, “Catch Us If You Can”, “Everybody Knows”, “The Red Balloon”, “Good Old Rock ‘n’ Roll”, and a version of Chet Powers’ “Get Together” (retitled as “Everybody Get Together”).
They were the second group of the British Invasion to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show in the United States (for two weeks in March 1964 following the Beatles’ three weeks the previous month). They would ultimately have 18 appearances on the show. The DC5 were one of the most commercially successful acts of the British Invasion, releasing seventeen top-40 hits in the US between 1964 and 1967, including several that did not chart as highly in the UK such as “Because”, “Do You Love Me”, “Everybody Knows (I Still Love You)”, “Any Way You Want It”, “I Like It Like That”, “Try Too Hard” and “You Got What It Takes”. In 1965, the group starred in a feature film vehicle, Catch Us If You Can, directed by John Boorman. The group disbanded in early 1970, though Clark and a few former members continued as Dave Clark & Friends until 1973. In 2008, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE 💜💜💜

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Feb. 10, 2024.Light,Dark and Heavy.

It’s late Saturday and finally I have a chance to sit down and open LindaGHill’s prompt email. Here is what she said. “It’s Friday! And that means I’m here with your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. I’m quite proud of myself so far with keeping up on the blogging. I hope it will last. Here’s this week’s prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “heavy/light/dark.” Use “light” and/or its opposites. Bonus points if you use all three. Enjoy!

Well I have written two poems and I got all three words in both poems so do I get extra points? I called both poems:

Polar Opposites

Polar opposites were they
He the night she the day
He, a fallen angel, dark
She, so light without a mark
They met, the universe exploded.
Ignored the odds against them heavy loaded.
They were never meant to be
Yet could their love set them free. ©willowdot21

Lost souls shattered hearts.
She came from the light
He from the dark depths of
night
Love and beauty grew in her wake
Sadness and pain followed him,his smile fake
They fell in love
The Angels wept from above
The hordes of hell rebelled
So star crossed were these lovers
Hope was lost by their sisters and brothers.
Some railed against the impossibility
Others prayed for love and pity.
God smiled “They are not ready”
Satan found his heart heavy.
Could she save his soul
Would he devour her whole.
So star crossed were these lovers
Their love was cursed from the start
Light souls dark heavy heart.

For visually challenged writers, the monochrome image shows an empty corridor with several doors opening in a line, one after the other. These are the type of doors you see in any stately, home, mansion or castle. What secret do they hold!

Above one of the magnificent doors I pass on my way into town.

Below a story about doors.

The early morning light crept along the corridor of the sleeping house. Trying hard not cause any disturbance, unfortunately not trying hard enough. Missing it’s footing the light stubbed it’s toe on the doorframe. Letting out a loud screech that would have woken the dead had it not been for the loud crash of the dawn breaking over the horizon.

Tiny jumping dust motes and mites bounced up and down rejoicing in another day. The light carried on along the corridor and through the doors entering each room gingerly, not wanting anymore injuries.

The dark was cleaning it’s teeth in the bathroom as the light crept across the threshold. They nodded politely to each other as dark clocked out and light clocked in.

Just another day light thought to itself as it closed the door and limped on.
