Well this is not easy today because I am distracted. Also it does not seem long since I posted my most favourite movie song , Can’t take it in , by Imogen  Heap, from The Chronicles of Narnia.

Well as I have written about that one recently I shall put my thinking cap, walk the dog and come back to this post.

Right  I am  back  from  my  walk  and  I  have  come up  with  a  song  and  film  that I  fell in  love  with in  2007   a beautiful  story.   A modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story.

The  plot  of  the  film is : An (unnamed) Guy is a Dublin guitarist/singer-songwriter who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners in his Dad’s Hoover repair shop by day, and singing and playing for money on the Dublin streets by night. An (unnamed) Girl is a Czech who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. Guy meets Girl, and they get to know each other as the Girl helps the Guy to put together a demo disc that he can take to London in hope of landing a music contract. During the same several day period, the Guy and the Girl work through their past loves, and reveal their budding love for one another, through their songs. GLEN HANSARD LYRICS

“Falling Slowly”
(with Markéta Irglová)

I don’t know you
But I want you
All the more for that

Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can’t react

And games that never amount
To more than they’re meant
Will play themselves out

[Chorus:]
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We’ve still got time
Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice
You’ll make it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can’t go back

Moods that take me and erase me
And I’m painted black

You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It’s time that you won

[Chorus:]
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We’ve still got time
Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice
You’ve made it now

Falling slowly sing your melody
I’ll sing it loud

I sat  and  watched  this  film  and  cried  and  cried  it is  so beautiful  and  the  songs in it are just  so beautiful  as  as is  the  story.  The  songs  are  sung  by  the  actors  in  the  film  Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová.     Both  talented  singers.

The  film  is  set in Dublin, the  city  where  my  father  was  born  and  though I  am a Londoner  it  always  feels like  home  when I visit. To see  this  beautiful  story  set in  a place  I  know  and  recognize makes it  all  the  more  special!   I cannot  recommend  this  film enough!

Another song  from  the  film!

I have had to do this early as we have visited tomorrow (Saturday)

Thursday Thoughts.

Can I rise above the norm
Fly into the breaking dawn.

Can I cut the ties of life

Escape today, the toil and strife.
Blue sky,take me please

Let me float above the trees.

I could fly among the birds

Sing with them, tweet them words.
It would be all my dreams come true

To escape up there into the blue.

No more troubles of the everyday

Watch me fly up, up and away.

One Liner Wednesday: War.

We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

SONG LYRIC SUNDAY:PROTEST SONGS

This  week  Helen Espinosa  at  This  thing  called Life  one  word  at  a time , has  set  us  the  challenge  of  picking  a  protest song  for  Song lyric  Sunday. Helen’s  words  were : “The power of lyrics and how they speak of things that are usually left unsaid leads me to the theme for this week.  There are some crazy things happening in the world right now, and I feel like I’m constantly bombarded with either terrible news or really awful politics.  I feel like speaking out in the form of music.  It can either be a protest song or a song about surviving this crazy thing called life.”

I think  that  this  is  a fabulous  theme for us . Now  I  am going  to  be  naughty  and  pick  two. Both  songs  are  very  strong  in  their  condemnation  of the  state of  the  world  and  war in general.

The  first one  is  Everybodys   Gone  to War , By Narina Pallot  The  track  was on  her 2005 album  Fires  which  is one of  my  favourite  albums, you know  how  some  albums  you just love  every  track . Well this  track  spoke  to me  , don’t  be  fooled  by  the video   just  read  the  words.

NERINA PALLOT LYRICS

“Everybody’s Gone To War”

I’ve got a friend, he’s a pure-bred killing machine
He says he’s waited his whole damn life for this
I knew him well when he was seventeen
Now he’s a man he’ll be dead by ChristmasAnd so, everybody’s going to war
But we don’t know what we’re fighting for
Don’t tell me it’s a worthy cause
No cause could be so worthyIf love is a drug, I guess we’re all sober
If hope is a song, I guess it’s all over
How to have faith, when faith is a crime?
I don’t want to die
I’f God’s on our side, then God is a joker
Asleep on the job, his children fall over
Running out through the door and straight to the sky
I don’t want to die

For every man who wants to rule the world
There’ll be a man who just wants to be free
What do we learn but what should not be learned?
Too late to find a cure for this disease

And so, everybody’s going to war
But we don’t know what we’re fighting for
Don’t tell me it’s a worthy cause
No cause could be so worthy

If love is a drug, I guess we’re all sober
If hope is a song, I guess it’s all over
How to have faith, when faith is a crime?
I don’t want to die
If God’s on our side, then God is a joker
Asleep on the job, his children fall over
Running out through the door and straight to the sky
I don’t want to die
I-I-I-I don’t want to die
I-I don’t want to die

The  second  track  I  have  picked  is  from Black Sabbath and is  called  War  Pigs. It  a  brilliant  protest song,  dare  I  say Anthem. The  words  are  enough  to  stir  even those  with their  heads stuck six  foot in  the  ground ! Read  the  lyrics  I  dare  you  to ignore  them. The  video is  excellent  too  so  please  watch  and hear  the  strength of  the  lyrics.

BLACK SABBATH LYRICS

“War Pigs”

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerer of death’s construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds…Oh lord yeah!Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poorTime will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait `till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more war pigs have the power,
hand of god has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, god is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercy for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings…Oh lord, yeah!

Thanks to shy301, Amanda, kate, elizabeth, Jason Jarnet for correcting these lyrics.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday: Second and Press the Button

The  lovely  and  clever  Linda G Hill  at  Life in  Progress said  : Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “second.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun.

Haiku   Second

Fly  high  like  the wind

Make  this  your  life  choice  and  run

Come  first  not  second.

Press  the  Button  : Part  12

The  second  I  pushed  that  button  I realized that  I  had  started  something  I had  to  finish  and  I  really  believed  that I  could . The  screen  went  dead  and  this  time  it  stayed  that  way.

John  motioned  to  me  for  the  second  time  that  day  but  this  time  he was  beckoning  me  to  follow  him. I removed  the  glasses  and  followed  him. I  asked  him  where  the  children,  who had  brought  me  here,  had  gone?  He  just  smiled  and  told  me  not  to  worry  they  were  safe.

We  walked  back into  the  hanger  and  went  up  the  second  staircase to  the  second  floor and  entered  the  second  office. There  were  computers,  books  and  maps  all over  the  place. At  the  end of  the  room  sat  woman  her  face  hidden  by  a  computer  monitor ! “Okay ” smile  John , “Traya  meet Traya ” he  turned  on his  heel  and  was gone out  the  door . Leaving  me  me  with the  woman . She  moved  away  from  the screen  and  for  the  second  time  today  I  came  face  to face  with  myself.

“Hi” smiled   my older self  smiled, “Shall  we  get  to  work , are  you  ready  Traya” I nodded and  I honestly  felt  safe  in  my  older  self’s presence . “Right  we  need  to  get  to  work  then, do  you  trust  me”she  asked. Yes  I  did  trust  her  with  my  life  but  I  wanted  some  answers  and  given  the  rate  that  things  were  moving  at  I wanted  them  immediately! “Traya  can  you  please  push  the  button  for  me , that  one on the  wall” The  older Traya  asked  me.  I  took  a deep  and  said  ” Just  a  second,  I  want  some  answers  first!
