Bull-rushes! Whee! When I was about 8 or 9 I remember seeing bull-rushes dipped in gas and lit to make torches. I decided to try it one day but our lawn-mower gas can had a grid in the spout so nothing could be inserted. So, I set the bull-rushes on the lawn and poured gas over them. When I picked up one to light it, I had gas on the stem and I had t drop it when it burst into flame. This, of course, set the lawn on fire as I had been pouring gas over the rushes. I ran and the fire burnt out by itself. I was lucky.
Every time I see bull-rushes I recall that story. 😀

Oh! That could of been a disaster Paul. You were lucky to escape unharmed. I hope the young Paul learned a valuable lesson.

I sure did – it scared the daylights our of me. I have been careful with gas ever since.

Come to think of it, my last job was as the Safety Director for a tanker company hauling gas. Ha! Funny how that came back around.
