Autumn Thoughts .

photo from

All the leaves are dancing swirling down
Undulating in the breeze round and round.
Tumbling rumblings underground
Urgently creatures searching for their stores can they be found.
Mists in the mornings, chilly nights soon be fireworks after Halloween frights!
New seasons Harvest Moon, witches and pumpkin men will be here soon

The sun’s heat is waning and the nights are drawing in
Chilly winds are swooping round corners and making your clothes feel thin.
Early morning porridge warms you from within.
Summer sadly has taken her leave, leaving us the dark mornings to grieve.
Ready for the harvest, ready for shorter days.
Time to get out your winter coats and your furry boots
The long and lazy days of summer have vanished in a haze.

🎃🎃🎃🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍂

Raven , Raven where’s
The cat? Is she out with bat?
Mistress I don’t know .
Get out and find them go go!
I need them for the cauldron

Hurry, hurry there’s no time
The hour fast approaches
The bubbling mixture
Needs something extra special
Go fast and find your sisters

Sisters, sisters please
She’s on the warpath right now
What are we to do
She is cooking up potions
And calls us all to the pot

Don’t all stand out there
Come in I command you all
The table is set
I have made a special brew
For us to share , yes you trio too!

So they all sit down to eat.
Can they trust this Halloween treat
Sup up it’s no trick
So they all the potion sip
Naughty witchy cackles loud!

You three make me smile
Would I put you in the pot?
My familiars?
It’s just my way to shout at you
I’d not hurt my friends so true.

#TankaTuesday Poetry Challenge No. 36, Tan-Ku, 10/28/25

This week Melissa from Mom With a Blog is here here to bring you your Tanka Tuesday poetry prompt this week.

She said ” I was recently introduced to a new poetry form called Tan-Ku. It’s pretty simple: Tan-Ku is written by two people, alternating tanka and haiku. A “set” consists of one tanka followed by one haiku. A “sequence” is a series of two or more Tan-Ku sets. Today we will be writing (you guessed it) a Tan-Ku sequence. You may choose to use one of the series I have started (below), and I will be your writing partner. Or, you can get together with a friend virtually or otherwise to create a sequence together. Tan-Ku sets and sequences have a title. Give yours one!”

I chose to work with Melissa… In a spooky vampire tale.

Vampire Lust ❤️‍🔥

willow’s TANKA:

Wet night dark too soon
Heels echo along the road
Shadows dance with glee
Leaves, russet and gold swirling
Street lamps highlight sparkly rain

ML’s Haiku
blustery evening
leaves roll across the street
crinkling underfoot

willow’s TANKA:
Shivers down the spine
Fear and foreboding blossom
Front door seems so far.
Footsteps sound, not far behind
Heart beat quickens, where’s her key.

ML’s Haiku
beneath starry skies
darkness punctuated by
glowing candelabras

willow’s TANKA:
A hand touches her
Too familiar for fear
The world spins she surrenders
He sighs, so full of blood lust

ML’s Haiku
gay laughter fades
a glowing moon rises
…whispering fog

Song Lyric Sunday. Road Rage.

This week Jim Adams, our host for Song Lyric Sunday has suggested we find music for driving to. Here is what he had to say about the subject.

Being in cars or trucks while listening to music goes hand in hand.  For long drives or when you get stuck in stressful traffic, music can significantly alter a person’s mood by releasing dopamine in the brain, creating a sense of well-being and this welcomed distraction can be just what the doctor ordered to improve the driving experience.  Being inside of a vehicle provides a private, enclosed environment where a driver and the other passengers can listen to their favorite music at a reasonable volume without bothering others.  This allows for a personal, immersive listening experience, whether it’s for singing along, deep listening, or simply as a soundtrack to the journey.  Music can prevent fatigue and boredom, particularly during monotonous or long stretches of driving.  There is evidence which indicates that listening to music while in a vehicle will increase your ability to stay focused on driving for longer periods of time, and with fewer errors.”

Due to all sorts of reasons I have not been about much … So I am just going to showcase one song but boy it’s a great song with an interesting backstory.

Gary Numan – Cars

British artist Gary Numan feels safest in his car in this new wave classic. Deceivingly simple yet utterly catchy, “Cars” (off The Pleasure Principle) hit No.1 in the UK and Canada and was a Top Ten hit in the US.

Cars” is the first solo single by the English musician Gary Numan. It was released on 24 August 1979 and is from his debut studio album The Pleasure Principle. The song reached the top of the charts in several countries, and is Numan’s most successful single.

“Cars” is based on two musical sections: a verse/instrumental break and a bridge. The recording features a conventional rock rhythm section of bass guitar and drums, but the rest of the instruments used are analogue synthesisers, principally the Minimoog (augmenting the song’s recognisable bass riff) and the Polymoog keyboard, providing austere synthetic string lines over the bass riff. The bridge section also includes a tambourine part. Numan’s vocal part is sung in an almost expressionless, synthesized style. There is no “chorus” as such, and no more lyrics after the 1:30 point.

According to Numan, the song’s lyrics were inspired by an incident of road rage:

I was in traffic in London once and had a problem with some people in front. They tried to beat me up and get me out of the car. I locked the doors and eventually drove up on the pavement and got away from them. It’s kind of to do with that. It explains how you can feel safe inside a car in the modern world…When you’re in it, your whole mentality is different…It’s like your own little personal empire with four wheels on it.

Numan later said that the entire song was written in 30 minutes, originating in the bass riff, which was the first thing he played on a newly bought bass guitar. All I formation from Wiki.

Lyrics

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It’s the only way to live in cars

Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days in cars

Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me, please
If I open my door in cars?

Here in my car
I know I’ve started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right in cars

TankaTuesday Poetry Challenge No. 35, Absorb/Repel, 10/21/25

This week for Tanka Tuesday poets! It’s Yvette‘s turn again to be our host. Here is what she said about her prompt. “So, for this week, I thought we would play around with the words absorb and repel. You can use one word or both. You can choose to write about energy, emotion, or nature. Or let your mind be as creative as it wants to be! Select any syllabic form that you want to use. You can see a great list hereFor an extra challenge, try to add a kigo word connected to your current season.

I decided to write a Double Ennead . Which comprises of five lines with a syllable count of 6/5/11/6/5, (33 SYLLABLES per stanza) 3 STANZAS EACH = 99 SYLLABLES, NO MORE, NO LESS! You can add rhyme schemes or not. Title this form.

Soul, black as my hat.

Absorb the autumn rain 🍁🍂
Breath the aroma
The dying down of life, turning into mulch .
The Raven sallies forth
He’s black as my hat.

Repel creeping sadness
Corvid’s black eyes spark
Cold the wind that bends me double, shivering.
Absorb the witch’s lore
Raven cries nevermore.🍁🍂

The hard earth is sodden
Life, though, absorbs hope
Repel dark thoughts remember not all is lost.
Raven soars above fields
Dorment for winter.🍁🍂

TankaTuesday Poetry Challenge No. 34, Hunter’s Moon & the Aging of the Year, 10/14/25

Here is another Sijo for this week’s prompt. Which are the October Hunter’s Moon or the aging of the year.

Darkening Autumn 🍁🍁

To wallow in darkness, hiding in the shadows, unseen.
As days grow short and night takes sway. My mind likes to follow suit.
Thoughts swirl in bonfire smoke as my old soul flies back to childhood.
