#TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge: #Poet’s choice.

On the first of the month, you can now experiment with freestyle poetry, as long as you also add a syllabic form to your poem.

Here is  an old  Halloween  poem  that I wrote in  2013. I bring it out every year, it’s one of my favourites, so I make no apologies. It is a rhyming couplet . AA,BB,CC,DD,GG,HH,II,JJ,

~~~~~~~~~~
I know that it is  raining,  I can see that it wet
But you are my familiar,  and not a blooming pet!
I have asked you nicely I have even said please
Now go and get me food or I shall infest you with flees.
Excuse me, Lady  Mistress, this does not seem quite right
Just where in my contract does it say I have to work for you at night!
You have run me ragged every minute of today.
I am tired and my feathers wet, here in the warm I need to stay.
Pardon me! my fine feathered friend, pardon me my beauty.
I am not requesting, I am demanding that you do your duty.
I am the one in charge, not you, I’m the tortured Vampire.
You do as I bid, what are you waiting for. Wet weather attire?
Well Mistress that would not go amiss for I am not a duck,
And if I get lost  you will miss out and that would be bad luck.
Be Gone! Get out! and find me fresh blood
And if you play your cards right I’ll dip you in the stream on your return to remove the mud.girl_gloom_rain_raven_3512_1280x1024
Raven: Tanka
My blogging friend Jane Dougherty from Jane Dougherty Writes has been writing Haiku about Ravens recently. Today her Raven Haiku inspired me to write a Tanka about a Raven. Thanks Jane.
Raven not Craven.
Feathers dark, bright eyed
Soar betwixt heaven and earth
Tiny glint you spied.
Dive fast you are not craven
Hero, mine Spartan Raven.
Cold  the  winter, bare  the  trees
The  berries are  all long  gone
Harsh  the  wind , the  water set  to  freeze
Still, hush all around  not even a  bird’s  song.
Expectant  they  wait, as  they  always do
For  the  flap  of  wings  that brings  the  news
Frost in  the  morning  and  the  evening  too
Tempers  fray and  sort  is the  fuse.
Finally  his  wings  are  heard approaching
Excitement  grows  for  the  news  he  brings
He has  seen  the  change  encroaching
The dark  has reached  it’s  length,  he  sings
The messenger,  the  lone  black  Raven
Tells them  they  have  reached  the  Soltice
Rejoice and  make  your praise  to  heaven
The Light will now  return, we can prepare  the  feast.
Tell me Raven  dear
Exactly what we have here.
Witchy my sweet  you have  a note book 7
From a Galaxy  afar, it  will light up  your heaven.
But Raven my  sweet
It is no longer complete.
Witchy  you must sent it back
Of safety it has a lack.
Silly Raven don’t  be daft
I am a Witch I know  my  craft.
Send it  back  to Samsung, Witchy
Quickly please  I am getting  twitchy!
The Crow Angel
She fell to earth without warning
it was early and the sky was full of the colours of a new day’s dawning.
She was freezing and had never felt so alone
without her kin and so far from home.
Never had she felt this cold even though she was three millennia old.
She was weeping silently when she was approached by some crows, one, two ,three.
Gentle sister why do you weep why are you here
your eyes are wide and you smell of fear.
Brothers and sisters I have been exiled from heaven
and I do not know if I will ever be forgiven.
Sister, asked the largest crow what is your crime, that from heaven you have been told to go.
With downcast eyes she replied I fell in love with one , to me forbidden then to conceal this fact I lied.
Is it a sin to fall in love, asked the second crow, her slender neck inclined.
We thought love came from up above we often see the humans kissing arms entwined .
OH! I don’t know what to do said the angel,
her heart feeling as if it were rent in two.
The third crow, the smallest and the youngest asked her where is the one she loved .
With her head in her hands she cried, he is banished too.
He is gone, Lost to me I don’t know what to do.
The smallest crow sent forth a call which summoned their flock one and all.
We can help you angel dear we will help you find your love have no fear.
Then the skies  from far and wide were filled with black crows answering the littlest crows cries!
For now I can relate no more as I am tired and my eyes are sore .
I shall be back ere soon and tell you more.
There are two more little chapters to this tale if you wish to know  what happens to the angel,
This Chapter can be found at https://willowdot21.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/the-crow-angel/
the other two installments follow on.
Raven Chant by The Wand and the Moon
Lyrics  here
The Blue Jay
The name of the song comes from a street located high in the Hollywood Hills West, Los Angeles overlooking Sunset Strip where George Harrison rented a house at Blue Jay Way during August 1967. The home affords panoramic views of Hollywood and much of the Los Angeles Basin. It is located on a hillside of narrow, winding roads, difficult to navigate on a foggy night — thus creating the backdrop for the opening lines of the song:
“There’s a fog upon L.A., and my friends have lost their way.”
According to Harrison: “Derek Taylor got held up. He rang to say he’d be late. I told him on the phone that the house was in Blue Jay Way. And he said he could find it OK… he could always ask a cop. So I waited and waited. I felt really knackered with the flight, but I didn’t want to go to sleep until he came. There was a fog and it got later and later. To keep myself awake, just as a joke to pass the time while I waited, I wrote a song about waiting for him in Blue Jay Way. There was a little Hammond organ in the corner of this house which I hadn’t noticed until then… so I messed around on it and the song came.”
The Celtic Witch
http://getasword.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Celtic-Goddess-Epona.jpg
I am the Celtic Witch I was once, one of three. I live in yonder castle it was home to my two sisters and me. I have not much left now that is dear to me there is my fine armoured stallion,my dragon and my ravens three.
I am a dragon mistress that was what fate dealt my way my red hair marks me as such, yes it is as the legions say. I am not to be trifled with I am only for the brave for fine words or fine swords will not hinder me.
I was out hunting with my dragon and my steed I was busy chasing my quarry  and I did not my ravens heed. They came to tell me the news but I was too busy to hear.
https://willowdot21.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/the_witches2.jpg?w=128
My heart was ripped away from me when finding on my return that those evil witch hunters had taken my sisters away and had them burned. I vow I shall have revenge those evil witch hunters will pay I shall reek revenge on them they will regret the day, they took my sisters and burned them at the stake. I shall not forgive them that is not a mistake I shall make.
I will not sleep nor eat no drink shall pass my lips I shall wear two swords one at each of my hips. No fine words will sway me no fine swords could make me fear I shall avenge my sisters as they are all I hold dear.
So now I shall prepare myself my mission it is clear  I need to gather close to me just what I have left that is  dear to me there is my fine armoured stallion, my dragon and my ravens three.I shall fight for you my sisters I shall slay them all you’ll see.
Trailer for the controversial film the crow. :
The Crow is a 1994 American supernatural action film directed by Alex Proyas, written by David J. Schow
and John Shirley, and starring Brandon Lee in his final film appearance. Based on James O’Barr‘s
1989 comic book of the same name, it tells the story of Eric Draven (Lee), a rock musician who is revived
from the dead to avenge his murder and that of his fiancée.
Lee was accidentally killed during filming, and The Crow was consequently his last film. Unfinished scenes
that were to feature Lee were dealt with by rewrites and digital special effects. The Crow was dedicated to Lee and his fiancée, Eliza.
The film opened at the top of the box office and was a critical and commercial success. It also achieved a strong cult status.
