The gates of life lead
Us to many roads less trod
Guiding us to God
The gates of life lead
Us to many roads less trod
Guiding us to God
Running on empty
Autumn is almost quite spent
Yet earth will revive
One upon a dark, cold Halloween
Monsters grew on the face of a
Most beautiful fairy Queen
At her eyes they clustered
Magic of black Faye
All souls mustered
The Fairy
Queen to
Save.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She was kind and gentle, she was fair
Known for her red eyes and black hair
Dark,sad secrets she must keep
If you knew them you’d weep
She must never love
Due to a curse
From above
Vampire
She
Trick or treat the children love to play
As dark falls on all hallows day
Knock on doors and run away
Ghosts and ghouls ask for sweets
What tricks will they play
On you on All
Hallows
Day.
A Witch’s worse nightmare.
It is hard when you’re witch,
Your presence gives polite society an itch.
When you float by in your latest gown
Women scream and men hit the ground.
Now all of the above could be a boon
Were it not Halloween very soon.
It is not my job to please them.
It is enough to make you shout and scream
When your hair looks good on Halloween.
A careless sprite has cleaned my dress
Dabbed away all signs of mess.
No! that really can’t be right,
Looking tidy on All Hallows Eve Night.
To make it worse I just received a call to say
My Vampire friends can’t come and play.
OH! tell me what’s a girl to do
I think I am coming down with flu.
I think I have really lost the plot, that guy over there just told me I look hot!
Look at me, I look like a fairy,
What’s going on, I should be Bloody Scary Mary!
No, I did not think so,
Eek! I just looked in the mirror where did all my attitude go?
What is a self respecting witch to do
Some pesky imp has used all my goo !
There is only one night until Halloween
And I look like a Fairy Queen.
It gets worse, damn, this just is not fair
None of my rags are fit to wear.
They all make me look stunning .
This is the work of evil and cunning
I guess I shall just have to go and hide
Looking like this, the gossip I’ll never survive.
I shall just climb into a box
And dine on pig’s swill and slops.
I just don’t know what I have done
I even crave a little rest in the sun??
Help, this is not right I am a creature of the night.
Some sneaky sprite has put a hex on me.
The only thing I can do is flee.
Halloween Acrostic Poem.
Hale and hearty ghosts and scary ghouls
Awake October, thems the rules
Lupines greet the harvest moon
Luna rays excite their mood
Over graves mist does swirl
Witche’s cauldrons.
Eperveces
Every
Night.
She has a winning way with her, as gentle as Spring as vibrant as Summer.
To come first every season green and verdant or pink in the first flush of bloom.
A winning combination.
Scoop out orange flesh
Pumpkin face Jack-o’-lantern.
Mixed with spice hot soup.
Hello everyone this week our wonderful host and tutor for wordcraft and Tanka Tuesday Colleen said :
“This challenge explores Ekphrastic poetry, inspired by visual art or photographs. Lisa from TaoTalk, provided the photo for this month’s challenge:”
Lisa said she took this image at the Felt Mansion (western Michigan) in 2020. With Halloween just around the corner, the stark imagery in this photo sets a mood. Let’s see if you can capture the mood in your syllabic poetry. Use the photo as your inspiration!
This week I have chosen a Sijo. What is a Sijo?
The Sijo is a Korean form believed to have first been used in the fourteenth century. It is similar in structure to various Japanese forms such as Haiku. As with many forms of poetry, the Sijo became a preferred poetry form of the yangban or ruling class as well as royalty. They were written in Chinese and were originally short songs set to music. The focus of the Sijo is usually nature and contemplation. There are:Three Lines 14 to 16 syllables per line
A total of 44 to 47 syllables for the entire poem.
MONOCHROME
Monochrome light plays upon the water reflecting grayish tones.
Darkling mirrors merge above and below casting an illease.
Nature also reflecting this too as Halloween draws near.
When it all becomes too much I get my nails done!
I cheated this week the syllable count is correct but the true elements are not there.
Apple juicy red
So tempting beckons Eve
Pick me, worlds crumble.
This weeks prompt for Ronovanwrite’s Sijo is Festival. I have used nine Autumn festivals can you spot them ?
Festival.
Celebrate the joys of Autumn, give thanks for the harvest.
Halloween all souls of the dead rejoice running riot.
Diwali, festival of lights, fireworks in the mists, death and rebirth.
