November’s berry red
White roses adorn the bush
Late Autumn low sun
A beautiful colour mix
Harvenger of bleak winter.
The Argument.

Here is another old Halloween poem this time from 2013. I bring it out every year, it’s one of my favourites, so I make no apologies.
~~~~~~~~~~
I know that it is raining, I can see that it wet
But you are my familiar, and not a blooming pet!
I have asked you nicely I have even said please
Now go and get me food or I shall infest you with flees.
Excuse me, Lady Mistress, this does not seem quite right
Just where in my contract does it say I have to work for you at night!
You have run me ragged every minute of today.
I am tired now and my feathers are wet and here in the warm I need to stay.
Pardon me! my fine feathered friend,pardon me my beauty.
I am not requesting, I am demanding that you do your duty.
I am the one in charge not you , I am a tortured soul Vampire.
You do as I bid and don’t argue. Go, go on, What are waiting for. Wet weather attire?
Well Mistress that would not go amiss for I am not a duck,
And if I get lost you will miss out and that would be such bad luck.
Be Gone! Get out! and find me fresh blood
And if you play your cards right I shall dip you in the stream on your return to remove the mud.
Here are two Autumnal Poems I wrote back in 2014.
All the leaves are dancing, swirling down
Undulating in the breeze round and round
Tumbling rumblings scratching sound
Urgently creatures searching for their stores underground.
Misty mornings, chilly nights, fireworks after Halloween moon!
New seasons Harvest Moon, witches and pumpkin men will be here soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun’s heat is waning and the nights are drawing in.
Early morning porridge to keep you warm the cold will nip your skin.
Summer sadly has taken her up her shoes and left us the dark.
Ready for the harvest and shorter winter days.
Time to get out your winter coats and your furry boots
The long and lazy days of summer have vanished in a haze.
Cars driving with their lights on early, listen out for their warning toots!
There might be captive Zombies hidden in their boots!

Interlude: Looking Back…

A beautiful clip from Sue Vincent’s silent Eye Blog.
“The circle opened its heart to welcome me back… and ‘welcoming’ was exactly the feeling Stuart reported later, with a good deal of surprise. It was not what he had expected from the place at all. It is hard to find words that describe it… as if each of the different types of stone… the sarsens, bluestones, gneiss and many others… all sing a different note, but no matter how beautifully they harmonise, their song needs to pass through the human heart in order to be heard, felt and lived. So it was with tears of gratitude streaming… and probably a very silly grin… that we finally entered the circle of stones.”

Second Year of Witch Taming !

Every Year my friend’s daughter, who lives just up the road from me, puts on a fabulous Halloween display. The last two years she has had trouble with three particularly errant witches! They refuse to be assembled, light up or even dress properly. So I have been enlisted to sort them out. This year I had to take hubby along with me too, to fix the electronics. We were successful, it only took us two hours.
Now some of you may know I am shielding as I am waiting for an operation, (I have been shielding for over four months now….it gets very boring) So the whole family gave me a wide berth and came nowhere near hubby or I . It was definitely an interesting two hours 😂
Why was I asked to help, because I had been a window dresser in my youth.

The event this year over two weekends will be totally socially distanced. All money raised will be donated to the Kidney Transplant Organisation

Today is Thursday and if Sue Vincent was not fighting her own battle she would of set us her weekly #writephoto. So here is one I wrote back in November 2019 .
For visually challenged writers, the image shows a bay with clear, glassy water, reflecting blue sky and clouds. The bay is surrounded by green hills, one of which may be an island in the distance.
Glass.

What lies beneath the surface.
The reflection of Earth’s soul.
It draws you in, swallowing you whole.
The cloudy blue sky full of grace
Look deeper and you will see
The essence of you and me
See in the reflective glass
The beauty of your soul
Let Nature set your goal.

This is part of Sue Vincent’s #writephoto

A Witch’s worse nightmare.

It is hard when you’re witch,
Your presence gives polite society an itch.
When you float by in your latest gown
Women scream and men hit the ground.
Now all of the above could be a boon
Were it not Halloween very soon.
It is not my job to please them.
It is enough to make you shout and scream
When your hair looks good on Halloween.
A careless sprite has cleaned my dress
Dabbed away all signs of mess.
No that really can’t be right, looking tidy on All Souls Night.
To make it worse I just received a call to say
My Vampire friends can’t come and play.
OH! tell me what’s a girl to do
I think I am coming down with flu.
I think I have really lost the plot, that guy over there just told me I look hot!

Look at me, I look like a fairy,
What’s going on, I should be Bloody Scary Mary!
No, I did not think so,
Eek! I just looked in the mirror where did all my attitude go?
What is a self respecting witch to do
Some pesky imp has used all my goo !
There are only four days left until Halloween
And I look like a Fairy Queen.
It gets worse, damn, this just is not fair
None of my rags are fit to wear.
They all make me look stunning .
This is the work of evil and cunning
I guess I shall just have to go and hide
Looking like this, the gossip I’ll never survive.
I shall just climb into a box
And dine on pig’s swill and slops.
I just don’t know what I have done
I even crave a little rest in the sun??
Help, this is not right I am a creature of the night.
Some sneaky sprite has put a hex on me.
The only thing I can do is flee.

This week, Frank Tassone asks us to , write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that states or alludes to either Fall foliage or goose (kari)–or both, if you feel so inclined!
I chose a Tanka.

My ears hear Autumn
Mournful honk of a lone goose
Crisp crushing of leaves
I feel the woosh of feathers
Cold rustling in the north wind
This is part of Frank Tassone’s Haikai Challenge.

Chelsea Owens has challenged us to have some fun. Rule one below.
Seasons are changing. The Theme is a funny haiku (or, more technically accurate, a senryu) about seasonal change. Spring, fall, summer, winter, autumn; whatever.

Days are getting short
Gaia’s tempers getting fraught
We just won’t be taught
All rules for this prompt can be found at Chelsea’s post.
