Ronovan Writes Décima Poetry Challenge Prompt No. 29 (FRIGHT) This week, it’s the A rhyme line.

Ronovan chose the word FRIGHT this week.

Ronovan Writes Decima Challenge Image

You may, if you wish, make some kind of link between the Haiku Challenge prompt of (Bloom and. Wet) and Fright.  They could work well together, depending on how macabre you wanted to get. The HIAKU challenge can be switched out with synonyms.

The two challenges are SEPARATE but CAN BE combined if YOU CHOOSE to do so.

Welcome to the Décima Poetry Challenge. Each week we’ll be attempting a Décima, also known as an Espinela, poem.

If you don’t know how to write a Décima, click HERE to go to a post on How to Write an Espinela or Décima Poem.

I choose to include the Haiku words as well.

Fright Night.

Darkness fell crashing into night.
Making a real fuss heo cried out
You have broken my foot no doubt.
So consienious, Fay the sprite
Working on spells to give a fright.
Her magic powers start to bloom
Under an orange witches moon.
The Vampires dancing in the dew
Gorging of blood to make them new.
Witches cast spells to make you swoon.

The Argument.

Here is  another old  Halloween  poem  this  time  from  2013. I bring it out every year, it’s one of my favourites, so I make no apologies.

~~~~~~~~~~
I know that it is  raining,  I can see that it wet
But you are my familiar,  and not a blooming pet!
I have asked you nicely I have even said please
Now go and get me food or I shall infest you with flees.
Excuse me, Lady  Mistress, this does not seem quite right
Just where in my contract does it say I have to work for you at night!
You have run me ragged every minute of today.
I am tired now and my feathers are wet and here in the warm I need to stay.
Pardon me! my fine feathered friend,pardon me my beauty.
I am not requesting, I am demanding that you do your duty.
I am the one in charge not you , I am a tortured soul Vampire.
You do as I bid and don’t argue. Go, go on, What are waiting for. Wet weather attire?
Well Mistress that would not go amiss for I am not a duck,
And if I get lost  you will miss out and that would be such bad luck.
Be Gone! Get out! and find me fresh blood
And if you play your cards right I shall dip you in the stream on your return to remove the mud.girl_gloom_rain_raven_3512_1280x1024
Scream into  the rain
Autumnal Acrostic Poem, and a Halloween Poem.
Here are two Autumnal Poems I wrote back in 2014.
All the leaves are dancing, swirling down
Undulating  in the breeze round and round
Tumbling  rumblings scratching sound
Urgently  creatures searching for  their stores underground.
Misty mornings, chilly  nights, fireworks after  Halloween moon!
New seasons  Harvest Moon, witches and pumpkin men  will be here soon!
The sun’s heat  is  waning  and the nights  are drawing in.
Early morning porridge to keep  you warm the cold will nip your skin.
Summer sadly  has taken her up her shoes and left us the dark.
Ready  for the harvest and shorter winter days.
Time to get out  your  winter  coats  and your furry boots
The long  and lazy days  of  summer  have vanished in a haze.
Cars  driving with their lights on early, listen out for their  warning toots!
There might be captive Zombies hidden in their boots!
2020 WEEKLY #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 200, #THEMEPROMPT
WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
It’s the fourth week of the month! Are you ready for a theme prompt? Marsha Ingrao from last month’s challenge picked the theme.
This month’s theme is:
This week I have written a Tanka and a short Haiku . To express how humans have this illusion of power, over Mother Nature who laughs at us.
We feel we control
The outcome of life and fate.
Sadly deluded
Gaia sighs and laughes at us
She holds sway above us all.
Yes the very same Andrew Maurice Gold (August 2, 1951 – June 3, 2011) was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and record producer who influenced much of the sound of Los Angeles-dominated pop rock in the 1970s. Gold played on scores of records by other artists, most notably Linda Ronstadt‘s, and had his own success with the U.S. Top 40 hits “Lonely Boy” (1977) and “Thank You for Being a Friend” (1978), as well as the UK Top Five hit “Never Let Her Slip Away” (1978). If you don’t hee hee hee
Season of the Witch” is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan released in September 1966 on his third American album, Sunshine Superman. The song is credited to Donovan, although sometime collaborator Shawn Phillips has also claimed authorship.[4] Because of a dispute with Donovan’s record company, a UK edition with the song was not released until June 1967. Several artists have recorded their own renditions, including Julie Driscoll with Brian Auger and the Trinity (1967, Open); Al Kooper with Steve Stills (1968, Super Session); Terry Reid (1968, Bang Bang You’re Terry Reid); Vanilla Fudge (1968, Renaissance); Dr. John with the Blues Brothers Band (1998, Blues Brothers 2000); Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (2004; Naked) and Lana Del Rey (2019, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark soundtrack). The song is used in films such as Gus van Sant’s To Die For and Adam McKay’s The Other Guys. More information here
She Wolf” is a song by Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira, taken from her eighth studio album of the same name (2009). It was released on 10 July 2009, by Epic Records as the lead single from the album. The song was written by Shakira, John Hill, and Sam Endicott. Shakira and Hill also served as the producers for the song. A Spanish-language translation of the song titled “Loba“, which features additional lyrical contributions by Jorge Drexler, was also released earlier on 6 July. Musically, “She Wolf” is a hi-NRGsynth-pop and electropop track that details Shakira’s boredom due to her uncaring partner, and how she looks for others to please her.
Upon its release, “She Wolf” was met with favourable reception from music critics, many of whom praised it for its inventiveness. Commercially, “She Wolf” performed well on record charts. It peaked in the top 10 of charts of countries like Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. In the United States, “She Wolf” peaked at numbers 11 and one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Dance/Club Play Songs charts, respectively. The Spanish-language translation “Loba” peaked at number one on both the Hot Latin Songs and Tropical Songs charts. “She Wolf” was certified double-platinum in Spain and platinum in Italy, Mexico, and the United States.
An accompanying music video for the song was directed by Jake Nava, and features Shakira dancing in various locations, such as a red cave and a golden cage. Critical reception towards the video was also positive, many of whom praised Shakira’s dancing ability. For additional promotion, Shakira performed the song on a number of shows and music festivals. It was also a part of the setlist for The Sun Comes Out World Tour in 2010. More information here
“She Wolf”
S.O.S. she’s in disguise
S.O.S. she’s in disguise
There’s a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
A domesticated girl that’s all you ask of me,
Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy.
Moon’s awake now, with eyes wide open
My body is craving, so feed the hungry
I’ve been devoting myself to you Monday to Monday and Friday to Friday
Not getting enough retribution or decent incentives to keep me at it
Starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office, ah
So I’m gonna go somewhere closer to get me a lover and tell you about it
There’s a she wolf in the closet,
Open up and set it free [wolf sound]
There’s a she wolf in the closet,
Let it out so it can breathe [inhales, exhales]
Sitting across the bar, staring right at her prey,
It’s going well so far, she’s gonna get her way.
Nocturnal creatures are not so prudent,
The moon’s my teacher, and I’m her student.
To locate the single man I’ve got on me a special radar,
And the fire department’s hot line in case I get in trouble later
Not looking for cute little divas or rich city guys that just want to enjoy
I’m having a very good time and behave very bad in the arms of a boy
There’s a she wolf in the closet,
Open up and set it free [wolf sound]
There’s a she wolf in the closet,
Let it out so it can breathe [inhales, exhales]
S.O.S. she’s in disguise
S.O.S. she’s in disguise [breathes heavily]
There’s a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
S.O.S. she’s in disguise
S.O.S. she’s in disguise
There’s a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
There’s a she wolf in the closet,
Let it out so it can breathe [inhales, exhales]
Second Year of Witch Taming !
Every Year my friend’s daughter, who lives just up the road from me, puts on a fabulous Halloween display. The last two years she has had trouble with three particularly errant witches! They refuse to be assembled, light up or even dress properly. So I have been enlisted to sort them out. This year I had to take hubby along with me too, to fix the electronics. We were successful, it only took us two hours.
Now some of you may know I am shielding as I am waiting for an operation, (I have been shielding for over four months now….it gets very boring) So the whole family gave me a wide berth and came nowhere near hubby or I . It was definitely an interesting two hours 😂
One-Liner Wednesday: Halloween.
“Halloween was confusing. All my life my parents said, ‘Never take candy from strangers.’ And then they dressed me up and said, ‘Go beg for it.’ “
Halloween Nightmare.
A Witch’s worse nightmare.
Image from Pixabay
It is hard when you’re witch,
Your presence gives polite society an itch.
When you float by in your latest gown
Women scream and men hit the ground.
Now all of the above could be a boon
Were it not Halloween very soon.
It is not my job to please them.
It is enough to make you shout and scream
When your hair looks good on Halloween.
A careless sprite has cleaned my dress
Dabbed away all signs of mess.
No that really can’t be right, looking tidy on All Souls Night.
To make it worse I just received a call to say
My Vampire friends can’t come and play.
OH! tell me what’s a girl to do
I think I am coming down with flu.
I think I have really lost the plot, that guy over there just told me I look hot!
photo credit
Look at me, I look like a fairy,
What’s going on, I should be Bloody Scary Mary!
No, I did not think so,
Eek! I just looked in the mirror where did all my attitude go?
What is a self respecting witch to do
Some pesky imp has used all my goo !
There are only four days left until Halloween
And I look like a Fairy Queen.
It gets worse, damn, this just is not fair
None of my rags are fit to wear.
They all make me look stunning .
This is the work of evil and cunning
I guess I shall just have to go and hide
Looking like this, the gossip I’ll never survive.
I shall just climb into a box
And dine on pig’s swill and slops.
I just don’t know what I have done
I even crave a little rest in the sun??
Help, this is not right I am a creature of the night.
Some sneaky sprite has put a hex on me.
The only thing I can do is flee.
Running for life.
Running for  Life
Step after step I drag myself through the rain
Blind to all around me , my  mind closed to the pangs of pain.
Fear, hatred and panic screaming in my head, loathing coursing in my veins.
Step after  blooded step, I run and yet it is gaining.
I stumble and fall , legs and arms grazed I crawl no point in complaining.
Hot breath on my neck I shudder in fear I smell his rank sweat as he draws near.
I feel his claws scrape at my flesh, I loose a scream of primal fear.
Ripping at my dress and  hair I run for my life, to look over my shoulder I don’t dare.
No choices left to me, naught I can do . I stand and face the beast  for death I prepare.
Eyes red as the devil, pure evil it seems, closing on me, my worst of dreams.
Caught in his clutches, mercy is not on the cards, so  I beg for divine intervention.
His nostrils flaring, baring his fangs letting me live is not his intention.
Finally all I can do is fall on my knees and pray , why must this horror be my last of day.
Suddenly after a thunderous noise a white flash as lightening  carved him in half God be praised.
Broken and bleeding I lay in the mud,my life slipping out of me no fight left no more……..
Song Lyric Sunday, Users Choice.
This week our host, Jim Adams has given us the prompt Users Choice for Song Lyric Sunday.
This song is a seminal song for me! It was released in January 2009 the month and year I broke my back for the second time. There is a story about Dancing Queen too and my back but I am not going there today. Also Daniel is perfect for this Halloween month of October 💜
Daniel” is a song by English recording artist Bat for Lashes, from her second studio album, Two Suns. It is her best selling single to date, selling over 46,000 copies worldwide. The song was announced as the lead single from Two Suns in January 2009, then released as a digital download single on 1 March 2009, and as a 7″ vinyl single on 6 April 2009. The track was written by Natasha Khan and produced by David Kosten, as with all tracks on the album. Ira Wolf Tuton from Yeasayer provided the bass lines for the song and Khan did the rest of the instrumentation herself. The single’s cover features Khan with an image of the character Daniel LaRusso, from the film The Karate Kid, painted on her back. A character much like LaRusso also features at the end of the music video which goes with the song. The B-side of the 7″, ‘A Forest’ is a cover version of the 1980 single by The Cure of the same name.
Natasha Khan (born 25 October 1979), known professionally as Bat for Lashes, is an English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She has released five studio albums, Fur and Gold (2006), Two Suns (2009), The Haunted Man (2012), The Bride (2016), and Lost Girls (2019), receiving Mercury Prize nominations for Fur and GoldTwo Suns and The Bride. Khan is also the vocalist for Sexwitch, a collaboration with the rock band Toy and producer Dan Carey.
“Daniel”
Daniel, when I first saw you
I knew that you had a flame in your heart
And under wild blue skies
Marble movie skies
I found a home in your eyes
We’ll never be apart
And when the fires came
The smell of cinders and rain
Perfumed almost everything
We laughed and laughed and laughed
And in the golden blue
Crying took me to
The darkest place you knew
And set fire to my heart
When I run in the dark, Daniel
To a place that’s vast, Daniel
Under a sheet of rain in my heart, Daniel
I dream of home
But in a goodbye bed
With my arms around your neck
Into our mouths the tears crept
Just kids in the eye of the storm
And as my house spun round
My dreams pulled me from the ground
Forever to search for the flame
For home again
For home again
When I run in the dark, Daniel
Into a place that’s vast, Daniel
Under a sheet of rain in my heart, Daniel
I dream of home
When I run in the dark, Daniel
Into a place that’s vast, Daniel
Under a sheet of rain in my heart, Daniel
I dream of home
