Welcome Ruby, Tuesday

Dear readers  of  willowdot21

I  thought  I had  better  introduce  myself to you all.  I  am Ruby  and  I  am  a six year old  Blonde  Labrador . I  was  a  guide  dog  and  willow’s husband,  my  new  daddy,  has  been taking  me  for  play  walkies  for  three  and a  half  years!
My  owner  who is  blind has  got  a  bad  back  and  neck  which has  got  worse  and  I can  no  longer  mange her.  Actually  it has  been  nearly  a year  since  I have had  to  work  properly. So  the  Guide  Dogs  for  the  blind  who  owned  me  decided  I  was  no longer  able  to  stay  with  my  blind  owner.
First of  all  I  was  going to  be  retrained  to  be a  buddy  dog   helping  young  blind  children  to  get  used  to  dogs  like  me  ( I  am quite  special  and  can help  them  to  adjust) . Then  they  decided  that  willow’s husband  could  have  me  come  to  live  with  him  and and  willow!
I  love  it here  I  get  two long  walks  a  day and  lots of  running  with  the  ball, I have  been  out  in  the car  to  the  Grandmother’s  house she is  not  well  you know, she has  cancer..
I  have a  new  bed  it is  really  comfy  it is  made  of  Memory  Foam, a  new  food  and  water  bowl  and  I have  bought  my  three  most  precious  toys with  me, two  little  guide  dogs  and a plastic bone.  Most  of  all I  get  lots  and lots  of  love!
I  am not  allowed up  stairs  or  on  the  furniture which I  don’t  mind  as I  never  really  liked  stairs   and  as  for furniture  it is  not  really  dog  is it?
We have  had  a  busy  weekend  there were  lots of  humans  here  Sunday  as  it  was  the  Grandmothers  96th  Birthday …my  goodness  that is  old  even  for a  human! There  were  two other human’s  there  and I  could  smell dog on  them. They   promised  I  could  meet their dog   Monty  very  soon!  Also  there  was  the  Grandmother  and  my  new  Mum  an Dad!
The  next  day  was  special  too  as  it was Dad’s  Birthday,  it  was  quieter but still  special! Mum and Dad  went out in  the evening for  a meal,  they  promised  they  would  not  be long  and  they  were not  and I  being a  retired  guide  dog  behaved  perfectly.
I have  enclosed  some  photos  of  myself  for  you  all  to see I  do hope  I  meet  with  your  approval.
Lots  of  love  Ruby Willers  ( Guide  Dog, Retired)
xxxxxxxx
Ps . I have  met  Vlad  he is  very  naughty  … but nice.  xxxx

Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

  1. Wonderful to meet you Ruby. I am so pleased that you have a new home with loving humans. It sounds like you are enjoying your new home. My parents used to breed Labradors and my best friend was a black Lab named Leader. I miss having a companion so I am sure you are appreciated. Willow and her family will love you dearly. Say Hello to Willow for me and have a great day.

    1. Well Paul willow has told me all about you! I am enjoying my new home. No wonder you are such a nice human growing up with Labradors! willow tells me she used to have a Black Labrador too, they too are very lovely dogs. I shall say hi to willow from you

  2. Awesome! I have a student who is traning a guide dog here in high school. He is a golden as well. I love having him in class. The class also loves him. His name is Shamrock. Glad you are happy in your new home!

  3. Okay… I’ll play…

    Hi Ruby.

You probably know by now what a big heart your new Mum has, but, you should know she’s a very special lady to a lot of people you can’t see… I’m glad you found a wonderful home in which to retire, for you’ve been a very good dog, as anyone can see…

Enjoy your new place; you’ve stumbled into dog heaven right here on Earth…

Say hi to Willow for me, and all of us….BTW, for a puppy dog, you type very well..

    Woof.

    1. Hello Mr Ned, willow has told me what a wonderful human you are. I know I am a lucky girl but my new Mum and Dad are even luckier to have me! ❤

  4. Hello Ruby, nice to meet you. I am so glad you found a loving home with willow and her husband. As some said before: She is a special lady and I am thinking lots of her and light a candle every now and then. Take good care and enjoy your retirement. Sending a little hug Bee

  5. Hello Ruby, I wish our demented spaniel were as well behaved as you but he is my little boys partner in crime so you can imagine the scrapes a 7 year old two-legs can get into with a three year old for-legged best friend

    1. Omg! My brain hurts at the thought of it. Mind you your ‘demented’ spaniel is doing a grand job teaching your 2 legs many valuable life lessons! Love Ruby xxxx
