Song Lyric Sunday Make a Choice.

It is Sunday and and time for Song Lyric Sunday. Jim Adams, our gracious host has said. “today’s prompt is “Come/ Go/ Leave/ Stay.

The first song that came to mind is I’ll follow the sun by the Beatles.

I’ll Follow the Sun” is a song by the the Beatles. It is a ballad written primarily and sung by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. It was released in 1964 on the Beatles for Sale album in the United Kingdom and on Beatles ’65 in the United States, but was written long before that year: a version recorded in 1960 can be found on the bootleg record You Might As Well Call Us the Quarrymen. The song was released as a mono extended play 45 in 1964 on Parlophone/EMI (and in 1995 as a B-side to “Baby It’s You”). In July and August 1965, the song peaked at number 4 on Sweden’s Kvällstoppen Chart.[4]

I am not keen on McCartney but this is one of his better songs.

Then I thought of this one! Which I live and adore and knocks all other versions in to a cocked hat, even the Original by Bob Dylan!

If You Gotta Go, Go Now” (sometimes subtitled “(Or Else You Got to Stay All Night)“) is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1964. The first released version was as a single in the US by the UK group The Liverpool Five in July 1965, but this went uncharted in the US despite receiving much airplay, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. Another English band, Manfred Mann, then issued the song as a single in September 1965; this version reached number 2 on the UK charts.

And here is my second favourite version in French from Fairport Convention.

Fairport Convention are a British folk rock band, formed in 1967 by Richard Thompson (guitarvocals), Simon Nicol (guitar, vocals), Ashley Hutchings (bass guitar), and Shaun Frater (drumspercussion), with Frater replaced by Martin Lamble after their first gig. They started out heavily influenced by American folk rock and singer-songwriter material, with a setlist dominated by Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell songs and a sound that earned them the nickname ‘the British Jefferson Airplane‘. Vocalists Judy Dyble and Iain Matthews joined them before the recording of their self-titled debut in 1968;[3] afterwards, Dyble was replaced by Sandy Denny, with Matthews leaving during the recording of their third album.

Listen to me, baby
There’s something you must see
I want to be with you, gal
If you want to be with meBut if you got to go
It’s all right
But if you got to go, go now
Or else you gotta stay all night. It ain’t that I’m questionin’ you
To take part in any quiz
It’s just that I ain’t got no watch
An’ you keep askin’ me what time it isBut if you got to go
It’s all right
But if you got to go, go now
Or else you gotta stay all nightI am just a poor boy, baby
Lookin’ to connect
But I certainly don’t want you thinkin’
That I ain’t got any respectBut if you got to go
It’s all right
But if you got to go, go now
Or else you gotta stay all night. You know I’d have nightmares
And a guilty conscience, too
If I kept you from anything
That you really wanted to doBut if you got to go
It’s all right
But if you got to go, go now
Or else you gotta stay all nightIt ain’t that I’m wantin’
Anything you never gave before
It’s just that I’ll be sleepin’ soon
It’ll be too dark for you to find the doorBut if you got to go
It’s all right
But if you got to go, go now
Or else you gotta stay all night.

Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

      1. Off the top of my head, the only one of their’s I can think of is Doo Wah Diddy, so nice to hear something new. I coud hear those same voices in this song.

  1. “I’ll Follow The Sun” is a beautiful song. Always loved that song, and the whole “Beatles ’65” album. I’ve managed to collect all their recorded songs (at least their music that was released by Parlophone), but was frustrated because the songs were “out of order” from the Capitol albums, so I built playlists that had the songs in the order I remember. It was worth the effort (and not that much effort) to do that…

  2. Good musical selections. Richard Thompson has become one of my favorites over the years. The Beatles and Manfred Mann aren’t too shabby either 😉

  3. Never a real Beatles enthusiast, more of a Stones girl myself…. but that said, I do love this one. I listened to the Manfred Mann too as I hadn’t heard it before. His name always goes to Blinded by the light with me, which I actually do like now- that I rarely hear it! Excellent choices all!
