Well it’s Sunday again and Jim Adams he is back with us for Song Lyric Sunday Challenge. This week February 2, 2020 – our challenge is Babe/Cutie/Doll/Honey/Sweetie.
I am going with The Top Cats, simply because I like this group and especially this track. I like Scandinavian dramas and music 💜
Top Cats is a Swedish rockabilly band formed in 2001. The earliest line-up was made up of Jon Kleppenes (as lead singer), Daniel Kjellberg (drummer), Henrik Törnevik (contrabass), Fredrik Lilja (guitar), Olle Sätterström (guitar, trumpet, piano), Erica Larsson and Sandra Zackrisson (both backing vocals). When in 2004 drummer Daniel Kjellberg left, he was replaced by Robert Jansson. In 2007, double bassist Henrik Törnevik left and was replaced by Martin Lindahl. Information from here
“Baby Doll” is a song written by Mårten Eriksson, Lina Eriksson and Susie Päivärinta. The song was performed in the second semifinal of Melodifestivalen 2012 by the Top Cats. From Andra chansen the song made it to the finals inside the Stockholm Globe Arewna, where it ended up 6th. Information from here.
TOP CATS lyrics : “Baby Doll”
Cruisin’ down the streets at midnight
Music boppin’, ladies rockin’
Dudes and dudettes all over town
Saw this bird walkin’ down the pavement
Traffic stoppin’, fellas droppin’
She just kept walkin’ straight on by
And I realised she’s all I’m missin’
I pulled my wheels aside
And with a smile I rolled my window down
Baby doll
You need some rock ‘n’ roll
You need someone to hold you on a cold and lonesome night
Baby doll doll doll, rock ‘n’ roll roll roll
Over here, now bring it, bring it over here
Oh, baby doll
Don’t be cruel, don’t leave me hangin’
On a wire, my heart’s on fire
Don’t make me beg now pretty please
Streets look good when you’re in the front seat
Motor runnin’, bird is hummin’
Right here beside me at the wheel
With her by my side nothing’s missing
I turn my wheels ahead
And with a smile I press my right foot down
Baby doll
You need some rock ‘n’ roll
You need someone to hold you on a cold and lonesome night
Baby doll doll doll, rock ‘n’ roll roll roll
Over here, now bring it, bring it over here
Baby, my ride is gonna take you high
Straight down Rocky Road and then we’ll hit the sky
Tonight, oh yes tonight
Gonna steer us steady down Lovers Lane
Up to Seventh Heaven and then back again
Up to Seventh Heaven and then back again tonight
Oh baby doll doll doll
Rock ‘n’ roll roll roll
Over here now, bring it, bring it over here
Baby doll
You need some rock ‘n’ roll
You need someone to hold you on a cold and lonesome night
Baby doll doll doll, rock ‘n’ roll roll roll
Over here, now bring it, bring it over here
Oh Baby doll
My baby doll
Oh baby doll
My baby doll
Okay now let’s have a sloppy weepy because we all need to weep over a song or a film. Honey by Bobby Goldsboro.
Released in 1968 Honey“, also known as “Honey (I Miss You)“, is a song written by Bobby Russell. He first produced it with former Kingston Trio member Bob Shane. Then he gave it to American singer Bobby Goldsboro, who recorded it for his 1968 album of the same name, originally titled Pledge of Love. Information from here.
