Monday Music Moves Me. The kids are alright.

Patrick, who’s our Guest Conductor this month, tells us that yesterday was National Children’s Day, and thus wants songs from young people under 18. I have 12. I’ve listed the ages of the performers (in some cases, a range) at the time of the record, so you know…

Helen Kate Shapiro (born 28 September 1946) is a British pop and jazz singer and actress. While still a teenager in the early 1960s, she was one of Britain’s most successful female singers. With a voice described by AllMusic as possessing “the maturity and sensibilities of someone far beyond their teen years”, Shapiro recorded two 1961 UK chart toppers, “You Don’t Know” and “Walkin’ Back to Happiness”, when she was just fourteen years old. Shapiro first achieved prominence in 1961 when her debut single, “Don’t Treat Me Like a Child“,

Stephen Peter Marriott (30 January 1947 – 20 April 1991) was an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He co-founded and played in the rock bands Small Faces  when he was 17yrd and Humble Pie, in a career spanning over two decades. Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces.

Stephen Lawrence Winwood (born 12 May 1948) is an English musician, singer and songwriter whose genres include blue-eyed soulrhythm and bluesblues rock and pop rock. Though primarily a guitarist, keyboard player and vocalist prominent for his distinctive, soulful high tenor voice, Winwood plays other instruments proficiently, including drums, mandolin, bass and saxophone. At age 14, Winwood (then known as “Stevie” Winwood) joined the Spencer Davis Group along with older brother Muff, who later had success as a record producer, after Davis saw them performing as the Muffy Wood Jazz Band at a Birmingham pub called the Golden Eagle. The group made their debut at the Eagle and subsequently had a Monday-night residency there. Winwood’s distinctive high tenor singing voice and vocal style drew comparisons to Ray Charles.

Michael Gordon Oldfield (born 15 May 1953) is an English musician, songwriter, and producer best known for his debut studio album Tubular Bells (1973), which became an unexpected critical and commercial success. Though primarily a guitarist, Oldfield plays a range of instruments, which includes keyboards, percussion, and vocals. He has adopted a range of musical styles throughout his career, including progressive rockworldfolkclassicalelectronicambient, and new age music. Stared in folk clubs age 15yrs.

Lulu : She was born in Scotland on 3 November 1948. She was signed to Decca Records at the age of 15. She released her first single in 1964, a cover of The Isley Brothers’ “Shout”.

.

Peter Frampton : Joined The Herd at 16.

#TankaTuesday Weekly #Poetry Challenge No. 324, 6/13/2023

WELCOME TO #TANKATUESDAY!

短歌 火曜日

This week’s challenge for Colleen Chesebro’s Tuesday Tanka is a photo prompt. Colleen says: “This year, I’ve asked my friend, and photographer, Terri Webster Schrandt, from secondwindleisure.com to share her photos with us for inspiration. Terri runs a weekly photo challenge called Sunday Stills. Check it out HERE.

Terri says: “This image is inspired by your recent spirit animal quiz for your #TankaTuesday syllabic poetry challenge. I captured this image in Arizona in April, and she reminds me of the mythical Phoenix or Thunderbird with her wings spread here.”

Our challenge for this week:

  • Write your syllabic poem using the photo for inspiration. Delve deeper into the mythology behind the image and read:

I love the legends of the Pheonix,Thunderbird and the soaring Eagle. I love the thought of a huge bird that see all and protects us. I have written a double Tricube :

Here are the rules of tricubes:

• Each line contains three syllables.

• Each stanza contains three lines.

• Each poem contains three stanzas.

So we’re talking cubes in mathematical terms (to the third power). No rules for rhymes, meter, etc. Just three, three, and three.

Born of fire.

Like the pine
That has to
Burn to live

Phoenix rise
From the fire
Bring new life

All seeing
Life from death
Renewal

Huge wings flap
Thunderous
A sparking

Guardian
Of us all
Mere mortals

Thunderbird
And Pheonix
Protect us.
