SoCs, Lest We Forget.

Giant Rememberence  Poppy
Giant Rememberence Poppy

Lest we forget? a war  to end all wars

Yet everywhere  you look there  are more  and more!

We preach  peace, we say no more

Still somewhere, on every  continent,  someone is at war!

Neighbour  against neighbour  brothers and sisters  too

Always it is  the innocents  who do the  suffering.  What are we to do?

They are erecting giant Poppies to commemorate the start of  the first world war.

It started  in a foreign land, a duke  was shot  the result we know and  more.

The first world war started in 1914  on the 28th of July

Sadly looking round the  world , we have learned  nothing . Can you tell me why?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This  is my  entry  for  this  week  for  SoCs on Lindaghill .
Here are the rules:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” or “Begin with the word ‘The’.”
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people will come and read your post! The way to ping back, is to just copy and paste the URL of my post somewhere on your post. Then your URL will show up in my comments, for everyone to see. For example, in your post you can copy and paste the following: This post is part of SoCS:  http://lindaghill.wordpress.com/2014/07/25/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-july-2514/  The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. Have fun!
Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown.The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.
      1. It is neat. I looked up the day cause I thought it was a holiday or something in England. I couldn’t find anything. We do Remembrance Day on Nov. 11 each year with all the poppies and such. But I’ve never seen one that big before. I know you are enamoured of flowers, now i know it is flowers of any size. Ha!
      2. Yes we also commemorate the end of the war on 11th Nov as you do. This is just a special celebration of the start of of the war.
  1. I’ve been asking myself these questions for years. Indeed, it is very sad that some believe war is necessary.
    Thanks for adding this to SoCS, Willow. 🙂
  2. No I can’t answer it either but it occupies my thoughts for a long time :-(. Thanks for this great post
      1. feelings mutual I just posted some thoughts on Twitter: “Why girls in Iraq & not in Syria? Why boys in Afghanistan & not in Gaza? And what if the powerful decide your child is not worth protecting?” My friends husband is from Syria. They lived for a while there and now they cannot go back. I just don’t get the whole thing. The whole war thing. I am from Germany living in Great Britain even more distressing believe me with all those WW remembrance things coming up. But that is probably the reason why I don’t get the whole thing….. 😦
      2. Sadly war has been around since the first caveman picked up a rock and lobbed it at his neighbour! Sadly it has just escalated and got worse and worse!It is so sad that we just cannot get along together!
      3. Well, I sometimes wonder if that is a kind of nature thing: There are too many people on the planet the resources get scarce so in peoples subconsciousness a switch get turned to: Must fight to survive!
      4. No it doesn’t. My experience tells me though that no theory tells the whole truth of a situation. There is always more and often something better 🙂
      5. Yes I know you are right there however dark things get, and they do look dark at times, there is always hope . Hope for something better. Yes we must never give up hope. xx
      6. Yes if you the 100yrs commemoration of the start of WW1 we lighted a candle last night between 10pm and 11pm like many others. I still fear we have not learnt much. I hope we soon talk on happier subjects. Have s good day /night. 🙂 x
