Death by Aid

Tiny little fingers in the dust, huge eyes so sad begging for your crust. You are so hungry you need it for you but this is your child, who you can’t deny, true?

Hunger gnawing at your bones like cancer spreading fast. You worry if you’ll be strong enough to find water, as what you have just will not last.

No one is going to help you, your sons and daughters gone for soldiers. These two left will escape that fate as they will not grow much older. Your milk dried up, your belly empty. It hurts so much to walk but walk you must, you can’t stop. The baby at your breast has long since ceased  crying. This sweet young child clinging to your skirt is dying.

Where is the help  that was promised where is the aid that you need. You have walked days now with no hope of helping your children not even to feed. The baby needs medicine the western doctors dispense  you have to flee from your home just were is the sense.

War at your left side famine at your right , politicians and corrupt leaders uncaring of your plight. Had you stayed they would of killed you or worse …OH! my poor children your birth is your curse.

Standing at the top of the hill you can see a straggling encampment a red cross flag flying still. You put down the baby his soul already flown to your husbands arms now, at least not alone. You need to rest  but your aim is in reach . You lay in the dust next to your babes, close your eyes  just ignore the flies.

Tiny little fingers in the dust , huge eyes so sad finally closed. Where is  the help that was promised where is the aid.War on your left side famine at your right they no longer threaten you Death has arrive to erase your plight.

Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

  1. We all know about Aids in Africa, as well as other problems, but mostly I’m sad to say, we put it all to the back of our minds. Even with our current economic problems, they are nothing compared to this suffering, but we all knoiw which problem will get the most effort in solving.

  2. thought provoking, i’m thinking what should we do to correct all these faults, can we really point to a beginning of it all. is it politics? oil? racism? or mere human nature?
you are a gifted writer, they do evoke feelings, feelings we want to repress and keep hidden. you bring them forward and lay the facts bare. the power of these words echo louder than our cries of denial. we hate to accept there is inequality, war, corruption, famine and the dreadful diseases. we can’t point out what is wrong. our minds deny their very existence. but these words shatter barriers of denial, makes us accept the reality. you can rest assured you did your part. you provoked the thoughts which is the aim of a writer.
the more i read from your works the more impressed i become. i see diversity and in a nutshell the talent that is oozing in these pages. keep writing.

    1. I really feel strongly about this subject, man’s in humanity to man dressed up and sanitized then called aid to soothe the consciences of the masses. Blind eyes are turned for oil producers , money, the fat cats cream most of it off!

  3. so, so haunting, Willow, you tell it the way it should be told. .so that all who read are held spellbound.. and here I am with tears in my eyes. for we have water to soak ourselves in…and they are dying for the lack of a few mouth-fulls…. if only tears could help.. Tiny little fingers, large pleading eyes, and hearts as big as the World.., xPenx

    1. If only, if only. the road to hell is full of good intentions my Mum used to say. I cannot understand why it still happens surely we have enough to share around. But wars , politics and bad men get in the way. If tears could help we could all cry an ocean but I fear even that would be misdirected. As usual the innocent and poor suffer and the rich prosper and thrive………… So sad Pen so bad! xx

  4. In the UK alone we raise £50M to help these people EVERY YEAR..Where is this money going? It isn’t all going where it should. And it is heart breaking. I did a similar blog in 2010 asking this question. And we can only speculate as to why a movie brings in 100M at the box office, a Soccer player gets Millions of pounds and a bank CEO who lost the bank TRILLIONS gets sacked with a 300Million hand shake.

Humanity is fucked. Individual acts of kindness happen. But we can’t all do it as one, we need to do it together.. And that won’t happen ..

Great Blog Willow. Thank you for showing it to me, and sharing it to others who will read mine

    1. People are selfish, they close their eyes to what is really happening in the world. As long as they are not affected they do not care!It is not just the famine that people ignore there is the child soldiers https://willowdot21.wordpress.com/2012/04/18/no-weep-for-your-mother/, child brides,https://willowdot21.wordpress.com/2012/04/13/holiday-surprise/ FGM https://willowdot21.wordpress.com/2012/04/23/graces-party/ and there is plenty plenty more! It makes me so angry.

      1. It makes me angry also. Reason I blog so much about Corporate Greed. The ONLY way to win the day is for EVERYONE to take every penny out of their banks..That would be a game changer. But the Banks don’t have all our Money, it’s monopoly money.

And this disgusts me big time. I will bookmark your pages..

        Thank you x

      2. I think it is worse than that. Should I blog what is REALLY in my mind, I would lose followers and offend people. So I do what I can. I think if we all become one, try to be one, talk as one, we have a chance.

Far to many have their heads in the sand, and THIS is the biggest issue to overcome..

      3. Sadly people will not move as one, look at the world today … it is all Me Me Me IIII people would just say yes but do nothing. sad but true.

      4. I do my bit, go to Marches etc. I was going to blog the G8 meeting that was in Scotland just before the London Bombings on 7/7, I got pictures if it all, some heavy shit, I got lifted for being there with a Camera. Faked a Panic Attack and got home 🙂

        lol

      5. I wasn’t going to jail. It was Manchester Police as well ..I just fell and hoped it would work..

        🙂
        It worked..
        Might blog this..
        Hmmm
        Have all the pictures
