Song Lyric Sunday: American Idol.

Good Sunday Morning everyone. It’s time for Jim Adams Song Lyric Sunday. .

May 5, 2024 – Songs by performers from American Idol suggested by Nancy aka The Sicilian Storyteller. This is Nancy’s final week as guest host and what a Stirling Job she has done providing us with great prompts. Yea! Nancy.

Now I am from the UK so in fact I have never watched American Idol. So I have done a lot of YouTube and Wikipedia traling. I have come up with four of the “best” according to YouTube. These are the ones that caught my ear and some information about them. I know I am supposed to give the lyrics but that would make this post way too long so I am going to break the rules this week…. 😱 So here we go first up is “Dibesh Pokharel (born October 24, 1997),known by his stage name Arthur Gunn, is a Nepalese-born American singer-songwriter from Wichita, Kansas, who came to national attention in 2020 as the runner-up finalist on the eighteenth season of the singing reality show American Idol. He started singing in 2014 and is known for his “textured, sandpapery” vocals. He released his eight-song debut album, Grahan, in early 2018. He released another album, KHOJ, in 2019 with singles including “Ma,” “Khoj” and “Karnali (The River). More information here. “

Second up is “Catie Virginia Turner (born February 14, 2000)[4][5] is an American pop singer. She rose to prominence as a contestant on sixteenth season of American Idol, placing in the top seven. In September 2019, Turner further gained notoriety after her song “Prom Queen” was used in the trailer for Shane Dawson‘s web series The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star, which gained over 11 million views in just one week. She has released four EPsThe Sad Vegan as an independent artist, followed by Heartbroken and Milking ItComedy & Tragedy: Act I, and Comedy & Tragedy: Act II with Atlantic Records. More information here.”

.

Third on the list is “Abi auditioned in Los Angeles. She sang “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish, from the Barbie film soundtrack. All three judges voted “yes”, sending her to the next round.

One week later, the judges surprised her via a video message at the Palm Springs Street Fair, where she frequently gigs, informing her that her Golden Ticket was upgraded to a Platinum Ticket, which enables her to skip the Idol Arena stage. More Information Here

Last but nowhere near last “Walker Burroughs auditioned in Louisville. He sang “Love Like This” by Ben Rector and “Hello” by Lionel Richie. All three judges voted “yes”, sending him to the next round. Read more here.

.

*********

Then I found this , one of my favourites James Blunt singing with IAM Tongi. William “Iam” Guy Tongi (born September 1, 2004) is a singer who won season 21 of American Idol. He is the first person from Hawaii, the first Pacific Islander, and the first non-country singer in three years, to win the competition. He is also the first winner to have been born after the show’s premiere on June 11, 2002. More information here.

Happy Sunday Everyone and thanks again Nancy 💜💜💜

Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

  1. Well done for doing so much research on the show – I also did a fair bit but found another way round it! I never watch the UK talent shows – can’t stand the fakeness of them – and haven’t bothered searching the depths of ITV2 for American Idol either. Not the easiest of challenges for non-Americans, was it!

    1. No it certainly wasn’t was it … Still you could say it kept us busy. I very rarely watch these shows either because they are all hype…. I have been known to sneak a peak when I am really low and need a laugh 😂 😂 😂 😂

      1. It did take some working out! If I sneaked a peek at those shows I think I’d end up crying, not laughing!

  2. I love James’s voice! I haven’t listen to the last couple of albums, he’s gone a bit soft since he got married and no less into a much richer and well know family. He has passion in his voice! 🙂

  3. Absolutely fantastic post Willow! Each & every one of these singers who we may never have heard of but not for this show. Gives me chills in the best way possible. Music is hopeful & healing ❤

  4. These videos you researched, Willow, are priceless. They are the essence of what shows like American Idol are all about. Call it hype or whatever tag you choose, what I see are young people with a dream just looking for a way to get their foot in the door. You really did your homework tracking these videos down when you easily could have gone with someone already famous around the world, such as Carrie Underwood or Adam Lambert. I really appreciate you, as a non-American, going the extra mile for this theme. Thanks for doing that and not just writing it off because it’s a topic that doesn’t appeal to you. I thought each of the performers in your videos was uniquely talented. The young man from Nepal had a great quality about him. I wish them all luck.

Thanks, Willow, for your very kind words. I had fun here on SLS but I’m glad my run is now over; I was getting pretty tired of seeing my name week after week so I can just imagine how everyone else was feeling!

    Great post!

    1. Thank you so much Nancy…and well done on your brilliant stint as promptmystre extraordinare! You kept us on our toes.
To mind , like hype or not, I do love to see the young and talented getting a chance . The young lad from Nepal is absolutely amazing… They all are bless them. That’s why I am such a huge fan of Sam Ryder…. He made his name from nothing on TicTok.
So yes for me the big stars don’t need any plugging but the young up and coming talent are for me every time 💜 💜

  5. You know, I usually catch the top American Idol contestants from shares on Facebook. Not a single one of these have I ever seen! Too funny….

  6. I watched AI from the first, but the last few I had not seen, so all these were new to me. I enjoyed each one very much. So much talent, and I’m glad they are getting their dream chance to sing for people. Wonderful presentation of these. 🙂
