24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry Challenge, No. 35, 5/21/24,

This week for Colleen Chesebro’s #TankaTuesday we’re in the second week of the season of Fine Weather: May 20 – June 5, as we follow the 24 Seasons of Japan. The dates are based off of the lunisolar calendar, often called an agricultural calendar. The traditional Chinese and Japanese lunisolar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms.

Colleen showed us a lovely photo of her home so I thought I would do the same.

How does this time of year affect you where you live? Think about the seasonal changes. What descriptive words come to mind? If they work to define the season you’re in, add them to your kigo list.

******

Do you see those blue skies and the warm glow in my photo 🌟 that was yesterday and the temperature was in the twenties! Today it’s dull and cold and my jumpers are back out of the wardrobe as the T-shirts are back in the drawer.

The Northern lights are back again this week but I look forward them in vain so far. This is a very strange spring/ summer transition nothing feels right, the lights in the night skies that never come this far south the weather swings…. The garden is so confused as are the birds and the animals! This is a new season, the season of flux.

So I have decided to write a double Etheree. My Kigo words/Phrases are are “yesterday was summer” “Spring season ” “weeds in the lawn” “Nature’s joke” “Man’s hand” “Solar storms”

********

Confusion.

In the dark looking for the northern lights
Temperature dropping like a stone
Sinking into the deep abbyss.
The new dawn will soon be here
Yesterday was summer
Today who can tell
It could be Spring
Season’s play
With us
All.
Weeds in the lawn thriving but that’s okay.
The squirrel and birds work together
To empty the feeder quickly
Never sure what time of year
They are at, Nature’s joke
Or has man a hand
In the weather
Maybe it’s
Solar
Storms

Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

  1. A beautiful poem sis. Love the picture of your home. Our weather has turned very hot so all those memories of spring are gone.

  2. You have an awesome home Willow. I would be walking around it, inside and out, all the time admiring it. Then I would have to do double time dusting and vacuuming to make up for the time I spent lollygagging!

    Your poems are spot on.

It got hot and then humid here yesterday. Today promises to be hotter. I can’t believe I’m in shorts. Yesterday it was still sweatpants.

    1. Ginger I love the word lollygagging it’s a person word!! The weather is playing with us I just hope it’s not all our fault…. I am all wrapped up again. If you ever get to England you would be so welcome to go lollygagging in our house 💜💜

      1. Awww, that is so sweet of you Willow. If I ever had that opportunity, I would definitely come and lollygag all over your house. I would lollygag so much it might make you just gag…..no lolly! Lol!

  3. It was strange travelling to the Cornish coast today. We left home in hot and humid weather, with hardly a cloud in the sky.
We got half-way and it started to rain. It wasn’t heavy but it was a surprise to see it. Then it stopped and returned to blue sky. My oh, my.

  4. Excellent, Willow-Sis! I didn’t know your weather was going so crazy! We jumped straight into summer! Our temperatures this week are in the 80’s F. That’s warm!! Great job! 👏🏻 💗

    1. Thank you Colleen it’s been really mad her so warm yesterday shorts and t-shirts. Now the temperature is dropping and the rain is back! 💜💜

  5. A lovely double Etheree, Willow, and your home is beautiful. I think summer has finally arrived where I live. It seems we had 4 seasons in one day for a longer time than usual. I love your lines and it seems we never know what’s coming our way.

    “Nature’s joke

    1. Thank you Eugi I am glad that your weather is settling ours is still all over the place. You have picked my favourite part of the Etheree. Let’s hope summer decides to sort herself out 😁💜💜💜

  6. Lovely photo, and an equally lovely poem, Willow.

Our weather is heading toward summer. It’s been in the 80s and will hit 90°f (32°c) by the end of this week.

  7. This is lovely Willow. The weather is all over the place…. all over the place!!

I haven’t been able to get any Northern Lights, either. We are in a warm spot since last Thursday. It’s been great! (Well.. since we like to complain, it’s been quite hot!)

  8. well at least you have the far chance of glancing the lights. If or not they show, you are right there. Thats tremendous.

  9. I missed the lights too ….. I fell asleep and they were right overhead, disappointed ….

    1. Yes they were above us too …. But we missed them and that’s that …. Weather it’s really having a laugh today it’s 21c and feels it tonight it will be 11c and showers …. tomorrow, it will be 18c but feel like 11c and be rain a d thunder and lightning??? Hope you are faring better 💜💜💜

  10. Hi Willow, I loved your double etheree. I spoke about the season playing pranks, too! But your weather seems extreme- cold one day and warm the next. You explained it beautifully in verse.
The picture of your house in the sunshine and the flowers in the front porch, is lovely.
I hope you get to see the Northern Lights :). XXX

    1. Hi Smitha thank you for your lovely words. Our weather has been mad and still is yesterday it was hot, sunny and dry, today it sunshine, rain and thunder storms and chillier 😳. The picture is of the back of our house taken from our pergola 💜😃😃

      1. Yikes. It does sound crazy. We are experiencing a cyclone today. Started last evening and is to last until tomorrow. The wind is howling and the glass in the French windows are rattling.
Well, the back of your house is beautiful 🙂
