This week Colleen has sent us a photo prompt she said: “This week’s challenge is a photo prompt. This year, I’ve asked my friend, and photographer, Terri Webster Schrandt, from secondwindleisure.com to share her photos with us for inspiration. Terri runs a weekly photo challenge called Sunday Stills. Check it out HERE. “
Terri says: “This is a photo of Nine Mile Falls, after which our little community is named. I captured this last March when the water district let out the water of the Spokane River to create Lake Spokane. When you drive by, the mist from the falls hits the windshield enough to use the wiper blades. In certain light, it really looks this green.”
🍀 Write your poem using the photo as your inspiration. 🍀
I have chosen to try a pantoum this week. I have used verdure and lushly for green, but the photo suggested pure to me.
The pantoum consists of a series of quatrains rhyming, abab, in which the second and fourth lines of a quatrain recur as the first and third lines in the succeeding quatrain; each quatrain introduces a new second rhyme, as bcbc, cdcd. The last line of a pantoum is often the same as the first.
Pure
Water spirits so alive and pure Dancing in such glory Mingle with the verdure Between them they tell the story
Dancing in such glory Earth and water lushly combine Between them they tell the story The mix is spiritual and divine
Earth and water lushly combine An offering to Nature The mix is spiritual and divine. Two elementals true and sure
An offering to Nature Spirit mists kiss as before Two elements true and sure Water spirits so alive and pure
Welcome to a new year of writing syllabic poetry. Please read the rules, updated for the new year,2023 HERE.
Back by popular demand, our first poetry challenge of 2023 from Colleen Chesebro is to write your poem by selecting synonyms for the two words below. Do not use the two words—synonyms only.
This week I have chosen to write a Tanka.
New & Experience.
A novel feeling An encounter with nature Never before felt Completely out of the blue To be one with the ocean.
It is so lovely to have you back Colleen, to feel the warmth of our poetic family once more, here’s to 2023.💜💜💜💜
It’s Saturday and yesterday Linda dropped in with her prompt for our Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday which is “clear.” Linda said “Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!”
Crystal clear water flows fast, reflecting gentle rainbow colours. Foolishly we step in, suddenly feeling the strong undertow Clear and present danger strikes fear in our hearts, clear waters deep.
Today, is Tuesday and I am sitting in my conservatory, the warmest place in our house. I am thinking about what to write. Then this popped up on my email box.
WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!
Are you ready for a theme prompt? Donna Matthews from last month’s challenge picked the theme:
This month’s theme is:
🔥 FIRE & 💦 WATER.
My choice of syllabic poetry this week are a Tanka and an Haiku. I have chosen not to use the prompt words but have hinted at the with synonyms .

If you want to guess where this is, feel free. I might even let you know if you are right.
Now I know this post is called Wordless Wednesday but let’s face it, it is Saturday and I am so behind so I am going to say a little.
I took this photo in my sister-in-law’s garden and I am delighted to see the reflection of the sky and her garden in the glass fountain. 🌹💜
