It had been six weeks since the invasion.Dan had been living on his wits traveling by night hiding by day. He had been on his own since day nine. He had seen the factory from the road and decided to camp there a while. It was about 2am when the beam struck. He could hide no more.
“Come on, we’re late! Cutting across the cemetery will save twenty minutes. I know it’s almost dark but I am more afraid of Mum than the dead.” James said jumping over the wall. “No” shouted Paul. James was home in 15 mins. Paul however was never seen again.
He’d noticed the numbers, they all had. It had been an annoyance at first. Days passed and it diminished. No one in the office mentioned it yet they all had spotted it. One by one the numbers on the screens reached 00. One by one the programmers disappeared. Where had they gone.
“It looks great in the hall.” “Where’d you find it?” “The attic.” “I’m not sure it looks a tad worn.” “Nothing a good polish won’t fix.” “Umm, really?” “Look a rub here, a rub there and it will shine like new!” “Let’s get some coffee.”
As Will and Ed walked off the knocking started.
