Song Lyric Sunday: May 10, 2020 – Couple/Together/Us.

Last Sunday was not a good day and I did not get round to posting a Song Lyric Sunday. This week I intend to do my best to post one. So here we are for Jim Adams Song Lyric Sunday. This week’s prompt prompt is : May 10, 2020 – Couple/Together/Us.

Well my first choice for this prompt is Regina Spektor and her song US.

Regina Ilyinichna Spektor born February 18, 1980)[1] is a Russian-born American singer, songwriter, and pianist. More information here.

Us” is the fifth track from American singer Regina Spektor‘s major label debut Soviet Kitsch. It was officially released as a single in 2006 for her UK compilation album Mary Ann Meets the Gravediggers and Other Short Stories by Regina Spektor. The song is notable for its use of a string quartet in addition to Spektor’s usual piano and vocals. The song was also used in a UEFA Champions League Final montage, by ITV. Also this song was used in the film (500) Days of Summer. As of 2009 the single has sold 86,000 copies in United States. Information from here.

Now let’s go way back to 1967. “Happy Together” is a song by American rock band the Turtles from their third studio album Happy Together (1967). The song was written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon, arranged by Chip Douglas, and produced by Joe Wissert. More information here.

*****

We’re a Couple of Swells” is an comedy duet song performed by Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in the film Easter Parade (1948). It was written by Irving Berlin. Berlin originally wrote the song Let’s Take an Old-Fashioned Walk for the scene but the film’s producer, Arthur Freed, convinced Berlin to change this for a song that would highlight Garland’s comedic talent. Berlin wrote the song in about an hour drawing on his experience as a Tin Pan Alley popular songwriter. More information here

Happy Sunday every one be safe.

Thursday photo prompt: Together #writephoto

This is my contribution to Sue Vincent’s #writephoto. Together.

For visually challenged writers, the image shows the sun painting a golden pathway across the sands and sea

All was silent and quiet no movement on the horizon. Just the golden path that lead from her feet to the setting sun. The waves gentle washed the beach shifting age old sands as it had always done. Looking left and right she saw just sea and beach, perfect she thought.

The warmth of the sun touched her, a feeling she had always enjoyed. Bending she scooped up some shells from the beach and marvelled at their beauty, their perfect shapes and gentle colours.

Peace filled her being this was how it was in the beginning, before they came, before they tried to kill her, and almost succeeded.

Smiling she thought of all the havoc they had reeked all the greed and mistakes. She had given them warnings and ultimatums finally for all their technology she had beaten them with a tiny invisible microbe. They had caused it, through greed and cruelty, to cross species and attack them. Now for all they thought they were they were gone.

Those few that survived? She had high hopes for them. Hopefully they had learnt their lesson well. They would learn to share her world.

A voice desturbed her thoughts, it was him, calling to her. Gia lifted her hands to the sky and walked towards the sun , gentle waves under feet. The gentle voice said “I thought only I could do that” Gia smiled as she went to meet the Maker. They smiled and said as one ” Perhaps they will get it right this time “
