Today December 29, 2019, Our host on Song Lyric Sunday,Jim Adams has given us the prompt – Crazy.
I have chosen the song Crazy” written by English singer, Seal, and British songwriter, Guy Sigsworth. The song was produced by Trevor Horn for Seal’s debut album Seal (1991). Released as his official debut single, “Crazy” became one of Seal’s biggest hits. It reached the top five in the United Kingdom, while becoming his first top ten single in the United States. It has since been covered by several artists, including Alanis Morissette, whose version was released as a single from her album The Collection (2005). More info here.
I have included the Seal version with the lyrics .
I love the Seal version very much but by far my favourite version of this song is by Alanis Morissette.
A little snippet of information Guy Sigsworth and my favourite singer songwriter composer worked together in a group called Frou, Frou.
I can’t do a post about Crazy without including I’m going slightly mad . By Queen . From the same year 1991 from the Queen Inuendo Album. Such a sad song about Freddie’s mental decline as his struggle with aids progressed.
Jim Adams said that our prompt for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday is Baby. He said: “I am sure that it will be easy to find a song for this week’s prompt being Baby. We are all here to have some more fun and listen to some enjoyable music. “
This week I have chosen my favourite singer songwriter Imogen Heap’s song Tiny Human. Imogen wrote this song about her feelings after the birth of her first child. She explains that :
“You know, everyone talks about how when you see your baby it’s immediate love, and it really wasn’t like that for me. It was awful and I felt so guilty about it. On top of that, she wouldn’t stop crying and there was nothing I could do. My partner and I just did not know what hit us,”
In the song, Imogen compares the birth of her daughter to the volcano that engulfed the ancient Roman city of Pompeii and herself to the city as it is awakens to a new day:
“You came crashing in on one day/Crazy beautiful you/Blind me like the dawn/After ashes fell on Pompeii…From the ashes of Pompeii to fireworks and champagne/Crazy beautiful you.”
In a blog post, Imogen explained the title of the song, “Tiny Human,” writing: “That’s what she is, somewhere in there beneath all that crying, a person, waiting to blossom and surprise us over the years time and time again.”
As much as 10% of new mothers are likely to experience post-partum depression, according to a report released in January by the US Preventive Services Task Force, which recommended for the first time that all pregnant women and new mothers be screened.
The anxiety and sleeplessness of caring for a new life in addition to hormone fluctuations after giving birth can lead to feeling the way Heap did as a new mother. Post-partum depression, like miscarriage, is more common than women often think but seldom discussed because of feelings of shame. Heap’s admission and lyrics are a powerful statement that becoming a mother is hard and that’s okay. Information here.
I can completely identify with how she felt. Not all women find motherhood easy intact many can be severely depressed or affected. I think she was very brave to share her feelings. I hope this song can help any new mum who is struggling to cope and needs help.
“Tiny Human”
Oh my tiny human At 05:08 you break me apart again The space-time continuum Buckles and bends around your every twist and turn
I can barely remember life before You came crashing in on one day Crazy beautiful you Blind me like the dawn After ashes fell on Pompeii Crazy beautiful you
A miracle, a mystery And one short stop away From joy to misery When the night becomes day I give you my every last ounce You make a pin-cushion out of me And you can thank me later, babe (if I’m alive) How long can one live without sleep?
Still I can’t stand to imagine Life without… You came crashing in on one day Crazy beautiful you Blind me like the dawn After ashes fell on Pompeii Crazy bright beautiful you
Suddenly propelled So many light years from bliss And completely unprepared How can anyone deserve this? I’ve tried, I’ve tried all the tricks in the book, I’m at my wits end Now look here what do you want from me!?
I can barely remember life before… You came crashing in on one day Crazy beautiful you From the ashes of Pompeii To fireworks and champagne Crazy beautiful you
You little devil, you Oh I love you so much It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done But you’re so worth it Yes you are Yes you are You little devil, you
This week Jim Adams has set us the prompt Lost/ Found /Hide/ Seek. For our Song Lyric Sunday.
The first song that came to mind was Hide and Seek from Imogen Heap. Imogen Heap is an English singer songwriter who I have loved since my youngest son introduced her music to me in 1998 a year before I broke my back for the first time.
Now I was always taken by her amazing lyrics but what also strikes me about Immie is that not only can she write her own lyrics and music she can also play most instruments from brass , woodwind, strings, piano and drums. She used to dash about on stage using different keyboards, computers and instruments until she cleverly came up with her Mi.Mu gloves explained here.
Well now to the song I chose Hide and Seek. It was released in 2009. Why did I pick this particular song? Well that year I broke my back a second time, I actually smashed it to pieces and ended having three ops and being in hospital over a month. Imogen and her music got me through this time, the long nights the scary days and the threats of a wheelchair. When I came out of hospital I still had to learn to walk again and Immie’s music on my iPod shuffle got me through that time.
In fact I even emailed her and told her how much she had helped me. She sent me back a lovely email, sadly over the years I lost that email 😟
Right I have rambled on enough here is a song that means a lot to me. Here is a live version from her early days
From their Hail To the Thief Album 2003. I thought two out of three prompts is not bad!
Sit Down, Stand Up”
Sit down, stand up
Sit down, stand up
Walk into the jaws of hell (sit down, stand up)
Walk into the jaws of hell (sit down, stand up)
Anytime (sit down)
Anytime (stand up)
Sit down, stand up
Sit down, stand up
We can wipe you out anytime (sit down, stand up)
We can wipe you out (sit down, stand up)
Anytime (sit down)
Anytime
Stand up (the rain drops the rain drops)
Sit down (the rain drops the rain drops)
Oh
The rain drops [x46] yes that does say times forty six!
As much as I love Radiohead the James song always does it for me as miserable as it is it make me want to dance, I am dancing in my head come join me 💜
This week Jim Adams at Newepiauthor has given us the prompt :Bus/Truck/Lorry. For Song Lyric Sunday.
I chose The Magic Bus by The Who. It was written by Pete Townshend and released in 1968. I had left school that year and was training as a window dresser. In a boutique called Birds, honestly it was called Birds and in was in West Ealing , West London.
The Who were a West London group and so my friends and I were big fans….. Fun days.
This week Jim Adams at Newepiauthor has set us the prompt of Trains for our Song Lyric Sunday.
So I have chose Mathew and Son by the then Cat Stevens. It a brilliant song about life and it’s treadmill. It mentions the 8.30 train so I think it fits the bill.
Hi it’s Sunday again and time once more for Song Lyric Sunday. Our host Jim Adams has set us the prompt of: Bird/Fly/Sky/Wing.
My first thought was Gorge Harrison, my favourite Beatle taking the lead with his song Blue Jay Way. I do believe that is where he stayed for a while in the Hollywood Hills.
“Blue Jay Way”
Written by George Harrison.
There’s a fog upon L.A.,
And my friends have lost their way.
“We’ll be over soon,” they said.
Now they’ve lost themselves instead
Please don’t be long
Please don’t you be very long
Please don’t be long for I may be asleep
Well, it only goes to show
And I told them where to go
Ask a policeman on the street
There’s so many there to meet
Please don’t be long
Please don’t you be very long
Please don’t be long for I may be asleep
Now it’s past my bed I know
And I’d really like to go
Soon will be the break of day
Sitting here in Blue Jay Way
Please don’t be long
Please don’t you be very long
Please don’t be long for I may be asleep
Please don’t be long
Please don’t you be very long
Please don’t be long
Please don’t be long
Please don’t you be very long
Please don’t be long
Please don’t be long
Please don’t you be very long
Please don’t be long
Don’t be long, don’t be long, don’t be long
Don’t be long, don’t be long, don’t be long Lyrics from A to Z Lyrics
This week for #songlyricsunday our host Jim Adams of Newepiauthor said: “Choose a song with the name of another group or singer in the Lyrics.”
My first song choice is Electric Trains from UK Group Squeeze. In mentions Julie Andrews, actress and singer and Jerry Garcia lead guitarist and songwriter from the Grateful Dead. There is even a nod to Bill Hayley and Rock around the Clock.
Electric Trains
When I was crowned a mama’s boy by friends I didn’t like I made a meal of trips to school upon my father’s bike I used to sit between his legs perched on a piece of wood And if it ever rained on us, I’d slip beneath his hood And at home, the radio was on From Julie Andrews (Out of my head) To Jerry Garcia (Playing the Dead) Life was all fun and games (Fun and games) (Out of my head) I was out of my head (Under the bed) And underneath my bed (Playing the Dead) Playing with electric trains (Electric trains) At home the stereo was on My head was filled with rock I played a willow cricket bat guitar And soloed round the clock My records stacked up in a pile Collected from the charts and the Top of The Pops From Julie Andrews (Out of my head) To Jerry Garcia (Playing the Dead) Life was all fun and games (Fun and games) (Out of my head) I was out of my head (Under the bed) And underneath my bed (Playing the Dead) Playing with electric trains (Electric trains) Kneeling with torchlight shining before me In bed with my eyeballs stuck in readers’ wives Pubic hairs proudly counted every day Many took their story out into the Milky Way I chased the girls and made them cry, my hair grew down my back The passing of my teenage years were spent down in the sack I played guitar and formed a band, I puked up all night long As people came to sit and stare while I raced through my songs The Sound of Music passed me by Just like the Grateful Dead From Julie Andrews (Out of my head) To Jerry Garcia (Playing the Dead) Life was all fun and games (Fun and games) (Out of my head) I was out of my head (Under the bed) And underneath my bed (Playing the Dead) Playing with electric trains (Electric trains) Oh, electric trains (Out of my head) (Under the bed) (Playing the Dead) (Out of my head) (Under the bed) (Playing the Dead) (Out of my head)
It’s Sunday again and Jim Adams of NewEpicAuthor said : “The Song Lyric Sunday theme for this week to be a song that includes somebody famous in it.”
Well the first song that comes to mind is the wonderful history lesson We didn’t start the fire by Billy Joel. It is a virtual how’s how and what happened then of modern history. I think more than one person will choose this brilliant song.
