Song Lyric Sunday 11/2/18

This week Helen Vahdati, in conjunction with Simply Marquessa have said that songs about Telephone Calls are the Challenge for Song Lyric Sunday.

There are happy songs, sad songs, funny songs about Telephone calls. Songs about, people who have moved, people who have died!

Well I have chosen one about the frustrations that being apart and needing to talk can bring. This song Telemiscommunications. By Deadmaus5 and Imogen Heap explains brilliantly the stress and frustration of trying to use your mobile, long distance. We all been there haven’t we, we keep ringing then when we finally get through we get called away, or there is a loud noise, music, traffic or you are interupted by someone asking you directions or a question. It is so frustrating, it makes you want to scream. Then just when you feel so low you want to smash your phone up , you get a reassuring message, ” have I told you I love you today? xxxx)

This song was a collaboration between Imogen Heap and Deadmaus5.

“Telemiscommunications”
(with Imogen Heap)

Hey babe, how’s your day been?
No, you first..
Oh.. what? The delay’s quite bad
Yeah, sorry..
Where are you, I can’t really hear you
A taxi, distracted..
Anyway you.. You were saying?
Wait, uh..
Now they’re waving me over
Can I call you back?
Yeah, everything’s fine
Why am I.. I don’t know why
I probably just need sleep
It’s been a busy week
Sorry, I’ve got to go
So, ok.. bye

This is just so unlike us
Cut back to horizontalisms
If we could win just one small touch
Contact versus tele-miscommunications

Plan foiled
The sirens pass by
Kids screaming
The longest public announcement
Reach check-in, finally got through
Running for a flight, shoes off
You’re calling voicemail
In joke, group laughter
Closing scenes in a meeting
Angel (angel) why didn’t you tell me?
One second, someone needs directions
Can’t you see I’m on the phone?

This is just so unlike us
Cut back to horizontalisms
If we could win just one small touch
Contact versus tele-miscommunications

So unlike us (unlike us)
Cut back to horizontalisms
If we could win just one small touch
Contact versus tele-miscommunications

Did I tell you I loved you today?
Did I tell you I loved you today?
(kiss kiss)
Did I tell you I loved you today?
Did I tell you I loved you today?
Did I tell you I loved you today?
Did I tell you I loved you today?
(kiss kiss)
Did I tell you I loved you today?
Did I tell you I loved you today

Song Lyric Sunday 4/2/18 Truth.

This week Helen Vahdati in conjunction with Simply Marquessa has set us a searching prompt for our Song Lyric Sunday. So this week’s prompt is Truth.. that’s a thorny one.

Well I have decided to go along the lines of couples in relationships that are either dead or dying and need truth and honesty!

Rules and Pingback Here

First up Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel. With a song about a couple who have stopped talking and settled into a regime of existing and avoiding the truth. So very sad, so very common, so very true. It’s called another day

Another Day

The kettle’s on, the sun has gone

She offers me tibetan tea on a flower tray
She’s at the door, she wants to score
She dearly needs to to say
I loved you a long time ago
Where the winds own forget me nots blow
But I just couldn’t let myself go
Not knowing what on earth there was to know
But I wish that I had
‘Cos I’m feeling so sad
That I never had one of your children
And across the room inside a tomb
A change is waxed and wanes
The night is young why are we so hung up
In each others chains
I must make her, I must take her
While the dove domains
And feel the juice run as she flies
Run my winds under her sighs
As the flames of eternity rise
To lick us with the first-born lash of dawn
Oh really my dear
I can’t see what we fear
Sat here with ourselves in between us
And at the door we can’t say more
Than just another day
And without a sound I turn around
And I walk away

Lyric from Here

Next is China by Tori Amos . Very similar to the Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel song. Another couple who need to talk to each other and tell the truth. This is another very sad song. The Lyrics are in the video. China by Tori Amos

Right we have had all this sadness and unspoken truth in the two songs above. Let’s move on to something a little more hopeful a song about being honest, speaking the truth and moving on. Guess who it is by, yes indeed my favourite singer songwriter Imogen Heap. This song is about the end of a long term relationship that was truly dead the honesty and truth in the words are refreshing.

“Run-Time”

Sparks might fly, in no time.
It’s a delayed reaction of the third kind. (ooh)
I’m so ready for this.
Shrink-wrapped tones, I can face the music.
Stop matters bonding us way beyond
Our best by-days.

You know we’ve had it good, we’ve had it bad, so no hard feelings.
We’ve done all we could and all again. I’m done pretending.
Let’s quit while we’re still friends.

Making up stories that grew to be too tall,
My fortress to forget couldn’t take anymore.
You nearly watched me ruin everything, everything!
There’s a number one rule of don’t-do’s.
Well we knew it all too well.
You were supposed to be looking out for me!
Have you any idea how difficult it’s been?

You know we’ve had it good, we’ve had it bad, so no hard feelings.
We’ve done all we could, and all again. Let’s save ourselves a sorry ending.
You know we’ve had it good, we’ve had it bad, but this is as far as we can stretch.
Let’s stop pretending, stop pretending.
And quit while we’re still friends
[x2]

Well I was so young, misguided maybe.
But still this hands over my every pen to paper.
And this all started with a song.
Let this be our last one.
Drop, drop. Bridge, bridge!

We’ve had it good, we’ve had it bad, but this is as far as we can stretch.
Stop pretending!
And quit while we’re still friends.

I wish you well.
I wish you well… (I wish you well, wish you well, wish you well)

Wish you well, I wish you well, I won’t tell if you won’t tell.
I won’t hold it against you if you bow out gracefully. (gracefully)
Can we just not drag this out, please?
I wish you well, I wish you well, I won’t tell if you won’t tell.
I won’t hold it against you if you bow out gracefully, (do it gracefully!)
Can we just not drag this out

Just to say Imogen did finish her relationship, eventually met her now husband, best friend and father to their child 💞 which goes to prove Truth is key.

Song Lyric Sunday. Comfort.

This week’s prompt from Helen Vahdati linked with Simply Marquessa for song lyrics Sunday is Comfort.

Well there is no question about which song to choose, well not for me there isn’t. The song is, Mother Stands for Comfort, by Kate Bush from the album The Line The Cross and the Curve based on the story of the Ballet Shoes by Hans Christian Andersen

Mother Stands For Comfort”

She knows that I’ve been doing something wrong,
But she won’t say anything.
She thinks that I was with my friends yesterday,
But she won’t mind me lying,
Because

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.

It breaks the cage, and fear escapes and takes possession,
Just like a crowd rioting inside.
(Make me do this, make me do that, make me do this, make me do that…)
Am I the cat that takes the bird?
To her the hunted, not the hunter.

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.
Mother hides the madman.
Mother will stay mum.

Mother stands for comfort.
Mother will hide the murderer.
Mother hides the madman.
Mother will stay mum.

Song Lyric Sunday. Apologies.

This is part of Song Lyric Sunday devised by Helen Vahdati. This week her choice in conjunction with Simply Marquessa.

The theme is Apologies.

The song I have picked is by Evanescence

Lyrics below from AtoZ Lyrics.

“Forgive Me”

Can you forgive me again?
I don’t know what I said
But I didn’t mean to hurt you

I heard the words come out
I felt that I would die
It hurt so much to hurt you

Then you look at me
You’re not shouting anymore
You’re silently broken

I’d give anything now
to kill those words for you

Each time I say something I regret I cry “I don’t want to lose you.”
But somehow I know that you will never leave me, yeah.

‘Cause you were made for me
Somehow I’ll make you see
How happy you make me

I can’t live this life
Without you by my side
I need you to survive

So stay with me
You look in my eyes and I’m screaming inside that I’m sorry.

And you forgive me again
You’re my one true friend
And I never meant to hurt you

Song Lyric Sunday. fire

This week HelenVahdati and Simply Marquessa combine for Song Lyric Sunday. The theme is Fire.

I know I am very late with entrty, please forgive me! I have been busy and now I am sunning myself on a cheeky holiday.

Late or not I do love this song it is by Bat for lashes and it is called Daniel.

A spooky song with an equally Spooky video.

Rules and Pingback Here

“Daniel”

Daniel, when I first saw you
I knew that you had a flame in your heart
And under wild blue skies
Marble movie skies
I found a home in your eyes
We’ll never be apart

And when the fires came
The smell of cinders and rain
Perfumed almost everything
We laughed and laughed and laughed

And in the golden blue
Crying took me to
The darkest place you knew
And set fire to my heart

When I run in the dark, Daniel
To a place that’s vast, Daniel
Under a sheet of rain in my heart, Daniel
I dream of home

But in a goodbye bed
With my arms around your neck
Into our mouths the tears crept
Just kids in the eye of the storm

And as my house spun round
My dreams pulled me from the ground
Forever to search for the flame
For home again
For home again

When I run in the dark, Daniel
Into a place that’s vast, Daniel
Under a sheet of rain in my heart, Daniel
I dream of home

When I run in the dark, Daniel
Into a place that’s vast, Daniel
Under a sheet of rain in my heart, Daniel
I dream of home

Song Lyric Sunday. Parties/ Partying.

This is my entry  for Song Lyric Sunday Challenge. This week Helen Vahdati  using the prompt from Simply Marquessa which is Girl, you better have your hair weave strapped on tight…” from the song, Chunky by Bruno

Helen chose to prompt us to find songs about parties and partying!

Song number one is “I got a feeling” by the Black Eyes Peas.  I feel it shows the darker side of the youth culture, all about the booze culture. The video is really raunchy but I love it and I love the song too.

“I Gotta Feelin'”

[4x]
I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good, good night

Tonight’s the night
Let’s live it up
I got my money
Let’s spend it up

Go out and smash it
Like Oh My God
Jump off that sofa
Let’s get get off

I know that we’ll have a ball
If we get down
And go out
And just lose it all

I feel stressed out
I wanna let it go
Lets go way out spaced out
And losing all control

Fill up my cup
Mazel Tov
Look at her dancing
Just take it off

Let’s paint the town
We’ll shut it down
Let’s burn the roof
And then we’ll do it again

Let’s do it, let’s do it,
Let’s do it,
Let’s do it, and do it, and do it,
Let’s live it up
And do it, and do it, and do it, do it, do it,
Let’s do it,
Let’s do it,
Let’s do it

‘Cause…

[2x]
I gotta feeling (ooooo hoooo) that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good, good night

Tonight’s the night (hey!)
Let’s live it up (let’s live it up)
I got my money (I’m paid)
Let’s spend it up (let’s spend it up)

Go out and smash it (smash it)
Like Oh My God (like Oh My God)
Jump off that sofa (c’mon)
Let’s get get off

Fill up my cup (drink)
Mazel Tov (l’chaim)
Look at her dancing (move it, move it)
Just take it off

Let’s paint the town (paint the town)
We’ll shut it down (shut it down)
Let’s burn the roof
And then we’ll do it again

Let’s do it, let’s do it,
Let’s do it,
Let’s do it, and do it, and do it,
Let’s live it up
And do it, and do it, and do it, do it, do it,
Let’s do it,
Let’s do it,
Let’s do it, do it, do it, do it

Here we come
Here we go
We gotta rock (rock, rock, rock, rock)

Easy come
Easy go
Now we on top (top, top, top, top)

Feel the shot
Body rock
Rock it don’t stop (stop, stop, stop, stop)

Round and round
Up and down
Around the clock (clock, clock, clock, clock)

Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday
Friday, Saturday
Saturday to Sunday

Get get get get get with us
You know what we say
Party every day
Pa pa pa party every day

And I’m feeling (ooooo hoooo)
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good good night

I gotta feeling (oooooo hoooo) that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good good night

Ooooooo hooooo

The second song is from Sia  another set of very dark lyrics. Sadness, pain, guilt and the need to escape… Then the shame and the come down!

“Chandelier”

Party girls don’t get hurt
Can’t feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down

I’m the one “for a good time call”
Phone’s blowin’ up, ringin’ my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love

1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink

Throw ’em back, till I lose count

I’m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
I’m gonna live like tomorrow doesn’t exist
Like it doesn’t exist
I’m gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry
I’m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier

But I’m holding on for dear life, won’t look down, won’t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, ’cause I’m just holding on for tonight
Help me, I’m holding on for dear life, won’t look down, won’t open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, ’cause I’m just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

Sun is up, I’m a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame

1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 drink

Throw ’em back till I lose count

On for tonight
‘Cause I’m just holding on for tonight
Oh, I’m just holding on for tonight
On for tonight
On for tonight
‘Cause I’m just holding on for tonight
‘Cause I’m just holding on for tonight
Oh, I’m just holding on for tonight
On for tonight

Song Lyric Sunday. Peace. 22/10/17

This week Helen Vahdati has chosen Peace as the prompt for Song Lyric Sunday.

Rules and Pingback Here

I have decided to post  Peace in the valley by The Alabama 3. The song is about what drugs do to you, a lot of their songs are. This one says to me that there comes a point in an addicts life when death is the only way that they can get peace. This is an honest, sad but to the point song. The words are raw I warn now.

My eldest son introduced me to the Alabama 3. some years ago and I am now a firm fan. Alabama 3 despite their name, style, accents and looks are lads from Brixton London! Read about them here.

For the video I have picked the slower version so you can hear the words.

For whatever reason you refuse to feel this space we’re in

To know it’s insanity, really know it
Whatever your particular anaesthetic is, that you hold onto so desperately
The thing I mean that makes you think you know who you are
Whatever that thing is that you allow to keep you sane
Your ace in your hole
The psyche that keeps you from trying to guess what your pimp has in store for you
Whatever keeps you from screaming out at this very moment in absolute and sheer horror
Whatever you fuck your brain with, whatever that is
Whatever that is
It’s a lie
It’s a lie. “

She spends too much time with herself every night
Just fooling around with her fears
In the morning she mourns the decline of her mind
Drowning in a bottle of beer
It’s too dangerous just to think about what she might have been
If she’d sung for salvation, if she’d danced on her dreams

But there’s gonna be peace in the valley tomorrow
Cause tonight she’s gonna blow it all away
Lord, she feels so twisted, She ain’t ever gonna fix it
She’s just waiting for the light to shine on a brand new day

An’ he don’t know if he’s a communist, a hedonist or a whore
Spent too much time ridin’ on a white line to find the door
An’ if he did and he opened it, he’d find those letters in the hall
But he’s too blind to read between the lines  Cos’ the writings on the wall

There’s gonna be peace in the valley tomorrow
Cause tonight he’s gonna blow it all away
Lord, he feels so twisted, he ain’t ever gonna fix it
He’s just waiting for the light to shine on a brand new day

(Let that light shine awhile

Grand old oprie lights are on, Hank Williams on the juke box, we all comin’ home tonight

I’ll tell you dear…)

I got Ecstasy, but I need some company
You got that mystery; Lord I need a plan
All I got is a compromise and a bag full of alibis
Lord, as empty as the bottle of whiskey in my shaking hands

There’s gonna be peace in the valley tomorrow
Cause tonight we’re gonna blow it all away
Lord we feel so twisted, we ain’t ever gonna fix it
We’re just waiting for the light to shine on a brand new day

(One more time for the people)

There’s gonna be peace in the valley tomorrow
Cause tonight, we’re gonna blow it all away
You know we feel so fuckin’ twisted, we ain’t ever gonna fix it
We’re just waiting for the light to shine on a brand new day. (x3)

Rules and Pingback Here

This week the theme is Breath / Breathing.

Here are four of my favourite songs about Breath and Breathing.  Firstly Midge Ure, Breath words in video.

Secondly My Fave Imogen Heap with Breath in.

“Breathe In” lyrics from AToZ

I – read you – and god i’m good at it – i’m so spot on
Chord – shapes in air – go press that dissonance – if you dare
And you – breathing in – finesse an innocent
From her partying

And i’m high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
And i’m high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
Cause i love you no?
Can’t help but love, you know…

What – part of no – don’t you understand – i’ve told you before
To just get – off my case – this isn’t happening – stop this now
And i – where was i? – i have to be somewhere
Now where did i put it?

And i’m high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
And i’m high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
Cause i love you no?
Can’t help but love you, no…

Is this it – is this it – is this it?

Yes – hello we’re back – and we’re taking calls
Now what was the question?

And i’m high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
And i’m high enough from all the waiting
To ride a wave on your inhaling
Cause i love you no?
Can’t help but love you, no…

Thirdly Sia Furler with Breath Me so sad.

Breathe Me” lyrics AtoZ

Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And the worst part is there’s no one else to blame

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah, I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Lastly Queen, You take my breath away. Lyrics in the video.
