The Cow – Image by KL Caley

Purity had escaped again, out the field across the road and down to the river’s edge!
As she crossed the stones she thought to herself how sharp they were, how good the flowing water smelled and Oh! how good it was going to taste.
Arriving at the water’s edge she dipped her head into the water. Oh! delight.

a bid for freedom
escape from the every day
lost in solitude

Well this song by Joni Mitchell is one I love, though it is a very sad song. It makes me think of all the people who for whatever reason become disenfranchised from their friends and loved ones.

Slipping into a downward spiral they are always looking for the big brake that will set them up or get them off the drugs or the drink so they can go home. It always makes me cry, it always makes me think of the lost and the lonely at Christmas. I count my blessings and pray for those less fortunate.

Lyrics found at A to Z lyrics

River”  by Joni Mitchell

It’s coming on Christmas,
They’re cutting down trees.
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace,
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

But it don’t snow here,
Stays pretty green.
I’m gonna make a lot of money
And and then I’m gonna quit this crazy scene.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I wish I had a river so long,
I would teach my feet to fly.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I made my baby cry.

he tried hard to help me,
he put me at ease.
lord,he loved me so naughty,
made me weak in the knees.
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I’m so hard to handle,
I’m selfish and I’m sad.
Now I’ve gone and lost the best baby
That I’ve ever had.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

I wish I had a river so long,
I would teach my feet to fly.
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.
I made my baby say goodbye.

It’s coming on Christmas,
They’re cutting down trees.
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace,
I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

On the River

image

Let the river flow

The tired sun gives in
Her light diminished.
She paints a last hue
Upon the water before she is done.

Music from the vessel floats
Downstream leaving memories in its wake.
Tomorrow is another day
Where will the sun find me?
