This week Jim Adams has given us the prompt words :Around/ Down Sideways/Up. For Song Lyric Sunday post.

This week I have gone with a group I saw at the first live gig I went to. It was at the Albert Hall London. It was my thirteenth birthday and my amazing parents had arranged for a son of one of their friends to take me to the concert. He was about eighteen and must of been irritated by having to take a 13 year-old girl to a rock concert. Mind you he had the ticket and tube fare paid for, and the headliners were the Rolling Stones, and the support group was the Yardbirds. ….woo! Now my dad worked as a body maker for London Transport ( he covered and sewed the seats for buses and tube trains). Mum was a housewife looking after six children. Money was tight. I look back and I wonder how did they afford this. I can tell you I appreciated it then, I appreciate it even more now.

The Yardbirds an English rock band, formed in London in 1963. The band’s core lineup featured vocalist and harmonica player Keith Relf, drummer Jim McCarty, rhythm guitarist/bassist Chris Dreja and bassist/producer Paul Samwell-Smith. The band is known for starting the careers of three of rock’s most famous guitarists, Eric ClaptonJimmy Page and Jeff Beck, all of whom ranked in the top five of Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 greatest guitarists. The band had a string of hits throughout the mid-1960s, including “For Your Love“, “Heart Full of Soul“, “Shapes of Things” and “Over Under Sideways Down“. More information here on Wikipedia

Over Under Sideways Down” is a 1966 song by. Apparently inspired by Bill Haley and His Comets’ “Rock Around the Clock”, Jeff Beck plays both the lead guitar and bass guitar. The song was released as a single in May 1966, two months before the group’s self-titled UK album (commonly known as Roger the Engineer and Over Under Sideways Down in the US and elsewhere). More information here at Wikipedia

I really love this song not only is unique and of its age but it reminds me of the excitement and delight of being a thirteen year-old at a huge rock concert.

“Over, Under, Sideways, Down”

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Cars and girls are easy come by in this day and age,
Laughing, joking, drinking, smoking,
Till I’ve spent my wage.
When I was young people spoke of immorality,
All the things they said were wrong,
Are what I want to be.

(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
When will it end, when will it end,
When will it end, when will it end.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
I find comment ’bout my looks irrelativity,
Think I’ll go and have some fun,
‘Cos it’s all for free.
I’m not searching for a reason to enjoy myself,
Seems it’s better done,
Than argued with somebody else.

(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
(Hey)
Over under sideways down,
(Hey)
Backwards forwards square and round.
When will it end, when will it end,
When will it end, when will it end. Hey!Hey! Hey! Hey! Over under sideways down

The Yardbirds were a great springboard for Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page all three huge hero’s of mine.

Happy Days thank you Mum and Dad. You may be long gone but I love you still.

Song Lyric Sunday. 10/8/2019 Famous People.

It’s Sunday again and Jim Adams of NewEpicAuthor said : “The Song Lyric Sunday theme for this week to be a song that includes somebody famous in it.”

Well the first song that comes to mind is the wonderful history lesson We didn’t start the fire by Billy Joel. It is a virtual how’s how and what happened then of modern history. I think more than one person will choose this brilliant song.

Then there is the wonderful Rock on ,James Dean by the fabulous David Essex.

Next I have chosen Joan D’Arc by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark.

There are so many so I am just going to pick one more . Betty Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes

Oh!one more please High Flying Adored by Antonio Bandares and Madonna. From the Musical Evita which was about Eva Perón it was originally recorded by David Essex and Elaine Paige.

And the David Essex and Elaine Paige one .

Okay okay I am being greedy I will stop now. 💜💜💜

I hope you enjoy this I certainly did 💜💜💜

Song Lyric Sunday. 30th June.

This week’s prompt from Jim Adams of NewEpicAuthor is Who/What/When/Where/Why/How.

Well I thought firstly what about Who , what, when, where by Manhattan Transfer. From 1978, it ticks all the boxes, well almost bar two.

Lyrics from A to Z Lyrics

Who, What, When, Where, Why”

Who (who ooh ooh ooh ooh)

What (woo ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Where (woo ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Why (tell me why, tell me why, tell me why…)

I don’t understand
Let’s sit down and talk
One minute you love me and then you walk
There’s more going on
Than you will admit
‘Cause just as we got it to work you quit

I’m caught in a fog
And you make it clear
The truth won’t be worse than the things I fear
It’s a mystery to me
I haven’t a clue
If somebody else has a part of you

Tell me
Who (who)
What when where why (why)
Who is the guy
What made you need someone new
Tell me
Who what when where why
When did it die
When’d we go wrong
Don’t you lie, tell me why

You won’t be my love
You won’t be my friend
But won’t you at least help me comprehend
What’s happening to me
‘Cause after you go
My one consolation will be to know
The places and names, the reason and rhymes
The facts of the matter and points in time
I tried for your love
But you won’t allow
This guy to do nothin’ but ask you how

And… Who (who)
What when where why (why)
Who is the guy
What made you need someone new
Tell me
Who what when where why
When did it die
When’d we go wrong
Don’t you lie, tell me why

I want you to say
What’s inside your head
Confession is good for the soul it’s said
So start at the top and take it real slow
If you want out, then I have to know

Just… Who (who)
What when where why (why)
Who is the guy
What made you need someone new
Tell me
Who what when where why
When did it die
When’d we go wrong
Don’t you lie, tell me why

But I have to pop in a other song here one that especially resonates with me. It Annie Lennox singing Why. The lyrics of this song are so often the pattern of my life. It a beautiful song. I am stronger now but it’s not always easy to be. So I am reaching out my hand to support anyone out there Male/ Female / Transgender/ Lesbian/ Gay whoever needs support.💜 Be strong be brave be yourself. All the wrongs in life are not always your fault.💜

How many times do I have to try to tell you
That I’m sorry for the things I’ve done
But when I start to try to tell you
That’s when you have to tell me
Hey… this kind of trouble’s only just begun
I tell myself too many times
Why don’t you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut
That’s why it hurts so bad to hear the words
That keep on falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Tell me…
Why
Why
I may be mad
I may be blind
I may be viciously unkind
But I can still read what you’re thinking
And I’ve heard is said too many times
That you’d be better off
Besides…
Why can’t you see this boat is sinking
(this boat is sinking this boat is sinking)
Let’s go down to the water’s edge
And we can cast away those doubts
Some things are better left unsaid
But they still turn me inside out
Turning inside out turning inside out
Tell me…
Why
Tell me…
Why
This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I’ll never tread
These are the dreams I’ll dream instead
This is the joy that’s seldom spread
These are the tears…
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel?
’cause i don’t think you know how I feel
I don’t think you know what I feel
I don’t think you know what I feel
You don’t know what I feel

Song Lyric Sunday. Entanglement.9/June/2019

It is time again for Song Lyric Sunday. This week our prompt is Desire/Lust/Romance/Passion. Again it’s all thanks to our gracious host Jim Adams at NewEpicAuthor.

So I am going with the first song that comes into my mind and it by my most favourite singer songwriter Imogen Heap. It is from her fourth album Sparks from 2014, called Entanglement.

It’s such a beautiful song about love, lust, romance, desire and passion. The video is directed by her partner Michael Labor. It is Immie and Michael in the video.
When Immi made Sparks she released videos explaining how each track was made, in one of these she announced she and Michael were expecting a baby. A daughter Florence, Scout, Rosie Heap-Labor was born 8th November 2014 💜

Lyrics from A to Z Lyric

Entanglement”

Here we are
Blood pressure rising fast
Air electric
Conduct this orchestra

A micro utopia born
As the overture plays
This prelude to life long love
Our bodies’ entanglement take
You all over me
Me all over you

Fearless heart
I’m going to take care of you
Whether spark or spiral
I’ll pull the strength of suns

It’s home where you hold me
So show me no mercy
On islands of cotton
Taboos get forgotten
Our body entanglement wants
You all over me
Me all over you

Burst me into bloom I dare you to
Lose yourself in our embodiment
Ravage this palate of pinks and reds
Dissolve into radiance

It’s home where you hold me
So show me no mercy
On islands of cotton
Taboos get forgotten
Our body entanglement wants
You all over me
Me all over you

Song Lyric Sunday Time of Day.

Jim Adams of NewEpicAuthor has given us Dawn/Noon/Dusk/Midnight/Nocturnal/Diurnal as the theme for today’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt.

Right folks I have the 99 year old mother in law over, as we do most Sundays. She gets very ansie if I even look at my phone when she is here. ( She never been keen on me so any excuse to put me down she will. Never mind I am patient and just smile and agree).

So it’s a quick one today but one I love and the video..well I could watch that all day to.

Without futher ado I give you Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and Night and Day. From the film The Gay Divorcée. The tile of the film dates from when gay meant happy and cheerful.

Lyrics by Cole Porter.

Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon
Under the sun
Whether near to me or far
It’s no matter, darling, where you are
I think of you night and day
Night and day, why’s it so
That this longing for you
Follows wherever I go
In the roaring traffic’s boom
In the silence of my lonely room
I think of you night and day
Night and day, under the hide of me
There’s an, ooh, such a hungry yearning
Burning inside of me
And this torment won’t be through
Till you let me spend my life making love to you
Day and night, night and day

Song Lyric Sunday. Mother’s.

For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday Jim Adams at NewEpicAuthor said :The theme today is Mom/Mother/Flowers. Pick up some flowers, or candy, or even a card for your mother. Better yet, give her a call or go visit her and tell her how much you love her.

Why? Because it’s Mother’s Day in the US. So happy Mother’s Day to America. A day for Hallmark, florists, and chocolatiers to celebrate.

Personally I think it should be parents day everyday.

But enough let’s go with the prompt.

My mum has been dead a long time over 20years. I still miss her so much. I wrote this poem in her honour.

Polesden Lacey

Gentle she was.

Gentle she was, a young woman of means, beautiful in her Marcel Wave she was.

A hair dresser with her own shop a teaser of hair and tresses.

Then the quiet Irish man took her eye and her heart.

Not impressed were her parents with the young Irish trade unionist from the motor trade.

Time eventually brought them round to accept the vows the young couple had made.

Grief she bore when her fist born died at six months

Brave she was to have more. Three girls then two boys , and two more angels lost in-between.

Then after all was finished me, making six.

Hard she worked to bring us up and support her quiet man who was there for her too.

Kind she was, good and open hearted she was.

The door always open to family and waifs and strays

Big hearted she was to all who past through our door.

Always there she was, with words of wisdom and comfort.

Her beautiful heart shone through her eyes.

Patient she was but there was temper there if needed,

She was not strong or mean but if needed her children and her man she would defend to the death!

Beautiful she was in features and in heart

there was not task she would not finish if she had made a start.

Cried for her daughters she did as her man gave them away

And when her sons went too she had a proud day.

Together alone by themselves again.

Happy she was full of the business of her quiet man.

Yet she was always ready to talk and help and ease our pain.

Cleaver she was but not school or college wise she was wise in life and love and truth and need.

Lonely she was when her man was taken ,

Wept she did as she wanted to join him.

Lost she was without the quiet man .

Heart broken she became though she threw herself in to caring for grandchildren.

Gone she was before her body, her mind and soul went to him.

Lost to us she was, a smile here and there maybe a flash of recognition.

Unknowing of all around her she was,sad eyed frighted lamb lonely lonely.

Tiny she was when she went sadly lost to us long before .

Gone into her mind to find her quiet man.

Tears we shed for her,we wept in grief and I in anger because so long had she been gone and I had wanted to talk to her,

But gone she really was.

Anemones her favourite flowers were they always remind me of her.

I forgave her for leaving me and now accept she had to go

As by the side of her quiet man was where she had to be.

Never to be forgotten.

So I have picked Like a River by Carly Simon.

Carly wrote the song for her mother Andrea Simon, written just after her passing in 1994.

The song speaks of her mother’s spirit always being there for her and the family. It just how I feel about my mum. She saw all my boys but none of my grandchildren …she died years before they were born. She watches over them as she does over the whole extended family.

Like A River

Dear mother the struggle is over now

And your house is up for sale
We divided your railway watches
Between the four of us
I fought over the pearls
With the other girls
But it was all a metaphor
For what was wrong with us
As the room is emptying out
Your face so young comes into view
And on the back porch is a well-worn step
And a pool of light you can walk into

I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you, forever
Like a river…

Can you clear up the mystery of the Sphinx?
Do you know any more about God?
Are you dancing with Benjamin Franklin
On the face of the moon?
Have you reconciled with Dad?
Does the rain still make you sad?
Last night I swear I could feel you
Moving through my room
And I thought you touched my feet
I so wanted it to be true
In my theater there is a stage
And a footlight you can step into…

I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you, forever
Like a river…

In the river I know I will find the key
And your voice will rise like the spray
In the moment of knowing
The tide will wash away my doubt
‘Cause you’re already home
Making it nice for when I come home
Like the way I find my bed turned down
Coming in from a late night out.
Please keep reminding me
Of what in my soul I know is true

Come in my boat, there’s a seat beside me
And two or three stars we can gaze into…

I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you forever
Like a river…

I’ll never leave, always just a dream away
A star that’s always watching
Never turn away
We’ll never leave, always just a thought away
A candle always burning
Never turn away
The moon will hide, the tree will bend
I’m right beside you
I’ll never turn away

Letters Never Sent” (1994)

Letters Never Sent

Touched By The Sun

Halfway ‘Round The World

Song Lyric Sunday 21/4/2019

Hi it is Easter Sunday today and our host Jim Adams NewEpicAuthor has given us this wide open prompt.’Seasons/Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall ‘ for Song Lyric Sunday.

Sorry this one s so late, I have been so busy today. Hope you are all enjoying Easter.

Winter’s Tale, by David Essex.

A Man for all Seasons, by the Bee Gees, B side to 1970s A side Lonely Days.

“Man For All Seasons”

Everybody wants to leave
Just like you and I
I have all year to smile
A tear for every eye

Life closed it’s eyes, broke my world, now I cry
I’ve got to tell you, I’ve got the reasons
‘Cause I’m a man, a man for all seasons, alive

And would I pray
What makes the world go round
I haven’t got today
My mind is lost and found

Life closed it’s eyes and said goodbye, now I cry
But I’ve got to tell you, I’ve got my reasons
‘Cause I’m a man, a man for all seasons, alive
And would I pray what makes the world go round
I haven’t got today, my mind is lost and found
Du du du du du du du

I’m a man for all seasons
I’m a man for all seasons
I’m a man for all seasons
I’m a man for all seasons
Lyrics from A to Z Lyrics

Song Lyric Sunday, Burn/ Fire/Flame.

Hi everyone and thanks to our host Jim at NewEpicAuthor for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt. Burn/Fire/Flame.

So many great songs to choose from and I need to be careful not to use any I have used before.

Well use this one before or not I adore Fire Meets Gasoline by Sia. It fits the prompt perfectly.

Burn by Ellie Goulding Oh! Love this too.

Oh! And the Australian group Midnight Oil , Beds are burning. The best protest song ever!

And the best video

Of course with this prompt we have to Have Arthur Brown who I saw live at Reading Festival years ago..a lifetime ago. Fire!

And the Bangles Eternal Flame.

Okay I shall stop now I have on on a bit but before I go .

We didn’t start the the fire Billy Joel ..best history lesson ever.

And the pictures.

Okay so I didn’t enjoy this one 😉😉

Song Lyric Sunday. 100 Years.

Due to being really busy last weekend I missed out on doing Song Lyric Sunday. My apologies to Jim and Everyone at NewEpicAuthor I am back now 🌹

This week the prompt is Minutes/Hours/Days/Weeks/Months, which was suggested by Felicia Denise.

Well I am going a little off piste with this one. I have used this song before, I am sure I have. It is about the passage of time. It a beautiful song about a young man’s life from fifteen to one hundred, it’s called 100 Hundred Years, mind you if it’s fifteen to a hundred it should be called eighty five years.

Okay I am joking it’s a lovely song , always makes me cry. I hope you all enjoy it. It is by Five For Fighting .

100 Years.

I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I’m 22 for a moment
And she feels better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from Mars
15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
I’m 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I’m a ‘they
A kid on the way, babe
A family on my mind
I’m 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I’m heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15 I’m all right with you
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We’re moving on
I’m 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
15 there’s still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you’re on your way
Every day’s a new day
15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

Song Lyric Sunday. Animals.

Jim Adams, aka Newwpicauthor, has decided that this week’s SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY will be Animal.

Well I struggled with this prompt. Being late to the party the first to mind would be already used. Then I remembered Let’s Do It. The 1920’s Cole Porter standard. I chose the Alanis Morissette version.

I do love this version I hope you do too.

Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall In Love)”

Lyrics. Cole Porter

Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

In Spain, the best upper sets do it
Lithuanians and Letts do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the Finns
Folks in Siam do it – think of Siamese twins

Some Argentines without means do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

Romantic sponges, they say, do it
Oysters down in Oyster Bay do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

Cold Cape Cod clams, ‘gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

Electric eels, I might add, do it
Though it shocks ’em I know
Why ask if shad do it? Waiter, bring me shad roe!

In shallow shoals, English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

In old Japan, all the Japs do it
Up in Lapland little Laps do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

The chimpanzees in the zoos do it
Some courageous kangaroos do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

I’m sure giraffes on the sly do it
Even eagles as they fly do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

Electric eels, I might add, do it
Though it shocks ’em I know
Why ask if shad do it? Garçon, de shad roe!

The world admits bears in pits do it
Even Pekingeses at the Ritz do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love

The royal set sans regret did it
And they considered it fun
Marie Antoinette did it –
With or without Napoleon

Lyrics from A to Z Lyrics.
