easily.

Serendipity

Gary rushed out the house desparate not to be late for work today of all days. It was raining, typical, he thought, I shall look like a drowned rat when get to work.

As he rushed down the station steps he thought he might just catch the tube. That was not meant to be, the doors closed and it moved off as he reached the bottom step. Okay he thought give up your wet, late and there’s no point in getting stressed.

Debbie left home on time and in a good mood, she liked her new flat and the area was her old home stomping ground. She’d only been back a week and she had a new job and had made contact with her old friends. Smiling she put up her umbrella and made to the station. She normally went by car but it was in for a service today.

Gary stood watching the electronic timetable hanging from the platform roof. Sipping his coffee he thought to himself he had not been late for as long as he could remember so why did he have to be late today of all days.

Debbie checked the times of the tubes. The next one was due in ten minutes. So she decided to reread the notes about her new job while she waited. Getting out the folder an unexpected gust of wind whipped a couple of pages out of her hand. In dismay she saw them flying out onto the platform and into the rain.

In her rush to retrieve the papers she didn’t see the young man also trying to rescue them. They both bumped into each other.

Gary’s coffee went flying. He was not pleased, now he had coffee stains to add to his woes. Taking a deep breath he forced a smile, after all it wasn’t her fault he was having a bad day.

Debbie took the papers back from this nice guy and smiled . “Gary” she exclaimed, “it is you isn’t it” Oh! It is she thought she had always liked Gary , he had been two years ahead of her at school.

Gary stopped scrambling around picking up the last of the papers. He looked at her and his smile broadened. “Debbie” he said “Debbie Foster” He had always liked her but his mates had made fun of him for aiming too high.

Debbie suggested she buy them a fresh coffee, he agreed and so began the rest of their lives together.

So there we have it Serendipity.

A guy who is never late for work is late.

A missed tube.

A move, a new job.

A car in service.

A gust of wind.

Spilt coffee.

Old school friends.

= Happy Ever After.

# JusJoJan 2019 Daily Prompt – Jan. 17th

Our prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 17th is brought to you by John Holton! Click here to find his last post and say hi while you’re there! John’s word for our prompt today is “Inch” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!

Inch by inch we moved forward, attached by ropes around our waists. The ice was so cold we could feel it chilling our bones.

We inched on carefully watching for any cracks that might appear in the ice. The man at the front of the line signaled for us to stop and listen.

We all did, we heard the ice groaning and over that the tired howling of exhaustion. We all knew what to do. We spread out, those at the front laid down and continued to inch ahead. We further back held on tight to the ropes securing the men at the front.

We held those ropes tight we could not give an inch or they might slip and drown.

The howling was getting quieter now but we could not give up or relax our efforts. This was a valued member of our team they had saved many of us before.

The cry went up “Got her” slowly inch by inch we hauled her out. She was passed down the line across the frozen lake to the shore. As soon as she reached the bank she was wrapped up warmly in a moon blanket. And rushed off for medical treatment.

Later we visited her, luckily the Vet said she would be fine but the fabulous dog part of our team had been within an inch of losing her life! Even so she was soon back working with us again.

Reflection

Ripe

Echoes

Fall softly

Lightly around

Ever spreading out

Causing reflections to

Tremble and dance altered

Images before my tired

Old eyes, dim yet memory still bright.

No I see the beauty on reflection.

JusJoJan 2019 Daily Prompt – Jan. 10th Sunrise.

Our prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 10th is brought to you by Toortsie! Click here to find her last post and say hi while you’re there! Toortsie’s word for our prompt today is “Sunrise.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!

I have used Imogen Heap’s video of Xizi because it encapsulates Sunrise.

Sunrise

Oh! glory greets the dawn

Gold, and blue colours born.

A ring of stones ages old

Awaits the Sunrise shrouded in cold.

We stand expectant hand in hand

We lean the lessons from the land.

Chanting words we close our eyes

Joining with companions and strangers we send our message to the skies.

In early December I was on a course with The Silent Eye. On the last day of the course we were up before Sunrise to drive a short distance from our guests house to Castlerigg.

We arrived at the stone circle shortly before dawn. Although it was freezing I was buzzing and warm. I was excited to greet the new day, I felt electric.

We were eight but we were not alone. There were three men there dressed for hill walking and wrapped up well. We spoke with them and they seemed like kindred spirits.

In my mind I christened them “Hobbits”, only because they seemed so at one with the surroundings and on a quest too.

There were also two young women tourists taking photos. They were a little bemused by us.

As Sunrise grew closer we invited the Hobbits to join us in our circle to join hands and greet the dawn. They did so willingly saying they were always glad to join a circle.

As we greeted the sunrise we chanted holding hands with companions and strangers. I felt an inner warmth filling my while being.

As we left I thanked the Hobbits for their company, they said they had been happy to share the moment with us and that our paths would definitely cross again.

One our way back to our breakfast we saw the sunrise in all its glory.

We did return to Castlerigg stone circle later that morning to finish the course. It is a stunning place.

Strangely Sue mentioned that she and Stuart had returned to the same circle at sun set and had met the three gentlemen again (my Hobbits) so they had indeed crossed paths once more.

More thoughts from The Silent Eye‘s : The Full Circle : Finding your way home, weekend in Cumbria. For Just Jot it January.
