This is my entry for LindaGHill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday.
This week’s prompt is ‘ic and ical’ find a word that uses either or both. Bonus points if you can use both! #SoCs.
Stoic, I like to think that I am stoical I don’t like to cause a fuss. I believe I have a high tolerance for most things, pain, patience and compassion.
Sadly the news has worn me down this year. The rise in knife crime has really made me stop and think.
I feel the time for being stoical has finally come to an end.
(The figures quoted below were correct at the time I wrote them, even though I can hardly believe them myself.)
There have been 89 murders so far this year of which 51 were fatal stabbings . The number of offences involving stabbings for the year up to the end of March 2018 was an unbelievable 40147.
So far in 2018 there have been 1,299 stabbings in London up to the end of April, According to official statistics from the Metropolitan Police.
There has been a huge rise in gang and drugs related crime in all our major cities. Many though not all of these crimes are committed by young men and boys.
I have written about gang crime before here .
Sadly many, though by no means all of these incidents have involved imigrants who have come here in search of better lives only to find themselves caught up in the drug and gang culture that is rife on many of the large city’s housing estate.
I am sorry for this rant but I feel we must do something. It is no longer a time to be Stoical.
