Song Lyric Sunday: Diamonds.

Congratulions to Helen Espinosa who has just got Married. ūüéÜūüćĺūüéČūüć∑ūüć∑ūüíĚAfter all the trials and tribulations may you and  all your family be very happy now.

And now this week for our Song Lyric Sunday prompt is to ” post a song with precious metal/stones or jewelry in the title or lyric.”

Well I did not think about this too much as there are so many fabulous songs, like Pearls a singer, Band of Gold, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

Well I have plumbed for my two most favourites of all times both very different.

Firstly Shine on you crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd

“Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V)”

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Lyrics from A To Z Lyrics

Secondly my all time favourite song from Sia, Shine Bright Like a Diamond.

“Diamonds”

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond

Find light in the beautiful sea
I choose to be happy
You and I, you and I
We’re like diamonds in the sky

You’re a shooting star I see
A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I’m alive
We’re like diamonds in the sky

I knew that we’d become one right away
Oh, right away
At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes

So shine bright tonight, you and I
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Eye to eye, so alive
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond

Lyrics by Sia, from A to Z Lyrics

All that leaves now is to wish Helen and her Husband the very very best.

Song Lyric Sunday: The Living Years: A day late.

Helen Espinosa of This Life One Word at a time said that this week:” our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is to post a song about consequences, good or bad.”

Sorry this is a day late.

Rules and Pingback here.

So I thought about this long and hard and I  decided that I would pick on Mike and the Machanics song, In  the living years.

It is such a classic song of consequences. In truth it is about father son  relationships and it rings very true but honestly the words could be applied to any relationship. We all put off to tomorrow what we should do today. There are so many things I should of said to my parents my sister who died two years ago, friends and somehow I didn’t and now it’s too late. It’s like opening‚Äč a whole can of worms Helen .

I promise myself I shall not make the same mistake again but I know I will.

The lyrics say it all. I have to put all the lyrics here as they resonate with me and no doubt all of you.

Tissues to the ready.

Lyrics care of A to Z  Lyrics

The Living Years”

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got

You say you just don’t see it
He says it’s perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defense

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts

So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different date
And if you don’t give up, and don’t give in
You may just be O.K.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

I wasn’t there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo
In my baby’s new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

Song Lyric Sunday: Pain. Meantime Imogen Heap.

img_13451

Helen Espinosa  of  This  Life  one  step  at a time  has  set  us  the  task  of  fining  a  song  about  Pain  for  our Song Lyric  Sunday.

Part of the lyrics of Meantime by Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth.

The purity in dreaming,
the meantime is a quarentine,
suppose there is no difference
and phone sex is eternal love

the promise in our yearning
the meantime is a quarentine
and the body parts can mix
when you fail to make her hard

and you’ll never find out if this ones love
once you’ve dried out a river¬†
And you’ll never found out if this one’s love
So take my heart in the mean time

This to me this is one of the saddest of songs. A young Imogen Heap¬† with ¬†Guy Sigsworth wrote about the pain of pretend love, love for sale that ¬†is ¬†experienced ¬†by ¬†young ¬†and ¬†old ¬†in ¬†the ¬†quest ¬†for ¬†that ¬†one ¬†true ¬†love . The cheapness and depressing aspect to sex that ¬†often ¬†rears it’s ¬†head ¬†before ¬†love ¬†arrives. Let’s face it sex is not love but both love and sex can cause a lot of pain. Love is ¬†a ¬†killer, it is unkind ¬†it ¬†enjoys ¬†your ¬†pain. We ¬†are ¬†all if ¬†we ¬†are ¬†honest yearning ¬†for ¬†the ¬†one ¬†love ¬†until ¬†we ¬†find it. Some ¬†never ¬†find ¬†it and ¬†often ¬†those ¬†who ¬†do ¬†do ¬†not ¬†take ¬†care of ¬†it and ¬†crush ¬†it ¬†carelessly ¬†like ¬†a butterfly.

So  the  question  is  in  the  last  verse  of  the  song.

Will the next love be the real one
Will the next love be the real one

Song Lyric Sunday: Rain

Our  dear  friend  Helen Espinosa  of

THIS THING CALLED LIFE ONE WORD AT A TIME¬†said ¬†:Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is to post a song about rain, or a song that has ‚Äúrain‚ÄĚ in the title or lyrics.¬†

So I  have  picked  two of  my  favourite  songs  about  rain the  first  is  Why  Does  It  Always  Rain On  Me  by Travis. I  love  this  song  because  sometimes  I  wonder why  too!

Rules  and  Pingback here

Why does  it always  rain on  me

I can’t sleep tonight
Everybody’s saying everything is alright
Still I can’t close my eyes
I’m seeing a tunnel at the end of all of these lights
Sunny days, where have you gone?
I get the strangest feeling you belong
Why does it always rain on me?
Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?
Why does it always rain on me?
Even when the sun is shinning I can’t avoid the lightning
I can’t stand myself
I’m being held up by invisible men
Still life on a shelf when
I’ve got my mind on something else
Sunny days, oh where have you gone
I get the strangest feeling you belong
Why does it always rain on me?
Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?
Why does it always rain on me?
Even when the sun is shinning I can’t avoid the lightning
Middle eight
Oh where…

Now  if  we  are  talking  about  songs  about   rain  we  cannot  let  a  post  go  by  without  Annie  Lennox  and  Dave Stewart   who  were  the   Eurythmics. Simply  the  best  song  about  rain  ever!

Here Comes the Rain Again
Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you
So baby talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do
Talk to me
Like lovers do
Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion
Oh
I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you
So baby talk to me
Like lovers do

Song Lyric Sunday. Duran Duran.

This week Helen Espinosa told us she has been battling  with health issues all year, hers and her partner’s. I can understand that. Helen thinks the best way forward is to look back.

Rules and Pingback here

I have picked Rio by Duran Duran it, to me is the epitome of the music of the early eighties. Full of excess and heddenisum. They say you reap what you so yet back then who cared? No one, well not us.‚̧ԳŹ

Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song from the 80‚Äôs.

Be well Helen and all your family ūüíú‚̧ԳŹūüíĚ

Lyrics by Duran Duran

       Rio

Moving on the floor now, babe, you’re a bird of paradise
Cherry ice cream smile, I suppose it’s very nice
With a step to your left and a flick to the right
You catch that mirror way out west
You know you’re something special, and you look like you’re the best

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines, she really shows you all she can
Oh, Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

I’ve seen you on the beach and I’ve seen you on TV
Two of a billion stars, it means so much to me
Like a birthday or a pretty view
But then, I’m sure that you know it’s just for you

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines, she really shows you all she can
Oh, Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

Ha ha ha, ah ha ha

Hey now, woo, look at that
Did she nearly run you down?
At the end of the drive, the lawmen arrive
You make me feel alive, alive, alive
I’ll take my chance, ’cause luck is on my side or something
I know what you’re thinking, I’ll tell you something, I know what you’re thinking

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twists across a dusty land
And when she shines, she really shows you all she can
Oh, Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

Her name is Rio, she don’t need to understand
And I might find her if I’m looking like I can
Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land
From mountains in the north down to the Rio Grande

SONG Lyric Sunday: As Tears Go By.

Helen Espinoa’s sister, Lorrie  (dlrands) who is hosting Sunday Song lyric for her said : our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post your favorite cover song.

So I put on my thinking cap and came up with this song originally the Rolling Stones in fact written my Jagger and Richards under the pen names of Nanker and Pledge. The song is, As tears go by.

Now the cover and more well known version is by Marianne Faithful one time girlfriend of Mick Jagger. She was a singer and also an actress

Her version as a young woman is so sweet and pure, sweeter and purer than her life and very profectic.

“As Tears Go By”

It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by
My riches can’t buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doin’ things I used to do
They think are new
I sit and watch
As tears go by

Here she is singing as a much older woman at Stockholm Music and Arts August 3rd 2012 the voice no longer pure and sweet, is husky, harsh and full of a life lived to excess.

My favourite of the three. . hard to say of the two covers even harder but I think each has it’s own merits!  Happy Sunday everyone ūüíĚ

Song Lyric Sunday: One Hundred Years.

This is my entry to Helen Espinoza’s‚Äč Song lyric Sunday hosted by her sister Lorrie (dlrands)

Today’s theme is time.

Well at the moment I feel that time is running away from me. I am getting older, my children all grown up, my grandchildren growing in number. I am scared at times there is more behind me than ahead. I am doing my best to live life to the full and do my best to not waste a moment.

My mother in law is 97yrs luckily for her she is pretty fit mentally and physically and determined to live forever!  I have to admit time scares me.

Now to my choice of song. It is by Five for Fighting and is called One Hundred Years.

Who introduced me to Five for Fighting, none less than Helen Espinosa herself. Thank you Helen ūüíúūüíó

One Hundred Years

I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

I’m 22 for a moment
And she feels better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live

I’m 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I’m a “they”
A kid on the way, babe.
A family on my mind

I’m 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I’m heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star

15 I’m all right with you
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live

Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We’re moving on…

I’m 99 for a moment
And dying for just another moment
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

15 there’s still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you’re on your way
Every day’s a new day…

(oh oh ohs)

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
