#TankaTuesday Weekly #Syllabic #Poetry Challenge No. 311, 3/14/23

WELCOME TO #TANKATUESDAY

This week Colleen’s challenge is Synonyms Only. That means you must select synonyms for the two words below. Submit by March 19, 2023.

spring & green

(any definition of the words.)

I have chosen an Abhanga. A poem in any number of 4-line stanzas with 6-6-6-4 syllables each. L2 and L3 rhyme. The end rhyme scheme is abbc. It is customary to title your poetry. The Abhanga is of childhood memories, mum cooking spring greens.

SPRING GREENS

Such childhood memories
The smell in the kitchen
I didn’t love it then
Mum cooked just right.

Those viridescent veg
They will make your hair curl
Make you a healthy girl
Mum was so right.

The verdant early leaves
Fresh like the new season
Taste reminds me of fun
Mum cooked just right.

#TankaTuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge No. 263, 3/1/22: #Tastetherainbow-Colour Poetry.

Hello everyone. Colleen said “This week, let’s have fun with the colour of March: GREEN!

Green is one of those colours that includes many shades. This colour also has different meanings not associated with the color.

This week’s challenge is to choose your own syllabic form and a shade of green to feature in your syllabic poem. You’ll receive bonus points if you don’t use the name: green. You’ll also receive bonus points if you can also incorporate a different meaning for the word green in your poem.

I have decided to do a Haiku using new apprentice, meaning green, no experience. Verdant meaning, lush and green, and Viridesence meaning greenish or becoming green.

Nature’s treasures for us all

Have we pushed nature too far
Will the green go for ever.

Mathew knew that Rachel was in torment and needed him. He did not know where she was or even why she was desperately calling for him.

He looked and the moon, it was full, that boded nothing but danger. The Warewolves would be out hunting, the humans would be on high alert … The elves and dwarfs, those that were left would be in hiding.

After a short while for thought, Mathew finished drinking the blood of the deer he had killed. He reasoned he needed all the strength he could get.  Then he set off in the direction his instincts were drawing him, towards the sea.

Moving at the speed of light Mathew sped west, his mind in a turmoil what was wrong with Rachel why could he feel so much of her anguish. He past villages, towns, and a city the smell of human blood kept calling to him but he resisted the temptation.

He must of taken his mind off his surroundings for as he set down for a rest he was faced with three Warewolves. They were delighted to see him. Baring their fangs they all sprang at him ripping into his flesh before he could defend himself.

Mathew fought back valiantly wounding the female and killing the younger male unfortunately the remaining male was strong and angry! He had seriously injured Mathew, who felt himself slipping away. The huge wolf was circling Mathew ready to go in for the kill. Mathew knew all his strength was gone and his injuries were such as he could not retaliate, all the damn wolf had to now was to either rip out his heart or rip off his head.  He was cold and tired but more than the thought of being sent into oblivion he wanted to see Rachel.

The wolf had sunk his claws deep into Mathew’s chest  just as Mathew smelt the foul breath of the wolf there was high pitched scream just as everything went black.

Mathew opened his eyes, he was in so much pain, he expected to see the wolf but instead he saw the beautiful pale face of his sister, Fay. He could hear water running over stones as he looked two ivy covered arches came into view just as he blacked out again.

Fay held Mathew in her arms, she felt they were safe enough under the bridge as the Warewolves could not get their scent and the humans were scared of this place , believing it to be a place of witchcraft!

Fay looked at the dark roof  asked for  help, she had no idea from whom but she needed help.

Lisa was feeding Hope when she heard Rachel’s cry for help. She saw exactly where they were.
