If we were having Coffee: Gardens, kitchens and flowers!

Hello  everyone  welcome  to  the garden  we have a marquee  and  heaters, all the garden  furniture  has  been washed  and  I have put out cushions for your  comfort.

Well what  do  you  think  shall  we  chance  it . Now  as  always  we have  tea  and coffee  from all over  the world not to mention all our cakes  and muffins  and  as Paul  calls  them sweets! Every single  one  is  calorie  free! Plus of course  we now have spirits  and liquors  to warm the coldest of  you.

If we were having  Coffee: I would ask  you what  has been going on in your world this week, has  anything  deeply affected  you, have  you need a sympathetic ear, a shoulder to cry  on or  just  needed someone  to make  you laugh! If  yes  feel free to talk it out  here  with us. We will all help if  we can.

If we were having Coffee: I would  remind  you  that  there  are lots of  other  coffee mornings  all shared  and organized  By  Diana  and  Gene’O  over at,Part time monster

If we were having coffee:  Well it has  been  a very  busy  week  again, tell me  please  where  has half of  this year  gone ??

Well  settle  down  with your  drinks  and cakes   and I  shall  tell you  about  the big  plan! What  I hear  you  asking?  Right  the hubby  has  suggested  we have a new  kitchen   and I  actually  agree! Even though it will mean a lot of upheaval  it  will be  worth it. So  far  we have  waded  through  the  catalogue  of  the  manufacter  that  we have chosen. We  have picked  the unit  and  narrowed  the colour  scheme  down to  three  colours ( Ivory, sage  or light blue) . We  have spent hours  choosing   which  white  goods  we  want   and  also  spent  ages  researching  cooker hoods.

We  have  decided  to  have  the hob  on  a central  island   which means  the extracter  hood  will be  suspended  above  said  hob! Well I hae to apologise  for  all the  slips of  paper  with  drawings  on  and  the  catalogues  strewn  all over  the place !  move  them out  the way  and  make  yourselves  comfortable…. watch  this spot.

If we  were having Coffee :  My  gym buddy  and I  have  been working very hard  this  week  and  we have  signed up  for another  course of  extra  lessons  to see us  through  to the end  of  the year !

Can I refill your cup or  get you  a calorie  free  treat  we have some  gorgeous  cakes  this week.

If  we  were having  coffee: I would  draw  your  attantion  to  Paul’s  blog  this  week  it is  exstremely  thought  provoking,  do  read  it  believe me  you  will not  regret  it! If  we  were having  coffee: I tell  you  that  the garden is  doing  fine   but  I  have no photos  today  because   I just  have  not  had  time  to  take  any  this  week Hooray  I hear  you  all shouting!! … But  hey  I have  some  lovely  photos of  some of  my  flowers!

If  we  were having  coffee :  I would  tell  you  that  I  have  been  away  with  the  hubby  on  on a  Rhine  cruise! I  have  to say  it  was way  above  my  expectations, to  be honest  I  was in  trepidation! I  am not  keen  on  water  and  I  do not like  like ships or  boats! The  thought of a sea  cruise  sends  me running  at  speed  for cover! Yet  this  cruise  down  the Rhine  was  calm  relaxed  and luxurious!

We really  had a  lovely  time   and  met  so  many  special  people , four in  particular  with  who  I hope  we  can keep in  contact  with.

More  cakes  anyone  I  hope I  have not  bored  you  with  my  photos ,  your  lucky  I only  showed  you  twelve I  took  hundreds!!

If  we were having  Coffee : Although  I  was  away  I  did try  to  post a little  something  everyday . A  thought,  an  idea or even  a  day  dream.  Monday  the  sunset  gave me inspiration  watching  the  sun  change  the colour of  the  river  as it  set (so it  seemed) We  went on  a tour  every day,  we visited  castles, in one I  saw  a rose  growing  by a door  that  gave  me  the idea  for  Thurdays post. Tuesday I reflected  in  the photo  and  on  the guides  …omg !

Wednesay  was  LindaGHill’s  One liner Wednesday, the  tour  guide  did  say  that  sentence  about  the  wolf  population ….. I  wrote  down  as it left  her lips!! Also  silent  Wednesday  that  was  easy  too  as  we had  so  much  to  see!

Friday  again  just  flowed  from  me  (  excuse  the pun)  acrostic  river , and  Suturday  was LindsGHill’s  SoCs , that  was  about  the people I  had  met  and  those  I  already  love.

If  we  were having  coffee : So today I  will  be rushing in  and out  having  a quick  word  there  and filling a  cup  up  here! Hoping  you  don’t  think  me  rude.  I  am trying  to  read  all  your posts,  there  are loads to read as I  did not  have a lot of  time  to  do  much on  Wordpress  as  the ship and  the real  world offered  so much to  experience  but I did try  when I  could  get  WIFI.

If  we  were having Coffee :  I  would  now  announce  that  it is  Garden Catch up  time…. I know , I know  but  we are  proud of  it!!

We did have a friend look after the garden

We  did  have a  friend  to  look  after  the garden  and  she watered  the  veg  plus a new Fusia  we  had  recently  bought ! We  knew  everything  else  would  survive! It  has  been very  hot  here  and in Europe   and  the gardens  are  crying  out for  a  rain  storm . Believe it or  not  right on cue  as  I write  this, a  light  rain  is  starting  to fall. ….. It’s  okay  if  it rains  tomorrow  I have  the ironing   to  do  and everything  is  washed  dried  and airing!!

Well as  I  said  I am  very  busy  this  week …. OH! I  hope  we  will be  back  to normal  by  next  Sunday!! and Paul  will be back  here, I have  missed  him!

Once  again I  thank  you  all for  visiting  me  and Paul  too  we love to  see you  and hear  what  you have to say  and  we hope  you will join us again next  week! Hugs  to you  all!

If we were having Coffee: Get well Paul

Firstly  before  we  go  any  further  I  need  to  tell  you  that  my genial  co host  Paul Curran  will not  be posting  ‘If  we  were having  Coffee’ this  week  because unfortunately  he is  unwell again . I received  an email  this  morning   saying his   Dialysis did not  go well last night  infact  it  was not  good  at  all  he got  two  hematomas.  Sadly  he was very  poorly  last night and has to go back today to try again. We all wish  you well  Paul and hope  you will be  back  here again very  soon!

Paul Curran

So  lets  all send  a huge  get  well to  Paul  we  will keep  you in  our  thoughts  and  those  of us  who  want  to  (  me included ) can  pray  for  your  safe  return  soon!

Well Paul  if  you are  reading  this  we miss  you !!

If  we  were having  Coffee  :  time  again to ask how  are  you all are   and  what  have  you been up  to this  week!  Come in it is lovely  to see you all here again. The fires are lit  the cushions are plumped up and  we have  the coffee and tea on  the go  and the cakes and sweets are all set out.  We  have  tea  and coffee  from all over  the world not to mention all our cakes  and muffins  and  as Paul  calls  them sweets! Every single  one  is  calorie  free! Plus of course  we now have spirits  and liquors  to warm the coldest of  you.

If  yes  feel free to talk it out  here  with us. We will all help if  we can.

If we were having Coffee: I would  remind  you  that  there  are lots of  other  coffee mornings  all shared  and organized  By  Diana  and  Gene’O  over at,Part time monster

Now  welcome  to  Paul’s  guests, make  yourselves  at  home, I shall do  my  best to  entertain  you until our  Paul’s  safe return!

If we were  having  coffee I  would  tell you  that  it  was  the Newbie’s  first  Birthday  on Friday  10th  April. We  did  not  see  him that  day  but his  Daddy ,  who  has  been unwell and off work all week , rang  us  Friday  evening . He  put  the  Newbie  on  the  phone,  the  Newbie  loves  TV Remotes  and  Phones, he  was babbling  away  to us  on speaker  and it was like  having a  conversation. In fact  at  one  point  we both  asked him if  he had  had  a lovely  day  and he answered  with  what  sounded like a  resounding YES! Bless it  was lovely, it  was also lovely  to see how  the hubby’s  face  lit  up  at  the sound  of  the  darling  little boy!

There is  to be  a Birthday Tea  next  Sunday which I am so  looking  forward  to. I  am looking  forward  to going   and our  eldest  son will be there  too  unfortunately  our  middle  is  working .

We have  brought the  Newbie  a bubble  machine , and  the batteries  and  the  bubble liquid, I  think  we have  thought  of  everything! I  am really  looking  forward  to seeing  what  the  other  two  boys  have  bought  him??

We  are  all looking  forward  to  see  the little  family.

If  we  were  having  coffee  I would  ask  you  if  you would  like another  cuppa  or  a piece of  cake  do  help yourself.   My place  is  your place.

Last Sunday  was Easter  and  we had  the Hubby’s  mother  and his  last  remaining  Aunt over  for dinner  we had a  good  time  and  two ladies  enjoyed  seeing each other. I  may  have  told  you before  the  are  respectively  95yrs ( next month  )  and 93yrs!! Both  fit  and  spritely   and  mentally  as bright as buttons! They certainly  kept  Hubby  and  me on our toes!

My Lovely Daffodils

If we were having  Coffee  I  would tell you  that  I have another  vase  of  glorious  Daffodils   not  the  pure  yellow  type but  a  beautiful  two tone  variation . They  look glorious  on the windowsill in the kitchen.

Windsor, Thames and Castle

If we were having  Coffee  I say  that my  friend  L  and I  took another  trip to Windsor  we met  my  no longer  sister in law (  but  almost sister of  49yrs)  and her granddaughter  my  great niece. We  walked  along  the  river  to meet  them as  we were heading  from  opposite  directions! We  visited  Batchelors acre park  and  saw  the  new  statue  of  Queen Elizabeth  11 and  her  Corgies.

We  had a lovely  afternoon  and  then  just before  we caught our  bus  for home  we  popped in to  Windsor Parish  Church  we  had  never  had  a chance  to see inside  before  so it was a treat  .

I  have to go  now  as we are out to lunch  with  friends  and I am really  looking forward  to that! So  for  now  I hope  you have all had a  good weekend  and  have a good week ahead of  you.

Please  remember  Paul in your  thoughts or  and  prayers. We  all hope  he is back  very soon. So  you all of  you  love  and hugs  and  same time  same place  next  week!

If we were having Coffee. Operations,Stress,

Welcome, come on in it is lovely  to see you! If we were having Coffee . Come on in the fires are lit  the cushions are plumped up and  we have  the coffee and tea and the cakes and sweets are set out. Paul  and  his guests  are all here  and they are enjoying  the warmth  and food and drinks. We  have  tea  and coffee  from all over  the world not to mention all our cakes  and muffins  and  as Paul  calls  them sweets! Every single  one  is  calorie  free! Plus of course  we now have spirits  and liquors  to warm the coldest of  you .

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE : I would  say  not a lot  has been happening  this week. I have been looking after  hubby  after  he has been in hospital  for  an operation. Well two operations  actually . How did this happen well he went in for one  and when the surgeon  came  to speak to him  he informed  him he was going to perform a second  procedure too!

I think  the husband  was quite  taken aback, luckily it was too late  to do anything but have the  second operation but  consent! 🙂 .

I was surprised too  but not  by the double operation. No I was taken aback  the amazingly quick turnaround time of the hospital. In at 7am open surgery home by 2pm same day? Well honestly  I know  you are safer  from MRSA CDiffC  at  home  than in hospital   but hey six  and a half  hours  seems  rather hurried! …. But hey I can be a good nurse  and I have  worked hard to look after  and cope  with all of hubbies’ concerns!!

What else can I tell you, IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: well my  eldest  sister  hurt  her  knee  while  she was at  the library, she has  to now wait  to go  for a scan to see  what  the damage is! All she needs  just right now! Sister number two  is also not  doing so well, having  trouble  with he  heart! Sister  number  three well she is still struggling  with her shoulder after  her shoulder operation. I go round each week to wash  her hair! She is struggling  now  because  she has three unexpected  visitors  for Christmas, her  mother in law  and her two sister in laws!

Eldest  brother … well he was supposed  to be having an operation to sort out a leg problem that has been troubling him for at least 18months! Unfortunately  he has ha a problem  with an ingrowing toenail. Sadly  for him  because of the toenail  problem  his long awaited operation  has been postponed until the new year! …. Brother  number two , well he seems healthy  enough  so fingers  crossed  for him!!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: I would  say  that  it has been great  fun over at Jean’s Social Bridge   where  she is hosting  a party , come on over  and join in  here.  Jean has  a wonderful  blog  well worth taking a look at!

Yum Yum

OH! were are  my manners would  you like  another  cuppa and maybe  some cake?

These teddies  look good don’t  they! Mind  you I have eaten way too much today! It  has been one of  those days  when you just pick, pick and pick some more.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: I would  say  that  we have had  some really  harsh  weather this  week here in the UK. We  here in the South  have  been  very  much luckier  than those in the North and West! Read more  here!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: I will have to admit  that  although I have been really really  busy this  week not  much of real interest  has happened. I have told  you all my  news  so maybe  now  you would like  to tell me  some of  your  news, personal or international.

But  for  now  let us  join Paul and  his  guests , it is  so cold  we could  break out  the liquors!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE:  I would say  lets  go and see what Paul’s  guest are up to lets  all mix  and have fun.  I would ask you if you would  like
another  cuppa, or  another cake . !   If we were having Coffee  Original idea  from  http://parttimemonster.wordpress.com/

If We Were Having Coffee: Guest Post – Oct.12/2014

Upbeat People

Here we all are posed for the photo while having tea – a handsome group indeed

Paul your Barista

Paul your Barista

Welcome to Willow’s weekly coffee and tea garden. My name is Paul and I’m happy to be here once again in the garden tending to your needs for a cuppa, and sweets. As you can see above, it was reader photo day and aren’t we a handsome group? I’ll be happy to bring a pot of whatever beverage you prefer – we have a wide range of teas and coffees to satisfy our world-wide readership. We can relax with a cuppa and calorie free sweets while we discuss the affairs of the week both personal and/or worldwide. How has your week been?

Sound asleep

I’ll start our chat today with a funny that happened in dialysis Friday night. I get a different nurse each time, depending on their schedule. Friday night I had Marcie – a very funny, cheerful nurse of about my age who enjoys verbal jousting and is not above flirting (she’s single). We had a few good laughs as she was hooking me up to the dialysis machine. I had taken a prescription drug before entering dialysis that was designed to stop random leg muscle movements (called restless legs or crazy legs) which are sometimes a side effect of dialysis. This had been troubling me for a while and I had just gotten the prescription right. So, as soon as Marcie had me hooked up, I fell asleep -apparently a side effect of the drug for the side effect of dialysis. I slept very soundly, even through the unhooking at the end, the holding of the needle punctures to stop bleeding and the bandaging of the site. Normally, I would do the holding and help with other parts of the unhooking – but tonight I was dead to the world. Finally it was time to leave and Marcie had to shake me awake. My first response upon waking was to comment on the restless legs medication: “Wow that was awesome.” Of course Marcie did not know why I had slept through, had left the unhooking all to her, and she responded in a flat emotionless tone: “I’m glad it was good for you.” One of the passing nurses and another patient overheard us and burst into laughter. “You two sound like an old married couple.” It took me a minute to figure out what was going on and when I did I blushed and explained my comment and the new medication. We all shared a great laugh. Do you find that cheerful people keep your spirits up and make life so much more pleasant? Do you have any stories about situations where an individual made a positive difference because of their attitude?

Para Transpo Bus with Driver

Would you like another cuppa and a sweet? It’s a bit cool today, so the hot drink is feeling mighty warming.

I was on my way back home Friday and had a chat with the bus driver. I have a walking handicap from the dialysis treatment and so I qualify for handicapped transport – called Para Transpo here in Ottawa. It is an excellent service (in general) and with an appointment they pick me up at my door, drop me at the hospital

and then return me home afterwards. My driver tonight was a regular – an upbeat gentleman in his 50’s who always has a smile ready. I was early as dialysis had gone very well (no interruptions) and he was early as well – so we started out 15 minutes ahead of schedule. I asked him if he was done for the evening and he replied that he had one more pick-up after he dropped me off. I suggested his next customer would be happy to see him early, and he laughed and said he doubted that. He continued that his last pick up for the night was a young handicapped man who was returning from a local bar to his home. Apparently this was a regular Friday night pick-up and my driver felt somewhat awkward entering the bar to find the young man. He described the bar as an establishment for young people and said that every time he darkened the door everyone turned to check him out. He said the feeling was one of nervousness, as if they were all waiting for him to demand which of the bastards had gotten his daughter drunk the night before.

A Busy Pub Full of Young People – Hooley’s Pub, Ottawa

I found this amusing and wondered out loud at how our perceptions of our surroundings change as we age. Thirty years earlier, he or I could have walked into such a pub and no one would have even noticed us. He laughed and said that Para had a number of elderly ladies in their 70’s to 90’s that used the service to get back and forth to their local bar at the Legion Hall (The Royal Canadian Legion is a non-profit veterans’ organization started in the 1920’s – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Canadian_Legion). They would go in the afternoon and return home tipsy and happy that evening. My driver seemed to be implying that partying does not have to be confined to the youngsters. There is a place for all of us, no matter the age. Do you have any thoughts on that? Have you found that where you fit has changed as you grew older? Have your likes and dislikes around socializing changed over the years?

Royal Canadian Legion

Would you like another cuppa? I think I’ll have a sweet as well. Willow and I are honored that you dropped by the marquee in the garden today to visit. I hope you’ve

enjoyed yourself and the conversation and please feel free to look around at Willow’s other posts while you’re here. Have a great week. We look forward to seeing you here in the garden again next week.

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: HOT GOSSIP

Welcome , welcome to  you  all, how  are you  and what  have you been up to this last  week. Things  are still not letting up  for  me as far  as being busy  is concerned ! I just do not  have a lot  of time to even turn round or  even smell the coffee.  🙂

Now  where are  my  manners  come on  in  and get comfortable  as  you can see Paul  has  done a great  job with  the place , we even have a fantastic  set of cushions  to match  the marquee  and rugs!

This  is just one end  and we have different  themes  in different parts of  the marquee, we  shall be decorating  for Halloween, fireworks night, Thanks Giving  and Christmas  so if  anyone  wants  to suggest  an interior  or some  decorations  do please  send  me and Paul  a link  so we can incorporate  your  ideas in to our space . By our I mean yours, Paul’s and my  space!

IF WE WERE HAVING  COFFEE: I would  be so pleased to see you and very pleased  for the chance  to sit  down and have a cuppa  with you.

I do  try  not  to be  too controversial here  but I do think that  I should say  something  about  the latest murder of an innocent  man  by  Isil .  So far two Americans  James Foley and Steven Sotloff and two British men David Haines Alan Henning  have been beheaded  by  a nameless faceless shadow.  I am truly stunned  by  the barbarity and ugliness  of  the way  these men’s  lives  has been taken.  Not  only  were  they beheaded  but  also  videoed  and shown on youtube.  Apparently  another American  medic  has been named  as their  next victim. I pray  for him  but I ear  those who  hold him  and hide  their faces  appear to be without  mercy.

All this is very  sad well actually  sad  does  not quite  cover it, it is sad, dreadful  evil  even. I will not  say  any  more because I do not want  to politicize our  coffee space  but I would like to pray  for  all these killings  to end . Maybe whatever  your faith or creed  you could join me.

IF WE WERE HAVING  COFFEE: I would say  okay  that is all I wanted  to say on that  sad matter. Lets  move on . We  have had what is called an Indian Summer, this usually  means  beautiful  sunny  and hot  weather in late September  and early October. This

Still looks like summer

Still looks like summer

last week has been amazing  and so this  morning it was a disappointment  to awake  to a drop of 5 degrees  in temperature and pouring  rain!  But hey I am not  complaining  the gardens  really  do  need the rain !

Over  on  the left is  a photo I took on Wednesday  when the husband and I took an afternoon walk   by  the river it was so like the hight of summer, hot, sunny  and such a treat!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE:  I would regale  you with the great day I had  on Thursday  my  friend and I  had a another day trip into London. I had as I always do  enjoyed  Tangental’s   blog  and I had been enamoured  by  his  post  My kinda town  part 2   I do urge  you to pop over  to Geoff’s  blog I can really recommend it!

Well, armed with  Geoff’s   blog on  my  phone  and  a map  and suggestions  from  the husband, who  also worked in  the Fleet Street and Inns of  Court  areas  for many  years, probably  overlapping   and passing  each other on occasion! Well we had  a wonderful  day full of sun, fun and barristers, lawyers, students and cats !

We had a wonderful time. We had lunch at  the Ye old Cheshire Cheese and walked  miles. We  had a very nice young man, a lawyer, maybe a barrister  take our photo, he told us  we looked  like Kate Moss  we told  him  he needed glasses! We saw barristers  running around  carrying  robes, wigs  and brief cases.

We even saw one young lady  dressed to the nines, slip off her comfy  shoes  and put on her killer heels  before she entered one of the chambers! We smiled  at her and said  time  for your  big girl’s job shoes! she laughed and nodded in agreement !

time to head back home.

time to head back home.

We set off  for home after a lovely day  and in the evening we went out with our  husbands to celebrate  our  joint birthdays, a fortnight apart so we had chosen a date in between! Thanks Geoff for the post  that  gave us such a great day  and thanks hubby  for the extra  information

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: I would say  okay Saturday has been a total wash out, gym in the morning then shopping  in the afternoon, near row with hubby managed to avoid it by just ignoring him  until  he stopped moaning! Today Sunday  we are off out for a hog roast  with  really  good friends, so I am happy  about that.

So  come on  would  you like some  more cake, of  tea/ coffee, have you been over to  Paul’s amazing  part of  the Marquee he  certainly  is  worth a visit!

IF WE WERE HAVING COFFEE: I would ask you if you would  like another  cuppa, or  another cake . I’d  tell you I have really  come to enjoy  these chats  and I’d  love  to hear  what you would  tell me. Please feel free to stay  as long  as  you like  and don’t  forget  to visit  Paul’s  post  now  while  you are  here!   If we were having Coffee  Original idea  from  http://parttimemonster.wordpress.com/
