And then I dreamed… From Sue Vincent.

I spent the night with friends… more socially distanced than any pandemic ruling could possibly require…. and I’m tired. I didn’t sleep as much as I would have liked and spent a lot of the night tossing and turning. That is not as contradictory as it might seem, for it was when I did doze that I spent the time watching those I love wander across the screen of dreams. Though that is not quite a true depiction. I was in there with them.

And now I make no apologies for repeating myself: Did you know that the Sue Vincent Rodeo is now live.

Here is what Charlie Mills at The Carrot Ranch has to say “On Monday, Carrot Ranch will launch an event to celebrate Sue Vincent and her writing. There will be a “99” writing contest from February 1-19 with a suggested donation that goes directly to Sue. We want to make it a big deal beyond our trees of the writing woods, therefore it carries a $100 grand prize. There will also be a parade of sorts, a chance to gather together with Sue to share and reblog her posts in February. Be sure to tune in Monday for the full announcement. I’m so proud of all who have arranged this event, and volunteered to help. I’m proud of all of you whom I know will push this out far and wide to celebrate one of our own beloved writers.

February is going to be different at Carrot Ranch. Don’t let it throw you. I’ll be cloistered away, working on my thesis submission. I’m grateful to the community for carrying on.

Here’s a schedule for you so you know what to expect:

  • January 28 Special Collection Challenge to Honor the work of Sue Vincent
  • February 1-19: Sue Vincent Classic Rodeo Contest and Parade of Reblogs (announced Monday, February 1 at CarrotRanch.com/blog)
  • February 3 No Collection
  • February 4 Special Host: D. Avery
  • February 10 Special Host Collection
  • February 11 Sue Vincent Reblog Parade (no challenge)
  • February 17 Special Sue V Collection posted
  • February 18 Regular Flash Fiction Challenges return
  • February 19 Contest ends
  • March 22 Winner and Runners Up Announced

As you can see the contest is not the only way you can help, there’s always the “Parade”. Reblog one of Sue’s posts from any of her sites (Daily Echo or France and Vincent) with a comment about why you found it special. Follow her blogs. Read one of her books, then leave reviews where you can.

So go ahead and reblog, tweet, Facebook, or somehow otherwise share the contest! 99 word literary art is a fantastic way to celebrate a blogging hero and very deserving person.

Here are some links you can use if you want to write your own post. Or Reblog any.

The Truce

Tom and Stuart never saw eye to eye. They had been at odds since birth. Their parents could not understand how these identical twins could be so at odds.

The boys survived childhood fighting daily. Thankfully they attended different Universities. When they reached their thirties they decided on a truce. If they met professionally or socially in public they would not fight.

So they kept apart and both worked hard. The night of the Major Incident they were both called in . The Main co-ordinator called the fire chief and the senior Doctor to a meeting. As Tom (MD) and Stuart (Chief Fire Officer) entered the incident van, they bristled, old aggressions flared. Both took a deep breath and as they shook hands they both said. “When we’re together, we never fight, we’ve got better things to do tonight…”

 So they set to, to save as many lives as possible. Those around them, who knew them well breathed a sigh of relief.

The Chinook : #Flash4Storms

Sarah Brentyn of Lemon Shark has set up a wonderful challenge with a promise to donate money to a very worthy cause. Here is what she has to say.

Harvey, Irma, Maria… These hurricanes have hit hard, leaving massive damage in their wakes. Here’s how you can help:

1. Write a piece of flash fiction in 50 words or less with the theme: Help
(This can be any sort of assistance, support, encouragement, or a story of someone or something that needs help. You do not need to use the prompt word. Be creative! It can be 50 words, 15 words…even a six-word story. Anything goes provided it is prose up to 50 words. It doesn’t have to be sunshine and rainbows but keep it PG and friendly.)
2. Add a new post on your blog with your flash fiction and the hashtag #Flash4Storms in the title
3. Link to this post
4. Leave a comment here with a link to your post so I know you’ve participated
5. Help spread the word on social media with the hashtags:

#Flash4Storms #LemonSharkCharity

I will donate $1 to hurricane relief for every flash that is posted (up to $50).

And to top it all, Diana WP of Myths Of The Mirrorhas decided to match the donation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the storm came the calm. Nothing moved , it was so silent  the rain and the wind for now apeased. They looked around nothing untouched nothing whole.
What to do they all wandered then the noise stared up again…..it was the sound of a Chinook the sound of help.
