The last days

Rows of empty houses lining empty street ,I do not feel frightened for there is no one left to meet.

Everywhere is hopeless everywhere the same there is a menace hanging in the air a menace with no name.

It is hanging from the branches and draping on the ground  no good to look for comfort there is none to be found.

The sky is looking heavy as if it could hold snow , the birds are undecided whether to stay or whether to go.

The temperature is rising as the darkness seems to grow I feel an urge to hide and it is pulling me below.

There are cars galore for us to drive but there is no where to go, there is electric and gas and water they just left it all to flow.

Everything is still working  so everything is free so for those of us who decided to stay it could be one big party.

They left the the planet tidy the streets are all nice and clear but everywhere I walk now I get the scent of fear!

It is hanging from the branches and draping on the ground  no good to look for comfort, there is none to be found.

The sky is looking heavy as if it could hold snow , the birds are undecided whether to stay or whether to go.

The temperature is rising as the darkness seems to grow I feel an urge to hide and it is pulling me below.

The last ships left the planet just over a month ago those of us that staid

did so because there just is no place to go.

The temperature is rising and yet it still stays dark, I am grateful for that

because if it where bright and hot the devastation would be so very stark.

The sky is looking heavy as if it could hold snow , the birds are undecided whether to stay or whether to go.

The temperature is rising as the darkness seems to grow I feel an urge to hide and it is pulling me below.

The dread is at our ankles pulling us below, pulling us to the coolness

of the drains below. Dragging our spirits through the  drain holes and pulling

our hopes through the cracks down through all the holes and lining our souls up in stacks.

We had made the decision to stay preferring a quick death to the unknown .  We did  not want years of travelling with strangers  in search of an elusive home.

We waved them off with smiles and glasses in our hands , they had no idea what they faced but we had party plans.

Yet the sky is looking heavy as if it could hold snow , the birds are undecided whether to stay or whether to go.

The temperature is rising as the darkness seems to grow I feel an urge to hide and it is pulling me below.

We cannot last much longer the days and nights so adverse so cold at night you shiver and so hot at day you curse.

There is nothing we can do now the earth has lost it way  at first she was dying

slowly  but by us humans she has been betrayed.

There is no hope left, no  last minute cure, the populous departed gone to who

knows  where and us mad souls  left here gather together to party and to stare!

Still the sky is looking heavy as if it could hold snow , the birds are undecided whether to stay or whether to go.

The temperature is rising as the darkness seems to grow I feel an urge to hide and it is pulling me below.

If anyone ever comes back and finds this scribbled note , if the sun has devoured

this planet please take heed of what I have wrote. We have taken  an ideal planet

with water air  light and dragged it down and killed it so all of us who lived here

had to pack up and fly off into endless night.

Those of us who are left here are making the most of what there is left  for soon there will be nothing remaining and  we will all be dead. And this planet will be  a dead rock, bereft.
