Song Lyric Sunday. Chat/Laugh/Rant/Scream/Talk

This week our host Jim Adams has given us the prompt Chat/Laugh/Rant/Scream/Talk  for Song Lyric Sunday.

I have chosen I only wanna laugh by Dusty Springfield. I am afraid I am not very keen on this song but it fitted the prompt and I do love Dusty.

A little bit of trivia I think I may of this is mentioned before. I want to the same school as Dusty in Northfields Ealing. I was a lot younger than her but my eldest sister Theresa was in the same class and new her.

Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O’BrienOBE (16 April 1939 – 2 March 1999), professionally known as Dusty Springfield, was an English pop singer and record producer whose career extended from the late 1950s to the 1990s. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was an important singer of blue-eyed soul and at her peak was one of the most successful British female performers, with six top 20 singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 and sixteen on the UK Singles Chart from 1963 to 1989. She is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and UK Music Hall of Fame. International polls have named Springfield among the best female rock artists of all time. Her image, supported by a peroxide blonde bouffant hairstyle, evening gowns, and heavy make-up, as well as her flamboyant performances, made her an icon of the Swinging Sixties.

“I Only Wanna Laugh”

Change the mood I’m in
For a little while
Let me see that grin
Let me see you smile

No soulful tales that fret and frown
No woeful wails that get me down
No rights or wrongs
Sing no sad songs for me

I only wanna laugh
No time for crying
I only wanna laugh
No time for tears

I only wanna sing
A song that’s happy
That’s why I only wanna walk a street that’s sunny
I only wanna see the side that’s funny

I’m saving all of my tears until tomorrow
‘Cause crying all my tears
Just ain’t my style
I’m acting like a clown
But let me be
‘Cause even though I know
The joke’s on me
I only wanna laugh
Only wanna laugh
Only wanna laugh

I’m saving all of my tears until tomorrow
‘Cause crying all my tears
Baby, just ain’t my style
I’m acting like a clown
But let me be
‘Cause even though the joke’s on me, oh
Tell the girls goodbye
‘Cause I don’t wanna cry
Hey
I only wanna laugh
Only wanna laugh
Only wanna laugh.

AtoZ Lyrics

The song I wanna laugh comes from the musical Jimmy. It is a musical with a score by Bill Jacob, lyrics by Patti Jacob, dance arrangements by John Berkman, and a book by Melville Shavelson and Morrie Ryskind. The musical describes the rise and fall of New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker, whose career was marred by corruption. It was a romanticised version of Walker’s tenure as mayor, as presented in the 1957 film Beau James, starring Bob Hope.[1] The film came from a biography of Walker, also titled Beau James, written by Gene Fowler.

Jimmy had a brief Broadway run from October 1969 to January 1970, starring Frank Gorshin as Walker, Anita Gillette as Betty Compton and Julie Wilson.[2]Jack L Warner and Don Saxon produced the original Broadway production under the direction of Joseph Anthony. It was not critically acclaimed. Information from Wikipedia.

Happy Sunday Everyone.

Musicalmarch Day 29, Dusty Springfield.

Blog Sis Ritu at  But  I smile anyway has come up with another

challenge for us this month Musicalmarch.

Ritu  said  : “Nothing too serious or tedious.Just a chance to share some songs! If you fancy posting a song for any reason this March, tag it #musicalmarch

Today is Day 29 of #musicalmarch and today I want to share the Fabulous Dusty Springfield with you. Dusty was a wonderful singer and could sing any type of song, literally any style.

As a point of interest she went to school with my eldest sister, she was not the blonde Dusty then but redhaird Mary O’Brian.

I have picked two songs her very first solo record,I only want to be with you, 1963 and one of her much later songs recorded with the Petshop Boys from circa 1987.

I love Dusty’s voice it just got better with age. Hope you all enjoy 💝
