It’s Sunday again and time for Jim Adam’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt. So it’s all down to our local coffee shop where Jims in the chair!
My first choice is “Another cup of coffee from the Beggar on a Beach of Gold album by Mike + the Mechanics, released on 6 March 1995. This album contained three UK hits, the No.12 hit “Over My Shoulder”, the No.33 hit “A Beggar on a Beach of Gold”, and the No.51 hit “Another Cup of Coffee”. All three songs charted in Germany as well, and “Another Cup of Coffee” was also popular in Russia; “Over My Shoulder” was particularly successful in France, reaching No.9. The album was certified Gold by the BPI for sales of 100,000 copies. Adrian Lee performed on this album as a session musician following his departure from the band, and this was drummer Peter Van Hooke‘s last album as an official member of the band as he left the band shortly after the album’s release. “Another Cup Of Coffee”
And she pours herself another cup of coffee
As she contemplates the stain across the wall
and it’s in between the cleaning and the washing
That’s when looking back’s
The hardest part of all
And she always did her best to try and please him
While he always did his best to make her cry
And she got down on her knees to stop him leaving
But he always knew one day he’d say goodbye
Where are your friends
Where are your children
Is this your house
Is this your home
Does nothing ever last forever
Does everybody sleep alone
And he tears the business tags from his old suitcase
As he packs away the pieces of his life
They all love him but they always try to change him
That’s what happens when a girl becomes a wife
And she pours herself another cup of coffee
As the pictures leave a clean space on the wall
and it’s in between the leaving and the loving
That’s when looking back’s
The hardest part of all
Where are your friends
Where are your children
Is this your house
Is this your home
Does nothing ever last forever
Does everybody sleep alone
Don’t look back
Don’t give up
Pour yourself another cup.

“Taylor, the Latte Boy” is a contemporary song by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. It is based on their experience with a barista at Starbucks. It is best known for being performed by Kristin Chenoweth on her album As I Am but was first released by Susan Egan on her 2004 album Coffee House.
The song details the infatuation the narrator has for the coffee boy at Starbucks. She introduces herself and takes various actions to be signs of his affection. She even goes to the extent of saying “I love him, I love him, I love him.”
Regarding the lyrics, Heisler said, “So many of the stories come from my own experience, my own life, I don’t think that much about it… A singer will call and say, ‘What was the motivation?’ I went into a coffee shop and met a cute boy. No Brechtian overtones.” Information from here.
