Song Lyric Sunday:July 10, 2022 – Not for me thanks, Regrets?

Jim Adams

This week our prompt for Song Lyric Sunday from Jim Adams is: Songs that were turned down by recording artists that went on to become big hits. Jim is Still away so it’s over to Fandango’s .. thank you for hosting Fandango! Sorry I should of put the link to his page in earlier!

I have chosen to go back to 1980. Three years before my last son was born. I had two sons and plenty to keep me busy!

Call me Blondies big hit was first offered to Stevie Nick’s of Fleetwood Mac fame. Okay, this is one song both artists could have rocked. Producer Giorgio Moroder first approached Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and asked her to help write a song for the 1980 film American Gigolo. After declining, Debbie Harry came on board and the rest, as they say, is history! I for one are delighted by that fact! Yea! Debbie Harry and Blondie!

.

Color me your color, baby
Color me your car
Color me your color, darling
I know who you are
Come up off your color chart
I know where you’re coming from

Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) I’ll arrive
You can call me any day or night
Call me

Cover me with kisses, baby
Cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets
I’ll never get enough
Emotions come, I don’t know why
Cover up love’s alibi

Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) I’ll arrive
When you’re ready we can share the wine
Call me

Oooh, he speaks the languages of love
Oooh, amore, chiamami, chiamami
Oooh, appelle-moi mon cheri, appelle-moi
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, any way
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, any day, any way

Call me

Take me out and show me off
And put me on the scene
Dress me in the fashions of the 1980’s
You’re a man, no in-between
You know what your words can mean

Call me (call me) my love
Call me, call me and we’ll take a ride
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me in to overtime
Call me

Call me (call me) my love
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) for a ride
Call me, call me for some overtime
Call me (call me) in my life
Call me, call me in a sweet design
Call me (call me), call me for your lover’s lover’s alibi
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime

Call me, ah-ha, call me, ah-ha-ha
Call me, ah-ha-ha, call me any day or night
Call me, ooh-ooh-ah-ha-ha, ooh-ooh-ha-ha-ha
Call me, ah-ah-ooh
Call me, my, my, my sleek design
Call me for a ride, call me inside
Call me, ah-ha, call me, ah-ha
Call me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ah-ah-ah

Call me (call me) my love
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) for a ride
Call me, call me for some overtime
Call me (call me) in my life
Call me, call me in a sweet design
Call me (call me), call me for your lover’s lover’s alibi
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me)
Ooh, call me, mmm-hhmm
Call me (call me) my love
