Tanka Tuesday Specific Form Prompt: colorful blocks spell: specific

Colleen, our mentor, said:This week’s challenge is to write a specific form with a twist! And I messed it up, I did not use the words she provided for us. Which are:

MAGICAL CHARM, SPECTER, FANTASY, CONJURE, UNICORN, IMAGINATON, ORACLE , MALEVOLENCE.

Write an acrostic poem with a syllable count of 8, 9, or 10 syllables per line (all the same, or a mixture of syllable counts, is fine).

Now I did not read the challenge properly and used my own word , Space… Well Colleen pointed this out to me. So here is my second and correct entry .

I chose SPECTER and used the syllables in each line of Eight, Nine, Nine, Eight, Eight, Ten, Ten.

Spirit of the dark a ghostly
P

E

C

E

Today I am thinking of Space and my wish to be there. So my acrostic poem is SPACE. The syllablic count are as the lines run , eight, nine, ten, eight, ten in five lines.

Space

Spanning infinitesimal
Phenomenal beauty far beyond
All imagination bathed in silence
Cosmic holes filled with stars and dust
Eternal drifting, never ending space

Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 20th, 2023

Our host LindaGHill is here again with our daily prompt for JuJoJan and here’s what she said: “Hi! I’m here with your daily prompt. Today is our twentieth prompt for Just Jot it January 2023, and it’s brought to us by Tuba. Thank you, Tuba! Please be sure to visit Tuba’s blog to read her posts and say hello. And follow her while you’re there, if you’re not already.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 20th 2023, is “phantom.” Use the word “phantom” any way you’d like. Have fun!

If you’d like to see what I have so far on your prompt list and what’s to come, you can find it HERE.

Phantom, that’s a neat word, it can refer to pregnancy, symptoms, people, creatures, ghosts and the supernatural.

The Lloyd/ Webber musical and film are among my favourite stories and the music 🎶 and singing are amazing. I thought though let’s go sideways and listen to Nightwish a Heavy metal, symphonic metal, power metal group from Finland, with female Dutch singer Floor Jansen. Floor has an amazing voice she can sing soprano with a range of more than three octaves (C3 to F6). As well as rasping rock and heavy metal.

The male singer Marko Tapani Hietala so has a fantastic voice though not operatic in the real sense but with power depth and feeling and brilliant diction. I hear ever word from both singers.

Just look at how they have the young audience in their hands, bmoving them and showing them how opera and metal can mix.

Did I say how much I like long hair on a guy?

To finnish ( do you see what I did there?) An acrostic poem .

Phantom

Phantasmagorical sights
Hold you under their spell
Alluring spectres give your desires flight
Night terrors drag you to hell
Tormenting your mind and soul
Only to leave you naked while
Macarbre creatures eat you whole

Hopelessness

image  from here

Hopelessness Acrostic.

Hope left with not even a goodbye

Off  it  went  regardless of my  cry

Paralyised with fear unable to fly.

Ever ready  to  surround  me

Loneliness  grabbed me so I could not  flee

Eager  to entrap me in it’s hold

Sinister  horror  surrounds  me whole

Slipping ever  further  from reality

Never knowing  if  ever again I will be free

Endless  questions  beset  my mind

Smothering me with hopelessness unkind

Sinking  deep into  the abyss, lost alone death  would be bliss.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Sept. 5/2020

Scathing, like citus

His words like a vipers tongue

Antidote unknown

Rip my being from my chest

Plunging your sharp words deeply

COLLEEN’S 2020 WEEKLY #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 193, #POET’SCHOICE

It’s the first of the month and you know what that means! Poets, choose your own syllabic poetry form, theme, words, images, etc. It’s up to you! So I chose to do an Acrostic Poem September.

Summer is almost gone
Evidence of Autumn on its way.
Plethora of leaves begin to fall
Trees change colours standing tall
Embers from bonfires fly
Monsters prepare for Halloween
Beasts and witches , best you’ve seen.
Evenings start to draw in
Renewal, harvest feasts with kin.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 23/2020

ShelleyKupa

Its Saturday and time for LindaGHill’s #SoCs, this week Linda gave us this prompt. “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ch.” Find a word that starts with “ch” and use it as your prompt word. Bonus points if you start your post with that word. Enjoy!

I have chosen to write an Acrostic Nonet entitled Changeling. Mind you there are ten letters in changeling and as I wanted to write a Nonet and not an Etheree I repeated the five syllable line twice…Poetic licence.

Charlotte and Charles so desired a child

Heaven and Earth they would of moved

All types of potions were tried

Never did they conceed

Glady they tried spells

Each one much stronger

Long lost magic

It worked by

Nature’s

Grace.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 13/19

It’s Saturday again and time for Lindaghill’s #SoCs. This week Linda said:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “instructions.” Write instructions for anything you know how to do. As detailed or as rambling as you’d like. Enjoy!

Instructions on writing an Acrostic poem. Acrostically.

If you want to write an Acrostic

Note one : it is not magic.

SoCs now that is different

Think of words that’s the intent

Remember it has to spell

Unerringly on the left

Correctly and make sense

Truly I’ve failed, looked dense.

In following the above

On the instructions given with love

None of you can fail

Soon your poem will done.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Feb. 16/19 Yawn

Well ten minutes ago I had a brilliant idea for #SoCs. Then I got distracted by some some beautiful posts in my reader and here I am clueless as to what this world changing post was about!pro

Well it most definitely was something to do with a yawn. How do I remember that. Easy because this week Linda G.Hill said : ” Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “yawn.” Write about the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the word “yawn,” when you sit down to write your post. Enjoy!”

Now our Ruby yawns a lot, she yawns if she feels someone or something is invading her space, or if she is confused or bored and of course she yawns if she is tired.

Us humans yawn when tired, stressed or lacking oxygen. have you ever yawned and felt your jaw lock… oh my that can be so painful! Also if one person in a room yawns it is very  catching and everyone in  the room yawns. Now as you can see I am rambling on here and it is no doubt very boring. Very much unlike the wonderful post I was going to write had it escaped my brain and vanished into the either never to be seen again.

To save further embarrassment I have  added s to Yawn and  written an Acrostic Tanka.

Yawn

Yes we have to yawn

All of us as soon as born

Will know how to yawn

No one is exempt no one

So cover your mouth and yawn.
