The A Mused Poetry Contest 9/19 – 9/25/2020

Chelsea Owens has challenged us to have some fun. Rule one below.

Seasons are changing. The Theme is a funny haiku (or, more technically accurate, a senryu) about seasonal change. Spring, fall, summer, winter, autumn; whatever.

Days are getting short
Gaia’s tempers getting fraught
We just won’t be taught

All rules for this prompt can be found at Chelsea’s post.

Happy Autumn 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍁🍁🍁

COLLEEN’S 2020 WEEKLY #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 196, #THEMEPROMPT

Happy Mabon! Today is the Autumnal Equinox! It’s the fourth week of the month! Are you ready for a theme prompt? Franci Hoffman, aka Eugi’s Causerie II, from last month’s challenge picked the theme. This month’s theme is:

The Night Sky

Hail
Darkness
Spotted by
Sparkling diamonds
Cool,crisp, magical
Sweet ,fresh air wafts about
Dreams come easier with blessed
Dark starry nights they’re always best.
After the heat of an Autumn day.
The blessed night washes our sins away
.

Ronovan Writes Décima Poetry Challenge Prompt No. 23 (FALL) This week, it’s the B rhyme line.

A Décima with fall to rhyme with the B line and to incorporate the words wings and clipped from Monday’s Ronovanwrite’s Weekly Haiku Challenge.

Autumn

Summers wings, well and truly clipped
Autumn is here and leaves will fall.
Smoke rises from the bonfires pall.
Harvest of fruits exotic sipped
Dancing leaves like fairies have tripped.
Squirrels gathering winter’s stores
Birds migrating to foreign shores.
The nights are drawing in so fast
Later mornings, bright sunrise past.
Acorns, chestnuts line woodland floors.

COLLEEN’S 2020 WEEKLY #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 193, #POET’SCHOICE

It’s the first of the month and you know what that means! Poets, choose your own syllabic poetry form, theme, words, images, etc. It’s up to you! So I chose to do an Acrostic Poem September.

Summer is almost gone
Evidence of Autumn on its way.
Plethora of leaves begin to fall
Trees change colours standing tall
Embers from bonfires fly
Monsters prepare for Halloween
Beasts and witches , best you’ve seen.
Evenings start to draw in
Renewal, harvest feasts with kin.

Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 155 #SynonymsOnly or #Theme-Thanksgiving

This week you have a choice. You can write about the #Theme of Thanksgiving (thankful, grateful, family, etc. whatever that word means to you)

OR

here are your two words for this week:

“End & Hurry”

Hopefully they travelled
Across the Atlantic Ocean
Praying for safe delivery
Pleased at first sight of land
Yearning for all they had left behind
Thankful to be safely delivered
Hopeful of a brave new world
Aching in soul and body
No one shirked their duties
Kindred spirits they worked together
Spring, Summer and Autumn brought their hardships
Giving thanks to their God
Indians watched them from afar
Vainly struggling in a hostile world
In fear they struggled but
Never giving up they reached harvest
God saw them through and they gave thanks.

So as I did an Acrostic poem which is not within our remit so here is a Tanka. A synonymous Tanka not using the words End and Hurry.

Thanksgiving Tanka
It comes to a close
The year gently closing down
Only to speed up
Thanksgiving with family
It all ends so happily.

This is part of Colleen’s Tuesday Tanka.

Autumn Walk Acrostic Etheree.

Hello here is an Ascrostic Etheree about Autumn leaves.
An
Untouched
Trail of leaves
Unsullied, fresh
Mask slippery mud
Newly formed after rain
***
We trudge along happily
Autumn colours brightening our
Lives as Ruby and I walk along
Kicking up red and gold leaves as we go.

Colleen’s 2019 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 152, #Poet’sChoice

It’s the first of the month and you know what that means! Poets choose your own words.

This challenge is for Haiku, Senryu, Haiga, Tanka, Haibun, Etheree, Nonet, Shadorma, and Cinquain poetry forms.

So what to choose it is Autumn and all that entails so here we go. I think I will go with a Tanka. My two words are Cold and Dead. I believe the rules on the first of the month mean we don’t need synonyms. So here is an Autumnal Tanka.

This is part of Colleen’s Tuesday Tanka Challenge.

Cold, damp Autumn days
Burning leaves, and bonfire haze
Dark early, cosy up
Harvest in, the ground is dead
Hopes and dreams for life ahead.

All Hallows Eve

Image from Pixabay

Bones are creaking, chains are rattling

Blood is flowing and spirits are battling.

Bats and owls in flight.

Pumpkins lanterns all alight

Witches ready out to go.

Screaming winds start to blow.

Evil spectres and vampires take to flight ,

Zombies stir ready for a wicked night.

Moans and groans all around

Echoing making spooky sound.

It is no use to pray this day,

All unholy things are out to play.

Will we all survive the night,
Or will all our senses all take flight.

Is that Vlad out seeking fun

With his friend Death evading the sun?

They are trouble together abroad

Wreaking havoc when they get board.

Image © willowdot21 2019

Little children unaware

Of the dangers lurking there.

Cruise through the streets

Knocking on doors for tick or treat

Collecting untested Halloween fare.
There may be evil spirits behind doors hiding .
Watch out for the Grim Reaper out a riding.

So dear friends I bid you safe,
At this time of loss of faith.
Hold on fast to your hearts and souls
Be careful demons pour your blood into bowls.
Tortures horrendous can await

Behind each door or garden gate.

You do not want your guts served upon a plate!

So there is just one thing left to do.

Wave from my broomstick and bid you well
And safe from all the slavering hounds of hell!
