Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 17th, 2023

It’s Tuesday and LindaGHill our host for JusJoJan and here’s what she had to say: ” Hey! I’m here with your seventeenth prompt for Just Jot it January 2023, and it’s brought to you by Sally. Thank you, Sally! Please be sure to visit Sally’s blog to read her posts and say hello. And follow her while you’re there, if you’re not already.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 17th 2023, is “hyphenated.” Use the word “hyphenated” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

If you’d like to see what I have so far on your prompt list and what’s to come, you can find it HERE.”

Did you know:

A hyphenated ethnicity (or rarely hyphenated identity) is a reference to an ethnicity, pan-ethnicity, national origin, or national identity combined with the demonym of a country of citizenship-nationality, another national identity, or in some cases country of residency or country of upbringing. The term is an extension of the term “hyphenated American”. The term refers to the use of a hyphen between the name of an ethnicity and the name of the country in compound nouns: Irish-American, etc., although modern English language style guides recommend dropping the hyphen: “Irish American”.The concept should not be confused with that of mixed ethnicity and multiraciality, i.e., the ethnicity or race of a person whose parents have different ethnicities/races, which can also be written in a hyphenated way. More info at Wiki.

Then there are hyphenated names usually your and your partner’s last names, connected with—you guessed it—a hyphenWhich means your maiden name and your partners name. Very often it could be that the woman is well known in her chosen profession and wants to keep her name . Or it could be a marriage of to prominent families.

So if Miss Jones might marry Mr Cody so the name could be Jones-Cody or Cody-Jones. This can be applied to any surnames and the order is of personal preference.

Then there is the fairly new fashion of hyphenated first names such as Amy-Rose , Nicola – Jane, Mary- Ann in my day there were no hyphens in first names!

Well I am afraid that’s all I have to say on the matter there are more types of hyphenated words like Mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother -in -law, father-in-law. In-depth, un- inhabited. In-depth, in-between, and many many more.

Here is a hyphenated song title Roxy Music – “Re-make/Re-model” and here it is 💜

I hope I have not bored you to death … Wake-up 🫢

TANKA TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGES#TankaTuesday Weekly #Poetry

Challenge No. 303, 1/17/23WELCOME TO #TANKATUESDAY!短歌 火曜日

This week Colleen said:

“Did you know we have a haiku-like form that doesn’t use a kigo or kireji? It’s called a senryū. (I mostly use senryu, so you will see the word spelled both ways).

Senryū is a Japanese form similar to haiku: three lines with a s-l-s syllable count up to 17 syllables.” So Colleen has set us the task of writing a senryu or a set of senryu. Today I do not have much time so I am just writing one but it has my heart and soul in it.

My heart is pounding
Coursing blood does not warm me
Fear is primeval
