An Interview With Dan Antion ! The Evil We Choose.

Hi everyone, I know I have been very quiet of late but I am hopefully back ! Today I am delighted to have Dan Antion of NoFacilities here visiting me to discuss his new book, part two of The Dreamers Alliance , The Evil You Choose.

“Hi Dan it’s really great to see you come on in, let’s go through to the garden and take a seat . Ruby is ready out there sleeping. You’ve certainly picked a great afternoon for us to have tea and a chat about Book 2 in your series The Dreamers Alliance, Knuckleheads.”

Hi willow it’s good to be here, it’s nice and restful here considering how central to the town you are. I’ll just take a seat here if I may.

“And to drink Dan? I am having a black coffee but I do have all types of tea in just for you.”Yes do sit there you have the shade and a nice view.
What can I interest you in? something to eat? we have the typically English sandwiches, cream cheese and salmon , ham and cheese, coronation chicken…ect., cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam.”
“I try one of each willow they are small and delicate.. not like the sandwiches back home. Not much more than a bite each. I think I’ll try some earl grey Please”

“Now then, let’s talk about the book.
What gave you the idea for Dreamers Alliance, Knuckleheads and The Evil You Choose. Did both books come to you as a done deal or did you start the first book and find there was just so much more to write.”

“I actually started this series with The Evil You Choose. I was trying to work in a lot, probably too much of the backstory when it was suggested that maybe the backstory could be a separate book. I set The Evil You Choose aside and wrote Knuckleheads.”

“I believe you said they can be read as stand alone stories….is that correct…I have actually read both books and yes indeed they both stand alone well but they are great as a pair. Here try one of these beef and horseradish sandwiches they are very tasty.”

“Cheers… yes they do have a kick. The books yes I wanted to write them so they could stand on their own, but everyone who has read both agrees that the second book is better if you had read Knuckleheads first. There’s a third book in the series as well. That is a sequel to the current book, and will be released in late November. The third book, working title, “When Evil Chooses You,” is a true sequel.”

“I like the sound of a third book Dan, I shall definitely be up for reading that one too. When I finished reading The Evil You Choose, I really wanted more? So how long have you been writing this story? Have you found it hard or have experienced being along for the ride while the story wrote itself? Can I offer you a piece cake or a scone?

“The Victoria Sponge looks very light willow I think I will try some of that, did you make it?

I started writing The Evil You Choose in early 2020, shortly after I retired. I thought I would have it finished by July or August, then I switched to Knuckleheads. I finished a rough draft of that fairly quickly, but I already had an idea for a sequel. I started working on that, to make sure the entire story would hang together. By the spring of 2021, I had drafts of all three books. Several people had suggested waiting until all three were complete before releasing any of the series, since events might need to change. That turned out to be excellent advice, as all three books have changed over time. I thought I was ready to release the books in March 2022. I ordered proof copies and began working with my beta readers and proofreaders.”

I find, Dan I can write absolutely anywhere and do , but do you have a special place where you write , a room, a shed or do you just write just like me do you write where ever ? How is the cake? ” More tea?

“The cake is very moist and so are these scones did you make them all willow.”

“I made the cakes and sandwiches but the scones are made by hubby he’s an excellent cook not unlike your Billy. “

“Well he does have a light touch willow your lucky. Where do I write? most of the three books have been written at a small desk in our bedroom. I am comfortable there, and its size prevents me from cluttering it with distractions. I built the desk, and I guess that fact helps me to feel creative in that space.”

“Are there parts of this story that you have drawn from your personal life or have you plucked it all out of the either Dan?”

“I do experience lucid dreams. I have since I was a teenager. I am not able to travel in them like Zach, but I often become aware of the fact that I am dreaming, and I can change the nature of a dream. The childhood portions of Knuckleheads are drawn from my own experience, and those of my brother and a few close friends. I found it impossible to make up a different childhood. I wouldn’t know what it would have been like. All three books are set in the area around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am very familiar with that area and although I’ve lived on both coasts, and in New York City and briefly in the south, I think Pittsburgh is the most interesting place I’ve ever lived.

I also had several friends who were labeled as being “mildly retarded” or were considered “abnormal” and suffered from isolation when we were in school. The school systems were very crowded in the 1960s, and they really didn’t have time to deal with these kids. The character of Billy is a composite of those kids. There is no one person that is Billy, or Zach, but I understand both characters.”

I can understand that well Dan, I was isolated at school, by teachers and piers… Like Billy I had a couple of good friends and apart from them I kept very much under the radar. Thankfully we all grow up and experiences like that often makes us stronger “

How about we visit my local pub later and I can review your two books. But first Dan? Here are the important links for everyone to visit!

The Blurb The Evil You Choose.

Zach Amstead had kept his ability to participate in lucid dreams a secret for over fifty years However, in the high-tech world of the 21st century, he has been discovered by an FBI Special Agent who has a corrupt agenda and who is willing to employ illegal tactics while working toward his goal.

Thomas Slocum gives Zach a choice – cooperate in an illegal operation or be arrested as a terrorist. Slocum’s plan puts Zach on a collision course with organized crime leaders, a corrupt politician and brings innocent people into dangerous situations. Worse, the FBI process which allowed Slocum to uncover Zach’s abilities threatens to expose the abilities of his best friend, Billy.

Zach must get ahead of the FBI in a dangerous race. He must protect Billy, and he must choose where along the spectrum of good and evil he can place his trust.

Well Dan it’s been great to have you here to sit and chat, I have really enjoyed talking about your new book. I hope you can come again soon. Maybe when the third part of the trilogy is out.

Keep an eye out everyone out everyone I shall be reviewing books one and two very soon.

Female, wife, full time mother and Grandmother. I am not as happy go lucky as I used to be but I am still bubbling along on simmer! I have three handsome sons all grown and flown. The youngest married with a beautiful wife and two sons of his own. Back in 2010 I was working, running a home, driving and socializing then bang in a split second all that was gone. I had an accident at home. I broke my back, not for the first time, I had broken it 10 years previously as well. Unfortunately this time I had broken it really badly and it was truly messed up so I had to have two operations. I was told before each operation that the outcome could mean I spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Still as some guy once wrote "I am still standing " yes "better than I ever was " I no longer use the walking stick . I had lots of friends before the accident but when things like this happen, you loose most of them. Their lives move on and mine stood still and so they left me behind ...I know that is just the way life is but it hurt and always will. Then I looked around and saw those who were still there for me, these friends are the roses in my garden they need to be tended well. They are the diamonds in the dust. I will of been married 53yrs this comming year. I have found different ways to approach life, use my pain befriend it almost...yer right , well that is what they tell me at the pain clinic ROFLMAO ...... if only I could! I have found an outlet for my fears, frustrations and night terrors . I have started writing poetry if that name can be applied to my writing. I hope I do not come over as a moaning winger. I hope I am past all that. I also hope that you might see how the poetry is moving from very dark through the grey and hopefully in to light. My back is no longer straight it is C shaped because of the injury and I have lost two and a half inches in height but my Pilates and Core teachers have helped me to stand up as straight and be as strong as possible. Pain and depression are still hanging on my arm but I have weapons to use against them and if I say so myself I cope well. I have made lots of new friends, real diamonds. I am also very grateful for all the support and help I have encountered here on Wordpress. Hugs and welcome to everyone who visits.

    1. A little easier for you to drop in, Ritu. This was so much fun, and I was able to have a proper cup of tea (which I rarely make for myself). Willow was wonderful to do this interview. I’m so glad she enjoyed the books.

  1. Great interview! It felt like you took me there enjoyed the tea and discussion with Dan and you. I enjoyed it.

    1. Those scones were delicious, Cheryl. My favorite were the beef and horseradish sandwiches. A nice tea, delicious food and being interviewed by a charming host. This positively made my day.

  2. Willow, this was wonderful! I finally had a proper cup of tea (I won’t tell you how I make mine, but my wife shakes her head each time) and some delicious sandwiches and cakes. I am so glad you enjoyed these two books, and I can’t thank you enough for helping me promote them.

    1. It has been a real pleasure Dan, and it’s good that you’ve had a proper cuppa! I shall be doing a review on both books soon too. Wishing you lots of luck with the series it’s brilliant so far!! 💜

  4. Hi Willow and Dan – interesting to read about how the book develops and where Dan’s ideas have come from … they both sound fascinating … and I will get to read them. The English tea sounds perfect … lots of tea and some of those goodies … I agree with Dan re beef and horseradish sandwiches … Now I must drink my ‘poor’ tea – just plain tea! Cheers to you both – Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary thank you so much for dropping in I can really say I read both books avidly and begrudged putting them down! …. ( I have a confession, I prefer coffee to tea) 💜

    2. Thanks for joining us, Hilary. Those sandwiches were excellent. Willow in an excellent host, and it’s so good to hear someone say they enjoyed these books.

  5. Willow, this tea looks divine. It reminds me of a time years ago when I had high tea at a historic restaurant in Albuquerque.
It was fun to sit with you and Dan for this discussion. Wishing him continued success with this series. Hugs all around.

    1. Thank you Teagan, gosh I bet that tea was posh! It is always a pleasure to have you pop in. I think these books will be a great success , hugs back 💜

  7. What a wonderful interview with Dan! I love all the questions and his answers. I’m looking forward to reading this book. All the food and tea look scrumptions! You’re a great host, Willow!

    1. Thanks for hopping over, Jan. Willow has been a great host and asked some interesting questions. This was a big step over the fancy line for a guy like me, but I enjoyed it. This was fun.

  8. Such a nice place to sit and chat about Dan’s book, Willow. Thanks for inviting us along. The books are all great and I highly recommend reading them in order as a series. Hi Dan! 🙌🏻

      1. I will soon. Right now I am still in research and have a bunch waiting to be read. But I will get to them – as long as the creek don’t rise!! lol

    1. I’m glad you could join us, GP. This was a lot of fun. I hope you’re safe in FL. It looks like Ian crossed away from you, but I’m bad at geography. That’s storm’s packing a lot of water.

      1. Yes it did. We had rain and wind on and off from a feeder-band, and a tornado touched down about 2 miles away, but nothing to worry about.

  9. A great tea party and wonderful guest! I’m a third of the way through The Evil You Choose and am enjoying it as much as I did the first book. I wish Dan great success with this series of books!

  10. Reblogged this on No Facilities and commented:
I know several of you have already visited Willow’s wonderful post, but it’s not often that I get invited to a tea party to talk about my books. Willow asked some interesting questions, made me a proper cup of tea and fed me some delightful sandwiches, cakes and scones. Hop over to her lovely garden and check out this interview.

  11. I’m particularly intrigued by your discussion of the “odd” kids that were isolated. That was so true also in my childhood in the 50s. I too counted some of them as friends, but we moved so often, I never kept up with them. It would be interesting to know how they transitioned into adulthood. (K)

      1. Some, I think most, did come out well, perhaps even a bit stronger for the experience. I’m sorry to have been a bit of a downer on my first response. I guess those were the kids I was focused on.

    1. Unfortunately, two of my friends didn’t make it out of high school. One committed suicide and one turned to drugs and died of an overdose. It’s one of the reasons I have wanted to write this (book, I never thought it would be a series) where one of these kids comes out on top.

      1. Perhaps it will give some isolated kids hope so they can hang on…it’s hard to see at the time, but high school is not life.

  12. Our Dan is a multi-talented man! This was a really enjoyable interview. Dan supports so many authors, it’s nice to see the favor being returned. And isn’t it nice to see someone’s dream come true! Dan is now, amongst so many other accomplishments, a published author. Woohoo!
    Ginger

    1. I saw what you did there,”to see someone’s dream come true” you’re right Dan is a very supportive man and multi-talented too. Thank you for dropping by 💜

    2. Thanks so much for your ongoing support, Ginger. Sometimes, I think your comments are better than my blog posts. This has been a dream come true for me, and the support from Willow and others makes me feel blessed.

      1. If you Google you’ll get the full definition of Geographic Information Systems. Maps with data for short. Google Maps uses it as do many other agencies. My GIS work was environmental.

    1. Thanks Sherry. I love it when people bounce back and move forward. It seems you started working with GIS at a very good time. I worked with it a little bit in the last few years before I retired. I found it fascinating, albeit, working for an insurance company made it kind of boring.

      1. Nice to know you did a little GIS too. We used ESRI products. I also did illustrations for the reports. They eventually fired me for someone younger.

      2. That stinks. I used ESRI, but only scratching the surface. Gathering different layers to show types of potential damage.

  13. Great to see Dan here, Willow. How fascinating that The Evil You Choose was the first book and Knuckleheads came as an afterthought. I really enjoyed that book. And that is very cool that Dan had lucid dreams as a teen. I wake up the instant I realize I’m dreaming, so I’m envious. A super fun interview. Thanks to you both for the fun. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for reading the interview it was really fun to do. Dan was a great guest. I totally agree with you about both these books being brilliant. I am looking forward to book number three.💜💜

      1. I used to record my dreams (for a counseling class). It was so weird to read them in the morning. I felt like I was living a secret life at night. But otherwise, I’d never have remembered them. Dreams are fascinating.

    1. Thanks John. Willow was a wonderful host. I had a proper cup of tea, some delicious sandwiches and cakes, and she asked some interesting questions.

  14. Wonderful interview, Willow. I loved the first book, and I’m looking forward to the second one which beckons from my kindle. Congratulations, Dan. This was a fun post to read. 😊

    1. Hi Gwen, Dan was the perfect guest and I enjoyed both books immensely can’t wait for number three. Thank you so my for dropping in 💜💜💜

      1. No, but we’re planning a visit to my preschool classroom. You know Dan and his tools. He’ll be Dan the Tool Man. He sent me a copy of the book he and his daughter loved when she was growing up. Reading aloud to children is the most important thing I do at school. The book is wonderful, and I’m reading it to my children’s library group. Best to you, Willow.

      2. That is lovely to know. You are right reading to children and learning together is so important. Wishing you all the best too 💜💜
