#TANKATUESDAY Weekly #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 282, 7/26/22, #THEMEPROMPT

WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!

Here we are for another #TankaTuesday poetry challenge! Bought to us by Colleen Chesebro, this week it’s a Theme prompt selected this week by Harmony

This month’s theme is: “The Longest Day”

I chose to write a Diatelle but with a cheat.

The Diatelle is a fun, syllable counting form like the etheree with a twist. The syllable structure of the diatelle is as follows: 1/2/3/4/6/8/10/12/10/8/6/4/3/2/1, but unlike an ethere, has a set rhyme pattern of abbcbccaccbcbba. This poetry form may be written on any subject matter and looks best center aligned in a diamond shape.

The Diatelle form was created by Bradley Vrooman.

My cheat was I wrote in the alloted syllables per line but I wrote free verse… Sometimes rules need bending.

The longest day.

She
Rises
Too early
For me flashing
Throwing her glory round
Like a cloak of many colours
Gold, red and pink she blinds me with her light
Her warmth already fierce yet she will run the course.
By noon she has all but the mad beaten.
As afternoon spreads out she bakes us .
Languid we hide in shade
Evening she
Wains, colours
And heat
Fade.

The timeline of a sunny day. Well done, even if it brings back memories of baking in 99 degree heat.

Oh, very good, Willow. I like that used the imagery of the sun baking us! It’s truly becoming a problem all around the world. Climate change is indeed, very real. ☀️

What a lovely metaphor! I like the love-hate relationship with “she.” 😊
