Jim Adams

It’s Sunday and time for Jim Adams to give us this week’s prompt for Song Lyric Sunday. This week we are to pick songs from the Movies that were also chart hits.

There are so many to choose from so I decided to go for my favourite genre fantasy and sifi.

first up

The Hunger Games is a 2012 American dystopian action film directed by Gary Ross and based on Suzanne Collins‘s 2008 novel of the same name. With her district’s male tribute, Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson), Katniss travels to the Capitol to train and compete in the hunger games.

And another one bites the dust
Oh, why can I not conquer love?
And I might have thought that we were one
Wanted to fight this war without weaponsAnd I wanted it, I wanted it bad
But there were so many red flags
Now another one bites the dust
Yeah, let’s be clear I’ll trust no oneYou did not break me
I’m still fighting for peaceI’ve got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I’m like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won’t see me fall apart
Cos I’ve got an elastic heartI’ve got an elastic heart
Yeah, I’ve got an elastic heartAnd I will stay up through the night
Let’s be clear won’t close my eyes
And I know that I can survive
I’ll walk through fire to save my lifeAnd I want it, I want my life so bad
I’m doing everything I can
Then another one bites the dust
It’s hard to lose a chosen oneYou did not break me
I’m still fighting for peaceI’ve got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I’m like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won’t see me fall apart
Cos I’ve got an elastic heartI’ve got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I’m like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won’t see me fall apart
Cos I’ve got an elastic heartI’ve got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I’m like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won’t see me fall apart
Cos I’ve got an elastic heartI’ve got an elastic heart.Source: MusixmatchSongwriters: Sia Furler / Thomas Wesley Pentz / Abel Tesfaye / Andrew Swanson

Secondly

The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven fantasy novels by British author C. S. Lewis. Illustrated by Pauline Baynes and originally published between 1950 and 1956, The Chronicles of Narnia has been adapted for radio, television, the stage, film and computer games. The series is set in the fictional realm of Narnia, a fantasy world of magic, mythical beasts and talking animals. It narrates the adventures of various children who play central roles in the unfolding history of the Narnian world. Except in The Horse and His Boy, the protagonists are all children from the real world who are magically transported to Narnia, where they are sometimes called upon by the lion Aslan to protect Narnia from evil. The books span the entire history of Narnia, from its creation in The Magician’s Nephew to its eventual destruction in The Last Battle.

The music of the Chronicles of Narnia film series was recorded and released in conjunction with the post-production and releases of each of the three corresponding films. Harry Gregson-Williams, composer of the first two films and creator of main theme of series.

Gregson-Williams co-wrote a song with Imogen Heap, “Can’t Take It In”, which Heap recorded for the soundtrack. Originally, Dido submitted a song for the soundtrack, but it was considered unsatisfactory. Imogen was approached after a suggestion from the soundtrack’s supervisor, who managed a band with whom she had toured. The song was written, recorded, produced and mixed in a week; Heap said she needed “like a year more than I got” and considered the experience of handing in the song an hour after completing it “pretty scary”. According to her, the creation of the song was difficult because The Chronicles of Narnia is a family film, so she “had to be quite descriptive and not too electronic” when making the song.

Can’t close my eyes
They’re wide awake
Every hair on my body
Has got a thing for this place
Oh, empty my heart
I’ve got to make room
For this feelingIt’s so much bigger than meIt couldn’t be any more beautiful
I can’t take it inWeightless in love, unraveling
For all that’s to come
And all that’s ever been
We’re back to the board
With every shade under the sun
Let’s make it a good oneIt couldn’t be any more beautiful
It couldn’t be any more beautiful
I can’t take it in
I can’t take it in
I can’t take it in
WhoaIt couldn’t be any more beautiful
It couldn’t be any more beautiful
I can’t take it in
More that I wonder
More that I wonderSource: MusixmatchSongwriters: Heap Imogen Jennifer

And last but not least.

Twilight is a 2008 American romantic fantasy film based on Stephenie Meyer‘s 2005 novel of the same name. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the film stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. It is the first film in The Twilight Saga film series. This film focuses on the development of the relationship between Bella Swan (a teenage girl) and Edward Cullen (a vampire), and the subsequent efforts of Edward and his family to keep Bella safe from a coven of evil vampires.

A Thousand Years” is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Christina Perri, and written by Perri and David Hodges, for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. The song was released as a digital download on October 18, 2011, worldwide, and serves as the second single for the movie. Perri re-recorded the song with vocals from Steve Kazee for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

The day we met,
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew that I’d found a home for my heart
Beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I’m afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone?
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehowOne step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand moreTime stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What’s standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to thisOne step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand moreAnd all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand moreI’ll love you for a thousand more
OhhOne step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand moreAnd all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand moreSource: LyricFindSongwriters: Christina Perri / David Hodges

I watched the first The Hunger Games film and also the first Chronicles of Narnia and I thought that they were both good. I didn’t remember the Sia song or the Imogen Heap one, but they are both very good. I never watched any of the Twilight films, but I do like this song. Thanks for adding your music again Willow.
