Nonsense Lyrics!

Jim Adams

Our host the very lyrical Jim Adams again hosts Song Lyric Sunday. This week December 12, 2021 songs with Nonsense lyrics suggested by Amy Braun, ai love music aisasami.

Two songs this week Adiemus by Karl Jenkins and Mic Check from Imogen Heap.

.

Adiemus” is a world music song written by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins and performed by Miriam Stockley with Mary Carewe. It was recorded by the Adiemus project and officially released on the 1995 Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary album.

“Adiemus” was written in 1994 by Karl Jenkins and premiered in a 1994 Delta Air Lines television advertisement. The song was also used in some Delta in-flight videos. Jenkins chose singer Miriam Stockley as a lead vocalist due to her wide range of intonation and Purley resident Mary Carewe for additional vocals. The London Philharmonic Orchestra also performed.

The main idea was to create a modern song using classical forms, such as rondo and ternary. The lyrics themselves have no meaning. The vocals are simply used as another instrument to make music and not to convey any message. The song, written in D minor, is a mix of African-tribal and Celtic-style melodies.

The song was also used as a soundtrack within the Italian TV programme Ciao Darwin and as the opening titles music on the Biblical series Testament: The Bible in Animation.

The song is also often misattributed to Enya, primarily due to a television advertisement for Pure Moods featuring both Karl Jenkins’ “Adiemus” and Enya’s “Orinoco Flow“.

Headlock” is a song by British singer-songwriter Imogen Heap, from her 2005 album Speak for Yourself. It was the third single from Speak for Yourself, following “Hide and Seek” and “Goodnight and Go“. Remixed for radio as ‘Immi’s Radio mix’ and accompanied by a new all-vocal B-side, entitled “Mic Check”.

Small old world. We’ve been good friends with Mary for many years and went to Mary’s wedding in October to her long term partner (Miriam was there too). They aren’t in Purley anymore as it happens. Meant to be staying with them this weekend but all the new covidy nonsense has put that on hold. She does have an extraordinary voice, doesn’t she!
