Jim Adams

Bonus track, Tropical Heatwave Bing Crosby and Danny Kay.

Song Lyric Sunday October 24 time for Jim Adams prompt. This week it Atoll, Island, Key, Lagoon, Peninsula, Reef, Tropical suggested by Tales from the mind of Kristian. Well I got all the words this week!

First up a really long rap…but a fun video plus it has island and peninsula in the lyric…bonus!

International Players Anthem (I Choose You)” is a song by American hip hop duo UGK, released on June 6, 2007, as the second single from their fifth studio album Underground Kingz (2007). The song, produced by DJ Paul and Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia, features verses from fellow Southern hip hop duo Outkast.

The song’s beat was originally produced for Project Pat, who used it on the track “Choose U” from his 2002 album Layin’ Da Smack Down. The instrumental contains a sample of “I Choose You” by Willie Hutch. The song hit number 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it their first and only song to reach the chart.[1] The song’s official remix, featuring verses from Three 6 Mafia, is a bonus track on the album.

The song’s official music video, directed by Bryan Barber, premiered on MTV Jams on June 4, 2007. The video is centered on the fictional wedding of Outkast member Andre 3000, progressing through the men’s waiting room before the ceremony, the wedding itself, the reception, and the afterparty dance. Before the wedding ceremony, UGK member Bun B and friends ridicule Andre 3000 for supposedly rushing into getting married, and poke fun at him for wearing a red kilt (“I’ve got Scottish in my family,” Andre calmly states).

DJ Paul humorously says that it makes him look like Roddy Piper of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Andre defends his decision to get married, saying that he is ready to take the next step in life, and in turn berates his friends for not looking to get into commitments themselves. During the wedding, Andre talks about text messaging past flings and telling them that he has found love and will be giving up his life as a player. The audience remains seated as the bride, played by actress Salina Soto (CSI:NYForbidden), marches to the altar, a boy plays with an oversize toy spaceship, and one of Andre’s past flings makes a side remark to him (the verse that is being rapped), to the dismay of her date, Fonzworth Bentley.

A choir and its director sing the “I Choose You” vocals as the wedding progresses, while the groomsmen and other friends implore Andre to “keep your heart, 3 stacks!”. Later at the afterparty, two of Andre’s past flings get into an argument while attempting to catch the bride’s bouquet, which escalates into a full-blown fist fight that destroys the wedding cake and much of the buffet.

The male onlookers are pleasantly shocked, the bride is almost reduced to tears, but the rest of the main characters (including the bride) all smile at the end, apparently having a good time. The video features cameo appearances by Bishop Don “Magic” JuanThree 6 MafiaChamillionaireT-PainFonzworth BentleyDavid BannerKardinal OffishallNicole Ari ParkerBig Gipp, comedian DeRay Davis, and comedian Alex Thomas, along with actor Lukas Haas. This became the last video appearance of UGK member Pimp C, before his death on December 4, 2007.

So I typed a text to a girl I used to see
Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be
And I apologize if this message gets you down
Then I CC’d every girl that I’d see see round town and
I hate to see y’all frown but I’d rather see her smiling
Wetness all around me, true, but I’m no island
Peninsula maybe, makes no sense I know, crazy

Give up all this pussycats thats in my lap no lookin back
Spaceships dont come equipped with rearview mirrors
They dip as quick as they can
The atmosphere is now ripped
Im so like a Pip, Im glad its night
So the light from the sun would not burn me on my bum
When I shoot the moon high, jump the broom
Like a premie out the womb
My partner yellin “Too soon! Dont do it! Reconsider!
Read some litera – ture on the subject
You sure? Fuck it
You know we got your back like chiroprac – tic
If that bitch do you dirty
We’ll wipe her ass out as in detergent
Now hurry hurry, go on to the altar
I know you aint a pimp but pimp remember what I taught ya
Keep your heart 3 stacks, keep your heart
Aye, keep your heart 3 stacks, keep your heart
Man, these girls is smart, 3 stacks, these girls is smart
Play your partMy bitch a choosin’ lover, never fuck without a rubber
Never in the sheets, like it on top of the cover
Money on the dresser, drive a compressor
Top notch hoe’s get the most, not the lesser
Trash like to fuck with $40 in the club
Fuckin’ up the game, bitch it gets no love
She be cross country, givin’ all that she got
A thousand a pop, I’m pullin’ Bentleys off the lot
I smashed up the gray one, bought me a red
Every time we hit the parkin’ lot we turn head
Some hoe’s wanna choose but them bitches too scary
Your bitch chose me, you ain’t a pimp, you a fairyOh, I choose you, girlBaby you been rollin’ solo, time to get down with the team
The grass is greener on that other side, if know what I mean
I show you shit you never seen, the seven wonders of the world
And I can make you the eighth if you wanna be my girl
When I say my girl, I don’t mean my woman, that ain’t my style
Need a real street stalker to walk a green mile
We pilin’ up the paper on the dinin’ room table
‘Cuz you able to realize I’m the truth and not a fable
We rock the freshest sable, keep that ‘chilla on the rack
What I look like with some thousand dollar shit up on my back
I’m a million dollar mack that need a billion dollar bitch
Put my pimpin’ in your life, watch ya daddy get rich
Easy as A, B, C, simple as 1, 2, 3
Get down with UGK, Pimp C, B U N B
‘Cuz what’s a hoe with no pimp? And what’s a pimp with no hoe’s?
Don’t be a lame, you know the game and how it goes
We tryin’ to get choseOh, I choose you girlEeny meeny decisions with precision I pick or
Make my selection on who I choose to be wit’ girl
Don’t touch my projection, I know you want it to slip
But slippin’ is somethin’ I don’t do, tippin’ for life
That’s like makin’ it rain every month on schedule
Let me tell you, get your parasol umbrella
‘Cuz it’s gonna get wetter, better prepare you for the c-support
She supposed to spend in on that baby but we see she don’tAsk, ask Paul McCartney, the lawyers couldn’t stop me
Slaughter, slaughter them pockets had to tie her to a rock and
Send her in to outer space, I know he wish he could
‘Cuz he payin’ 20K a day, that bitch is eatin’ good
Like an infant on a double D titty, just gettin’ plump
‘Cuz you miscalculated the next to the, the last pump
Dump, dump in the gut, raw from the giddy up
Better choose the right one or pick, pick the kiddies upOh, I choose you, girl
I choose you, babySource: Musixmatch.

Andrew Wegman Bird (born July 11, 1973) is an American indie rock multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Since 1996, he has released 16 studio albums, as well as several live albums and EPs, spanning various genres including swing musicindie rock, and folk music. He is primarily known for his unique style of violin playing, accompanied by loop and effect pedals, whistling, and voice. In the 1990s, he sang and played violin in several jazz ensembles, including Squirrel Nut Zippers and Kevin O’Donnell’s Quality Six. He went on to start his own swing ensemble, Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, which released three albums between 1998 and 2001. Weather Systems (2003) was his first solo album, and a departure from jazz music into indie music. Bird’s 2019 album My Finest Work Yet was nominated for “Best Folk Album” at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

“Archipelago” was first released for Songs that Swing Left in September 2018. I think it’s really a beautiful song.

What if one day we just refused to play?
With no one to hate, they’d be out of a job
You’ve gone off script, you just can’t walk away
Leave us naked, fleeced and racked with sobsWhoa
We’re locked in a death grip and it’s taking its toll
When our enemies are what make us whole
Listen to me
No more excuses, no more apathy
This ain’t no archipelago, no remote atollAll my enemies, they just fall in love with me
Keeping us distracted while the till gets robbed
All our cries were cried
Now there are no sides
Try selling that one to an angry mobWhoa
J. Edgar Hoover wore a white mink stole
His enemies are what made him whole
Oh, what made him whole
(His enemies are what made him whole)
A three-headed monster swallows Tokyo
Her enemies are what make her whole
(Her enemies are what make her whole)
(Our enemies are what make us whole)
We’re locked in a death grip and it’s taking its toll
When our enemies are what make us whole
(Our enemies are what make us whole)
(Our enemies are what make us whole)
No more excuses, no more apathy
This ain’t no archipelago, no remote atoll
(Our enemies are what make us whole)

Still Corners are a British/American dream pop band formed in 2007 consisting of songwriter/producer Greg Hughes and vocalist Tessa Murray. Black Lagoon by Still Corners, released 17 August 2018. I love this song.

“Black Lagoon”

Turning back into the tide
Watching the beach from the other side
We swim with the moon
To an island in the black lagoon

Dreaming as the hours fade away
Watching as the sunlight does the same
Everything we are is on the line
Let’s pretend it’s not us tonight

Can’t get away
Can’t get away
Can’t get away
Can’t get away

Running back into the tide
Sapphire eyes up the southern night
We swim with the moon
To an island in the black lagoon

Can’t get away
Can’t get away
Can’t get away
Can’t get away

An island in the black lagoon
To an island in the black lagoon
To an island in the black, black
To an island in the black, black

Can’t get away..

AtoZ lyrics.

I can find no real info on Ian McGinnis but I really like this rap and the lyrics. The words make us stop and think.

Straws under the sea
Take it from me
The Straws are better
Down where it’s wetter
Take it from me
Down under the sea where straws get eaten
Disappearing coral is caused by heatin’
Getting hard to breathe under the sea
But stop tryin’ to take those straws from me
Coral reefs are calm like a manatee
Too bad they live in estuaries
Coral reefs need that Vitamin D
Explains the many coral reefs there are in Hawaii
For keeping them around, give thanks to algae
To swim in a coral reef, you better be a VIP
We don’t know where the coral reefs go
They all gone from Australia to Puerto Rico
The reef numbers are at an all time low
Just like a current I got that turbulent flow
Fish, fish, fish
Music come from Heaven like an Angelfish
Music be fire like a Firefish
Haters on my music like Clownfish
I’m the alpha like a Lionfish
Treat you real nice like a Cuttlefish
Move real fast like a Dartfish
I’ma be a state symbol like a Cardinalfish
Coral reefs are made of polyps
Not that many left so we call it a dollop
25 percent of ocean life
Coral being cut up with a knife
So many different types of coral
People destroying it, that’s immoral
Made up of calcium and limestone
But they can not be homegrown
We don’t know where the coral reefs go
They all gone from Australia to Puerto Rico
The reef numbers are at an all time low
Just like a current I got that turbulent flow
Getting hard to breathe under the sea
But stop tryin’ to take those straws from me
Coral reefs are calm like a manatee
Too bad they live in estuaries
Coral reefs need that Vitamin D
Explains the many coral reefs there are in Hawaii
For keeping them around, give thanks to algae
To swim in a coral reef, you better be a VIP
Save the straws, save the straws, save the plastic
Just like surface tension it’s elastic
Saving the coral reefs will take something drastic
Take it back to the times when it was classic
You don’t want to drink out of no paper
Liquid dissolves that straw like water vapor
We going all the way to the top like a skyscraper
Coral reefs are delicate like tissue paper
We don’t know where the coral reefs go
They all gone from Australia to Puerto Rico
The reef numbers are at an all time low
Just like a current I got that turbulent flowSource: LyricFind.

There are a lot of lyrics in that rap song. I agree with you Willow, Archipelago is first really a beautiful song. I liked the Still Corners song, especially Tessa Murray’s singing. Ian McGinnis is a different type of rapper and he is pleasant on the ears. I think your James Thomas Slater song was my favorite one today. I am always amazed how you can find so many songs.
