There is only one song for Carnival …and that is the Carnival is over by the Seekers . I really love this song it has so many lovely memories attached.

“The Carnival Is Over” is a Russian folk song from circa 1883, adapted with English-language lyrics, written by Tom Springfield, for the Australian folk pop group the Seekers in 1965. The song became the Seekers’ signature recording, and the band have customarily closed their concerts with it ever since its success in late-1965.

At its 1965 sales peak, the Seekers’ single was selling 93,000 copies per day in the UK and is No. 30 in the chart of the biggest-selling singles of all time in the United Kingdom, with sales of at least 1.41 million copies in the UK alone.^[3] The single spent three weeks at No.1 in the UK Singles Chart in November and December 1965.^[4]

The song also topped the Australian charts (for six weeks, from 4 December 1965),^[5] and reached No.1 in the Irish Charts for two weeks.

There is only one song to pick for Festival and that is Woodstock.

“Woodstock” is a popular song written by Joni Mitchell. Three versions of the song were released in the same year, 1970. The cover by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young appeared on their March 1970 album Déjà Vu, prior to Mitchell’s own version on her April 1970 album Ladies of the Canyon. The CSNY version has become a staple of classic rock radio and is the best-known version in the United States. Mitchell’s version was the B-side to her single “Big Yellow Taxi“. The third version, by the British band Matthews Southern Comfort became the best known version in the United Kingdom, and was the highest charting version of the song, reaching the top of the UK singles chart.

As the name implies, the lyrics refer to the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival of 1969, telling the story of a concert-goer on a trek to attend the festival. Mitchell, who was unable to actually perform at the festival herself due to scheduling conflicts, was inspired to write the song based on an account of the festival relayed to her by then-boyfriend Graham Nash, who had performed there. The anthemic song, as well as the festival it commemorates, is symbolic of the counterculture of the 1960s.

Now we all all know and love the Bee Gees , though maybe some of us don’t but I do. This Song Party with no name , is not one of their well known songs and I am not over keen on it but it fits the bill and the video has some lovely photos of them.

The track is from their album High Civilization which is the nineteenth studio album by British pop group the Bee Gees, released on 25 March 1991 in the U.K., and 14 May 1991 in the U.S. It was their last album recorded for Warner Bros. Records, after a four-year contract (they would return to WB through subsidiary Reprise Records in 2006: after gaining the rights to their previously released material, they reissued each album through Reprise). Possibly in reaction to firm resistance from U.S. radio to the previous two albums, E.S.P. (1987) and One (1989), which had done well in other countries, the U.S.-based Warner Bros gave this one less promotion and did not issue remixes. Well you know me I love Bollywood I just can’t resist the joy. Yes joy even in a political thriller! Ko (transl. ’King’) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language political action thriller film directed by K. V. Anand, and written by Anand and the duo Suresh and Balakrishnan. The film stars Jiiva, Ajmal Ameer, Piaa Bajpai and Karthika, in lead roles, while Prakash Raj and Kota Srinivasa Rao appear in supporting roles. The film follows Ashwin (Jiiva), a photojournalist working for Dina Anjal, who covers the TamilNadu State Election.

The fabulous soundtrack for the film is by Harris Jayaraj (born 8 January 1975) Who is an Indian film composer from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is best known for his melodies and is nicknamed, “The Melody King”. He composes soundtracks predominantly for Tamil films, while also having composed for a few films in Telugu and two films in Hindi.

“Jumbie Jamberee” is a calypso song credited to Conrad Eugene Mauge, Jr. In 1953 Lord Intruder released the song as the B-side to “Disaster With Police”.The song is also known as “Zombie Jamboree” and “Back to Back”. The introduction to the Kingston Trio‘s version humorously credits “Lord Invader and his Twelve Penetrators” with authorship of the song instead of Lord Intruder.

The oldest versions of the song refer to a jumbee jamboree. Jumbies are evil spirits who were thought to cause wild dancing in their victims. The song’s references to Carnival also suggest a connection to the Moko jumbie, a protecting spirit figure represented during Carnival on Trinidad by stilt walkers and dancers. The switch to “Zombie Jamboree” occurred very early with King Flash’s version with those lyrics coming out in 1956, only three years after “Jumbie Jamboree” first appeared.

Like many “folk” songs, there is unclear copyright in the song and many lines are variable between versions. While many versions set the song in a New York, Long Island or Woodlawn Cemetery, some place it in Kingston or an island cemetery. The third verse is the most variable with The Charmer’s version discussing the local food at a previous jumbie carnival parade while Rockapella’s version discusses zombies and King Kong invading various New York City landmarks. The third verse of King Flash’s 1956 version further discusses the female zombie’s romantic pursuit of the singer. More info at Wiki
