Song Lyric Sunday. Luck, Fate,Fortune.

Jim Adams

It’s Sunday again and time for Jim Adams to give us our prompt for Song Lyric Sunday.

Our prompt this week is. August 8, 2021 – Fate, Fortune, Luck. My first choice was was so easy, It has to be I should be so Lucky by Kylie Minogue. I was in love with her and Jason Donovan. Also I was number one fan of Neighbours! Yes I know I was married with children.. but I was young.

I Should Be So Lucky” is a 1987 song performed by Australian recording artist and songwriter Kylie Minogue from her debut studio album Kylie (1988). Released on 29 December 1987 by Mushroom Records and PWL Records, the song became a worldwide breakthrough hit; its image of Minogue on the front cover was shot by David Levine. The song was written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman for Minogue, and they went on to produce Minogue’s first four studio albums.

****

Soldier of Fortune” is a blues rock ballad written by Ritchie Blackmore and David Coverdale and originally released on Deep Purple‘s 1974 album Stormbringer. Though Deep Purple has never released the song as a single and it has never placed on the record charts, it has developed a cult following over the years, and cover versions have been released by WhitesnakeOpeth, and Black Majesty, and has been covered in concert by Blackmore’s Night.

****

Twist of Fate” is a song recorded by English-born Australian singer Olivia Newton-John for the soundtrack to the 1983 film Two of a Kind. It was written by Peter Beckett and Steve Kipner, and produced by David Foster. It reached number four in Australia and Canada, while peaking at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 in January 1984, becoming Newton-John’s last top 10 hit there to date. Billboard ranked it as number 42 on its listing of the top 100 singles of 1984.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE πŸ’œ.

Oh, such wonderful choices. Thanks for taking me back to that time with the first and the last song. I have to admit that the second one was new to me.

I’ve always been a rather opportunistic Deep Purple listener, focusing on what I hear on the radio or at parties (Hush, Space Truckin, etc). This shows me a whole different side of the band – a more musical and thoughtful side. Good choice.

The Kylie Minogue song is very upbeat and I can see why you like it so much. A new Deep Purple song for me and it is very nice Willow. The ONJ video said it was unavailable, but I found it on YouTube,
