Happy Mother’s Day.

Well it’s Mother’s Day here in the UK. The second year we have not been able to celebrate it as we normally would. So whether you have a mum or she is no longer with you ,whether you have children or not Happy Mother’s Day if you are celebrating.šŸ’œ

I have picked three songs for mums and children. First up is Like a River by Carly Simon.

Carly wrote the song for her mother Andrea Simon, written just after her passing in 1994.

The song speaks of her mother’s spirit always being there for her and the family. It just how I feel about my mum. She saw all my boys but none of my grandchildren …she died years before they were born. She watches over them as she does over the whole extended family.

Like A River

Dear mother the struggle is over nowAnd your house is up for sale
We divided your railway watches
Between the four of us
I fought over the pearls
With the other girls
But it was all a metaphor
For what was wrong with us
As the room is emptying out
Your face so young comes into view
And on the back porch is a well-worn step
And a pool of light you can walk into

I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you, forever
Like a river…

Can you clear up the mystery of the Sphinx?
Do you know any more about God?
Are you dancing with Benjamin Franklin
On the face of the moon?
Have you reconciled with Dad?
Does the rain still make you sad?
Last night I swear I could feel you
Moving through my room
And I thought you touched my feet
I so wanted it to be true
In my theater there is a stage
And a footlight you can step into…

I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you, forever
Like a river…

In the river I know I will find the key
And your voice will rise like the spray
In the moment of knowing
The tide will wash away my doubt
ā€˜Cause you’re already home
Making it nice for when I come home
Like the way I find my bed turned down
Coming in from a late night out.
Please keep reminding me
Of what in my soul I know is true

Come in my boat, there’s a seat beside me
And two or three stars we can gaze into…

I’ll wait no more for you like a daughter,
That part of our life together is over
But I will wait for you forever
Like a river…

I’ll never leave, always just a dream away
A star that’s always watching
Never turn away
We’ll never leave, always just a thought away
A candle always burning
Never turn away
The moon will hide, the tree will bend
I’m right beside you
I’ll never turn away.

My good friend Geoff Lepard wrote a wonderful book about his mum, Apprentice to my Mother I reviewed it here.

Here is an Acrostic Poem

MOTHER LOVE.

Mother love is selfless and deeper than the

Ocean, boundless and undemanding  always

There when you need it. No judgement or side taken

However far or expensive to pocket or heart.

Everlasting  and without question.

Ready always to love unquestionably.

Loyal and true always at the end of a phone

Open minded never judging or

Vengeful unless called to be on your behalf

Everlasting it’s there, Mother Love.

Song Lyric Sunday. It’s Hell.

It’s Sunday and time for Jim Adams to challenge us to find more music to share on Song Lyric Sunday. This week our prompt words are Misery, Anguish and Torment.

First up with Misery is Narroon 5. I did think of the Beatles but I do prefer this song. šŸ¦‹

Misery” is a song by American bandĀ Maroon 5. It was released on June 22, 2010 byĀ A&M Octone Records, as the first single from their third studio albumĀ Hands All OverĀ (2010). Written byĀ Adam Levine,Ā Jesse Carmichael, andĀ Sam Farrar, the song is about the narrator finding himself in a difficult situation when a relationship fades.Ā “Why won’t you answer me? / The silence is slowly killing me / Girl you really got me bad,” he states in the lyrics. The song documents the decay of a relationship, familiar territory for the band. Frontman, Levine toldĀ MTV News: “‘Misery’ is about the desperation of wanting someone really badly in your life but having it be very difficult. Kind of what all the songs I write are about. I’m not treading on new ground, but I think a lot of people – including myself – deal with that all the time. Relationships are difficult, and it’s good therapy to write about them.”

Now we can up the agony with Anguish by the amazing Ann Wilson .

Ann Dustin WilsonĀ (born June 19, 1950) is an American musician best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the rock bandĀ Heart.

Wilson has been a member of Heart since the early 1970s; her younger sister,Ā Nancy Wilson, is also a member of the band. The first hard rock band fronted by women, Heart released numerous albums throughout the late 1970s and 1980s; the albumsĀ Dreamboat AnnieĀ (1975), andĀ Little QueenĀ (1977) generated chart singles such as “Magic Man”, “Crazy on You”, and “Barracuda” Heart has sold over 35 million records worldwide and has placed top 10 albums on theĀ BillboardĀ 200Ā in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990 and 2010s.

Wilson was ranked no. 78 inĀ Hit Parader’sĀ 2006 list of “Greatest Heavy Metal Vocalists of All Time”.Ā In 2013, she was inducted into theĀ Rock and Roll Hall of FameĀ as a member of Heart.

Sorry I can’t find the lyrics.

Finally Torment is in the last verse.

Herman’s HermitsĀ are an EnglishĀ beat rockĀ andĀ popĀ group formed in 1964 inĀ Manchester, originally called Herman and His Hermits and featuring lead singerĀ Peter Noone. Produced byĀ Mickie Most, they charted with number ones in the UK and in America, where they ranked as one of the most successful acts in theĀ Beatles-ledĀ British Invasion. They also appeared in four films, two of them vehicles for the band.

I loved this group and went to see their films nothing of which can I remember anything šŸ˜œā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø.

Jezebel” is a 1951Ā popularĀ song written by American songwriterĀ Wayne Shanklin. It was recorded byĀ Frankie LaineĀ with theĀ Norman LuboffĀ Choir andĀ Mitch MillerĀ and his orchestra on April 4, 1951 and released byĀ Columbia RecordsĀ as catalog number 39367. The record reached #2 on theĀ BillboardĀ chart and was a million seller. The B-side, “Rose, Rose, I Love You“, was a hit too and reached #3.The title refers to the biblical womanĀ Jezebel, a wicked, Baal-worshipping Phoenician princess who ruled Israel as queen to King Ahab. Jezebel’s story is recounted in I Kings, a book of theĀ Old Testament.

“Jezebel”
(originally by Frankie Laine)

If ever a devil was born
Without a pair of horns
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a pair of eyes
Promised paradise
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a devil’s plan
Was made to torment man
Decieving me
Grieving me
Leaving me blue
Jezebel, it was you!

If ever a devil was born
Without a pair of horns
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a pair of eyes
Promised paradise
It was you, Jezebel, it was you!
If ever a devil’s plan
Was made to torment man
Decieving me
Grieving me
Leaving me blue
Jezebel, it was you!

Even had I never known
A lover such as you
Forsaking dreams and goals
For the silent scorn
Of your charms, Jezebel!

If ever a devil’s plan
Was made to torment man
Decieving me
Drieving me
Leaving me blue
Jezebel, it was you!

Night and day
Every way
Oh Jezebel!
Jezebel

Jezebel!

Happy Sunday Everyone šŸ¦‹šŸ’œ
