#JusJoJan prompt the 19th – “City”

City of London my childhood home,

Quiet in the early morn

Your business stilled in these strange days

The city sleeps before the dawn.

Empty streets and deserted alleyways.

River Thames cleaner calmer.

Though city streets still full of drama.

So within the city mile.

Few around but still full of style.

London City by night.

Fewer people but full of light.

I cannot visit my city as I have moved away.

Now in lockdown I cannot stray.

Back to the happy days and nights

When we revelled in the city lights.

London city sadly stricken

So hard the pandemic has bitten.

Hospitals full to overflow

As the illness and panic grow.

Let’s all hope for better days

When we can return to city ways.

I hope I can visit London one day. Many of my family have been there but I haven’t, yet.
