Cold the winter, bare the trees
The berries are all long gone
Harsh the wind , the water set to freeze
Still, hush all around not even a bird’s song.
Expectant they wait, as they always do
For the flap of wings that brings the news
Frost in the morning and the evening too
Tempers fray and sort is the fuse.
Finally his wings are heard approaching
Excitement grows for the news he brings
He has seen the change encroaching
The dark has reached it’s length, he sings
The messenger, the lone black Raven
Tells them they have reached the Soltice
Rejoice and make your praise to heaven
The Light will now return, we can prepare the feast.

I just looked outside to see the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. It happens every 20 years or so, but this year they come unusually close, not that they are in danger of hitting each other. Even though I have binoculars, I still have not been able to see the moons of Jupiter which I think should be visible if conditions are right. Anyway it is something else to watch on this winter’s solstice.

We need to see it now as by the next time the are close we will all be cosmic dust 💜💜

I think we go on forever, but I don’t expect to see that conjunction again. Not that it matters. However, one day I would like to have enough magnification or clear, dark skies to see the moons of Jupiter clearly. Together with Saturn so close that would be impressive.
