Colleen’s 2020 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 184, #SpecificForm

WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!

Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Challenge.

It’s the fifth Tuesday of the month! This is our chance to work with a specific syllabic poetry form. Take this opportunity to learn more about the particular form.

This week’s form is:

Haibun

As an added bit to the challenge… please use Frank J. Tassone’s photo as the inspiration for your Haibun. Frank says this spot is called Getrude’s Nose, a Rocky promenade located in Minnewaska Preserve State Park, in the Shawangunk Mountains outside New Paltz, New York (about a 2 hour drive out of NYC). Please include the copyright to the photo in your post.

I decided to take on Colleen’s challenge and write about part of my recent time in hospital.

The Table.

I lie on my side, voices above my head are panicked. Another voice arrives, a quick discussion ensues. Angiogram is mentioned, I am moved. It’s all panic and pain. My head searches for escape, trees, rock, warmth and peace. The voices decide what they are doing. A voice barks orders at me, the pain increases…..

Help me fly, Gaia.

Well written! I don’t know what a haibun is. (Okay, I looked it up, so now I do.) That must have been a scary experience!

Oh, how scary! Is Gia someone you know, or is that another way to say Gaia? What do I know? I need to do what Priscilla Bettis and lookup haibun. Oh, I didn’t realize that the more descriptive part was preamble to the haiku. Learn something new every day! Form aside, that was a terrifying time for you. Glad you made it through, blessed be those hands guided in the healing. ❤

Oops it is Gaia , a spelling mistake, thank you for pointing that out. It was awful they only used a local anaesthetic to put the drain in and the radiologist got it wrong, sent one of her colleagues to get help. Boss man arrived and spent ages talking about what to do. At one point I said to the boss man, “did you say you can fix this” He said yes I can” so I said ” then stop taking and do it! ” I don’t think he liked that. He said I had to have an angiogram to see the problem… That was a nightmare too. Anyway he did fix it, the first radiologist had missed completely and gone through a nerve or ligerment.. anyway he took it out and fitted another..honest I was in so much pain. Yuk!! 💜💜💜

Oh, you poor thing! I’m glad it is over and in the healing. You describe it so well, I can nearly feel it. Goodness! Oh, I wasn’t trying to correct on the Gaia. I have a niece named Gia so I thought maybe it was a nurse/doctor or maybe there was another way to say Gaia. Hugs, my friend.

Love the way the haiku pulls this together even though the circumstances sound a little scary. Nice writing!
