Well Jim Adams has given us another excellent prompt for Song Lyric Sunday this week. : This week we have the somewhat different prompt of finding a song that includes a number and hopefully this will work out for us. Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, as you will.
So I decided not to go with all my favourites, like Five For Fighting, 100yrs, or Christina Perri 1000years, or Zager and Evans in the year 2525. No not even 99 Red Balloons by Nena
I am going with one I have done before a favourite from James Blunt and one from from Queen. First 39 written and lead sang by Brian May. I have always loved this song so much, don’t know why but I just do. It was recorded in 1975 the year my second son was born.
“‘39” is a song by British rock band Queen. Composed by lead guitarist Brian May, it is the fifth track on their fourth studio album A Night at the Opera. The song was also the B-side to “You’re My Best Friend“. The song relates the tale of a group of space explorers who embark on what is, from their perspective, a year-long voyage. Upon their return, however, they realise that a hundred years have passed, because of the time dilation effect in Einstein‘s special theory of relativity, and the loved ones they left behind are now all dead or aged. more information here.
“1973”
Simona
You’re getting older
Your journey’s been
Etched on your skin
Simona
Wish I had known that
What seemed so strong
Has been and gone
I would call you up every Saturday night
And we’d both stay out ’til the morning light
And we sang, “Here we go again”
And though time goes by
I will always be
In a club with you
In 1973
Singing “Here we go again”
Simona
Wish I was sober
So I could see clearly now
The rain has gone
Simona
I guess it’s over
My memory plays our tune
The same old song
I would call you up every Saturday night
And we’d both stay out ’til the morning light
And we sang “Here we go again”
And though time goes by
I will always be in a club with you in 1973
Singing “Here we go again”
I would call you up every Saturday night
And we’d both stay out ’til the morning light
And we sang “Here we go again”
And though time goes by
I will always be in a club with you in 1973

Always loved this one too, I was living in Devon in 1973 when this song was set. Just had our first son.

I was laughing at James’ BBC Breakfast interview when he claims the reason he has been asked to start Hospital Radio is an incentive for people to get better so that they can escape listening to him.
He is a lovely boy! Some very good friends of mine have known him for years and are hugely fond of him.

James gets a really bad press but he seems absolutely lovely I have liked him from the first time I saw him . He is an all round good guy. I love his latest Album, a song about his dad and his latest single the Greatest. About the way things are now. https://youtu.be/0ggg_iCrE6I

Every time I see his interviews he seems a bit self-deprecating. But he really does seem to have a heart of gold.

Yes he is very clever like that, he had a very hard time on Twitter but he always managed to politely out insult the trolls and win the argument.😜

I instantly recognized this song. What a wonderful ballad. May was a physicist so no surprise he wrote a song about relativity 🙂 Great choice, Willow.
