Song Lyric Sunday. Self isolation party.

It’s time again for Jim Adams to host Song Lyric Sunday this week our prompt is

Alone/Confined/Depressed/Isolated/Restless/Solo

Alone, well it’s got to be alone again by Gilbert O’Sullivan.

Gilbert O’Sullivan (born Raymond Edward O’Sullivan; 1 December 1946) is an Irish singer songwriter, best known for his early 1970s hits “Alone Again (Naturally)“, “Clair“, and “Get Down“.

Worldwide he has charted 16 top-40 records, including six No. 1 songs, the first of which was 1970’s “Nothing Rhymed“. Across his career, he has recorded 19 studio albums, up to his UK top 20 self-titled record in 2018. Speaking in 2009 he said, “I write pop songs. That’s all I want to do. I have no interest in just touring, and living in the past.” The music magazine Record Mirror voted him the top UK male singer of 1972.[3] He has received three Ivor Novello Awards, including “Songwriter of the Year” in 1973. Warren William Zevon (/ˈziːvɒn/; January 24, 1947 – September 7, 2003)was an American rock singer-songwriter and musician.

Zevon’s most famous compositions include “Werewolves of London“, “Lawyers, Guns and Money“, and “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner“, all of which are featured on his third album, Excitable Boy (1978), whose title track is also well-known. He also wrote major hits that were recorded by other artists, including “Poor Poor Pitiful Me“, “Accidentally Like a Martyr”, “Mohammed’s Radio“, “Carmelita“, and “Hasten Down the Wind“. Along with his own work, he recorded or performed occasional covers, including Allen Toussaint‘s “A Certain Girl”, Bob Dylan‘s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door“, Leonard Cohen‘s “First We Take Manhattan“, Steve Winwood‘s “Back in the High Life Again“, and Prince‘s “Raspberry Beret“.

Zevon’s early music industry successes were found as a session musician, jingle composer, songwriter, touring musician, musical coordinator & bandleader. Despite all this, Zevon struggled to break through in his solo career, until his music was performed by Linda Ronstadt, beginning in 1976 with her album Hasten Down the Wind. This launched a cult following that lasted for 25 years, with Zevon making occasional returns to album and single charts until his death from cancer in 2003. He briefly found a new audience in the 1980s by teaming up with members of R.E.M. in the blues rock outfit Hindu Love Gods.

Known for his dry wit and acerbic lyrics, he was a guest numerous times on Late Night with David Letterman and the Late Show with David Letterman.

“Splendid Isolation”

I want to live alone in the desert
I want to be like Georgia O’Keefe
I want to live on the Upper East Side
And never go down in the street

Splendid Isolation
I don’t need no one
Splendid Isolation

Michael Jackson in Disneyland
Don’t have to share it with nobody else
Lock the gates, Goofy, take my hand
And lead me through the World of Self

Splendid Isolation
I don’t need no one
Splendid Isolation

Don’t want to wake up with no one beside me
Don’t want to take up with nobody new
Don’t want nobody coming by without calling first
Don’t want nothing to do with you

I’m putting tinfoil up on the windows
Lying down in the dark to dream
I don’t want to see their faces
I don’t want to hear them scream

Splendid Isolationa
I don’t need no one
Splendid Isolation

Splendid Isolation
I don’t need no one
Splendid Isolation

Lyrics from AtoZ lyrics

Mother’s little helper by the Rolling Stones says it all about depression! I also think this particularly relevant to the situation with , young mum’s, middle age mum’s and older mum’s being in caught in 24/7 proximity with their children. Having to entertain, school and look after them. Not so bad if you have a big house and garden, and internet and TVs and a partner, that can be bad enough but in a tiny flat with no garden it must be so hard.

Mother’s Little Helper” is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. It first appeared as the opening track to the United Kingdom version of their 1966 album Aftermath. It was released as a single in the United States and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1966. The song deals with the sudden popularity of prescribed calming drugs among housewives, and the potential hazards of overdose or addiction. The drug in question is variously assumed to be meprobamate (Miltown) or diazepam (Valium).

“Mother’s Little Helper”

What a drag it is getting old

“Kids are different today”
I hear ev’ry mother say
Mother needs something today to calm her down
And though she’s not really ill
There’s a little yellow pill
She goes running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper
And it helps her on her way
Gets her through her busy day

“Things are different today”
I hear ev’ry mother say
Cooking fresh food for a husband’s just a drag
So she buys an instant cake
And she burns a frozen steak
And goes running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper
And two help her on her way
Get her through her busy day

Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

“Men just aren’t the same today”
I hear ev’ry mother say
They just don’t appreciate that you get tired
They’re so hard to satisfy
You could tranquilize your mind
So go running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper
And for help you through the night
Help to minimize your plight

Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

“Life’s just much too hard today”
I hear ev’ry mother say
The pursuit of happiness just seems a bore
And if you take more of those
You will get an overdose
No more running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper
They just helped you on your way
Through your busy dying day

Hey!
