This is my entry for Kat Myrman of Like Murcury Colliding’s Twittering Tales.

More Trouble for Heaven

“What, d’you mean he’s removed all photos from earth.” God was in no mood for riddles. Gabriel had that pained look that Michael and St Peter had grown to fear.
Satan, knee deep in photos giggling happily. “All I asked Azriel to do was to put me in the picture.”Gabriel screamed.

The Red, the White and the Purple

I do not want to upset anyone but as we draw near to Rememberance Day I just wanted to share my feelings on the poppies we wear.

There are more than one, these days, the red to remember the dead, the white for peace. To remember the conscientious objector. During WW1 and WW2 many thought these men were cowards. I do feel they were brave enough to stand up for their beliefs. Many were tried and shot for not taking up arms. Many spent the war as medics and stretcher bearers unarmed or in the mines.

What ever you think, the wars killed them irrespective of their principles. I respect the Red and the White.

The Red and the White.

Why

Argue

Both were brave

Each had their own

Principles to up

Hold. Neither less than bold.

One would carry a weapon

The other a stretcher, no gun

Both men died for their own held beliefs

They were both lost and that loss brought much grief.

———

Then there is the Purple Poppy in remembrance of all the animals who died in service during conflicts.

They pulled the gun carriages until they dropped

They carried messages and they got shot.

They search out the unexploded mines

They save lives a thousand times.

Spare a thought for the horse, pigeon, donkey dog and many more

Remember them, they all help us in times of war.

Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge NO. 109, Happy November – “Poets Choice of Words”

It’s the first Tuesday this month and as per Colleen Chesebro of The Fairy Whisperer’s rules I am choosing Red and White to use Synonymously.

Rules for Colleen’s Tuesday Tanka Challenge

Oh! Crimson as blood

Mixed with pure as driven snow

Late Autumn, still grow

The birds will eat the berries

How long will the roses last.

Starting small…

A lesson for us all in love and strength.

Sue Vincent's Daily Echo

“…grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change…”

Alert and tense, ready for any stumble, I watched him cross the living room, slowly, painstakingly, supported by the walking frame. He does it every day, and so do I. Being so accustomed to the situation we simply accept the ‘what is’.  The ‘what was’ and ‘what should have beens’ do not register… they have no place in the moment. Over the past nine years we have learned to accept and deal with the demands of ever-present reality.

For a moment, I marvelled at the adaptability of the human spirit, that can accept the changes wrought by the most extreme events and learn to encompass an altered reality and the consequences it brings in its wake.

And yet, today was different. Perhaps the news that his attacker has just been sent to prison again that had dredged up old…
